Hello! My name is Meredith, and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and Mental Health Services Provider with 12 years of experience working in this field. I believe in a collaborative approach to therapy that rejects rigid, one-size-fits-all treatment plans and completely bypasses cold clinical checklists. Instead, I view us as co-collaborators working side-by-side through the circumstances that led you to the courageous decision to seek therapy. While I take my job incredibly seriously, I also believe there is a time and place for laughter and lightheartedness, just as there is a time to allow ourselves to weep. We are all souls having a unique, human experience. It is profoundly important to me that we show up as authentically ourselves as we can be as we walk this road together.

Hi! I'm Laurie, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker specializing in perinatal/postpartum mental health, and adult ADHD. I love helping clients better understand themselves and their symptoms through psychoeducation, strengths-based work, and practical, solution-focused approaches. Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is at the heart of my work, with a little DBT and CBT mixed in. I also have experience with general depression, anxiety, trauma, substance use, bipolar disorder, OCD, and disordered eating. The therapy space is sacred, and I will always prioritize your comfort, safety, and autonomy, while also offering a gentle nudge or challenge when it may be helpful. Your session time is yours and I deeply believe that clients are the experts on their own lives. My role is to collaborate with you and offer new perspectives, insight, and practical tools that help you build a life that feels healthier and more aligned with who you are. Outside of therapy, you'll usually find me spending time outside with my kids, reading a good psychological thriller, or soaking up whatever rest time I can get. Hi, I’m Samantha. I’m a compassionate, trauma-informed social worker with a background in working with adolescents and families, including experience in residential treatment settings supporting teenage girls and boys who have experienced trauma, difficult life circumstances, and significant emotional and behavioral challenges. My work has taught me the importance of meeting people where they are, looking beyond behaviors, and understanding the experiences that may be underneath them. I believe therapy should feel like a safe place where you can show up exactly as you are—without judgment or pressure to have everything figured out. My approach is warm, genuine, and collaborative. I use approaches such as EMDR, DBT, and psychodynamic therapy to help clients process difficult experiences, understand patterns, develop healthier coping skills, and build a stronger sense of self. Most importantly, I want my clients to know they don’t have to navigate everything alone. My goal is to walk alongside you, provide a space where you feel truly heard and understood, and help you recognize your own strengths while working toward the life you want.

I believe in the person-centered approach. I meet you where you are. I work across the life span, with my youngest patient being age 3 and my oldest patient being in their 80s. Each person is different and comes from a different experience, so I work from a holistic approach. Whether it's depression, anxiety, ADHD, Autism, OCD, trauma or some other issue, no one experiences symptoms the exact same way. Therefore, their treatment should not be a cookie cutter approach. Over my 15 years experience, I have been able to meet many people along the way through working in the school system, to inpatient facilities and outpatient services. I look foward to meeting you and working together to meet your needs.

So, who am I; and what am I doing here, eh? Also, do you struggle to talk about yourself ? - 'cause I sure do. Anyways, let's see... Personnally, I identify as a neurodiverse, cis-female, middle-aged (yes, over 40yo), divorced, single mother of two human loves and one canine love who enjoys spending time outdoors, flow arts, music, and dancing and singing and laughing. Also, learning is my favorite - like, I'm a full-on brain geek, for realz. Professionally, I hold licensure through the State of Tennessee Department of Health as a Professional Counselor and Mental Health Service Provider since March 2025 which allows me to independently provide Clinical Mental Health Counseling services - including assessment, evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of Mental and Behavioral Health issues, conditions, disorders, and illnesses. Proper and thorough clinical assessment, ethical practice, trauma-informed engagement and care, destigmatization, and advocacy are consistent characteristics of my approach toward Client care. As a therapist, I believe in building therapeutic relationships founded on honesty, transparency, respect, patience, alliance, and safety. My style of counseling is raw, uncut, and straight-forward while remaining sensitive, respectful, and culturally aware in offering constructive, caring, well-informed and growth-oriented feedback, guidance, and support. Ultimately, we're in this together. Experience: 15 years in the Restaurant/Bar Service Industry (technically not clinical experience; howerever, theoretically... iykyk :)) 5 years in Runaway and Homeless Youth (RHY) programming serving homeless and at-risk adolescents and young adults toward prevention and intervention of human trafficking 6 years in clinical treatment of Co-Occurring Mental Health Disorders and Substance Use Disorders (yes, I have history) serving Adults from an Integrated Therapy approach primarily through Intensive Outpatient Programs providing group and individual therapy The door to your best self is open; all you have to do is walk through it. I have dedicated more than 30 years of my life to the helping profession of Social Work. I have worked tirelessly to advocate for the poor, elderly, disabled and those struggling with substance use and mental health challenges. I prefer to be in the present, listen to the client and partner with them to come up with a plan to meet their unique set of challenges and opportunities, not just just meet short term goals but make therapy a way to teach long term ways of coping that aid in meeting challenges in the future and not dependent on the therapist but through inner strengths that are fostered in therapy as ways to build up self-esteem, cultural pride and self worth.

I became a therapist simply because I’ve always wanted to help people. I've seen firsthand the incredible power of connection and how transformative it can be to have a non-judgmental, unbiased person who truly listens to you in therapy. That kind of support creates a space for growth and healing, and it’s something I’m passionate about offering to others. Being able to witness someone’s journey as they feel heard and understood is one of the most rewarding parts of this work. Growing up, I struggled with feeling like I belonged and often felt inadequate. Those experiences made me realize how important it is to have a safe space where you can be heard. I’m truly honored to be by someone’s side as they take strides toward becoming the best version of themselves and improving their lives. Everyone deserves that kind of support, and I’m grateful to offer it. Hi, I’m Kaja Switalska, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker specializing in helping adults, with particular focus on college-aged individuals, manage anxiety, depression, substance abuse, and adjustment issues. I aim to provide a welcoming, judgment-free space where you can feel heard. I often use humor to keep things light while also addressing real challenges. In our first sessions, we’ll get to know your unique needs and develop attainable goals. My approach blends CBT, mindfulness, solution-focused strategies, and motivational interviewing.

I was raised in Memphis, TN and attended college in Nashville, TN where I received a BS degree. I got married while in college. We moved to Raleigh, NC after graduation. We've been married over 40 years. We have eight adopted children. I began working for the USPS once we moved to NC. After working there for 10 years, I realized that I wanted to change careers and fulfill the dream of helping others in a more practical way. I took a break from work and obtained a MA in Counseling. After receiving my LPC license, I worked in various settings within the counseling field. I have worked in Child Protective Services, worked for a couple of mental health clinics, held a private practice, worked in crisis intervention for 10 years in a hospital setting, returned to the clinic setting, and have once again opened a private practice. Hello and welcome. It means a lot that you’ve taken this step. Every person carries such a unique story shaped by resilience and strength. Sometimes, those stories can feel heavy or overwhelming, and we may find ourselves needing a space to breathe and process. My hope is to create a safe and supportive environment where you feel heard and empowered to heal. In our work together, I take a compassionate and collaborative approach that meets you where you are, supporting you in working through current challenges while building toward the future that is possible. I typically practice in the Solution-Focused umbrella, incorporating Narrative Therapy into my work. Solution-Focused Therapy helps you identify your strengths and move toward your goals; while Narrative Therapy encourages exploring one’s personal story from the past, separating the individual from their problems, and envisioning how you want your story to continue. My experience consists of helping clients with family conflicts, trauma and abuse, parenting issues, mood disorders, anxiety, and depression. I have taught parenting classes for many years, which allowed me to help parents strengthen their relationships with their children and build more confident, nurturing connections. These experiences have deepened my understanding of the challenges families and individuals face, and reinforced my commitment to supporting each person’s unique journey toward healing and growth. I have over 20 years of experience in the mental health field, with 13 of those years dedicated to being a therapist. I am licensed to provide therapy to individuals across the state of Tennessee. It’s truly an honor to support people as they reconnect with themselves, rediscover hope, and move toward healing. Supporting others through life’s challenges is deeply fulfilling work, and I am grateful for the opportunity to be present with you on your journey.

A Big Hello to you. You are scanning all these profiles. Looking for something to stand out to make you say,"I will go with this one." It is daunting but you have made it this far. Here is the tip. Your choice is not terminal. It is absolutely ok to try multiple therapists to see who gets you the best. Who understands you the best. After each session, you should feel lighter. You may not recall all that was said, but you will note how you feel. Did you feel heard? Understood? Did the therapist talk to me like they were reading a book or did it sound like they really got me? When you get the right one, those questions will be answered with a firm, Yes. ---->Part of individual therapy is talking about friends, partners and loved ones. My training and focus are centered only on heterosexual relationship dynamics. If you are looking for letters for work, ESA, Social Security, FMLA, Family Court, you will need a psychological evaluation by a forensic psychologist. I am not able to perform assessments, letters for claims or provide appearances in court.

Whether you need to process a stressful event or need to vent I am here to support you. I strive to tailor your session to meet your needs. Some sessions may need to be more strictly focused with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, while other sessions are spent on learning a new coping skill such as mindfulness. Your session is about you and what may help you the most to resolve what issues you may have and to help you find your strength and empower you to keep moving forward. My aim is to make you, the client, feel comfortable in a judgement free zone. I want you to feel like you came to the right place, a warm inviting, calm, and empowering space where you can share what you feel you need to share.

Welcome! I’ve been working with individuals, couples and families pursuing counseling for more than over 19 years. My experience has centered around assisting adults who are experiencing depression, anxiety, difficulty adjusting and adapting to the changes they are experiencing in life, grief and trauma. The philosophical foundation of my therapy is based on the understanding that what we think influences how we feel which impacts how we behave. Therefore, to change any behavior or feeling we first need to address our thinking. My goal in the counseling process is to assist you in improving the quality of your life by guiding you in how to manage, resolve, and/or reconcile those issues in your life creating difficulty for you.

You appear calm and put together on the outside, internally you feel overwhelmed and exhausted. You've been doing everything you can to keep things together so no one notices how much you're struggling, but lately it feels harder to manage. You're doing your best to hold on, yet you worry that one more stressful situation could push you past your limit. You continue to smile, show up, and tell yourself you're okay, even when deep down you know you're not. Because you look “fine” to others, people may not realize how heavy things have become for you. You often minimize your own pain by comparing yourself to others, convincing yourself that you should just be grateful because “others have it worse.” As a result, prioritizing your emotional well-being can feel selfish or undeserved. If this describes you, and you are ready to stop overthinking, you are no longer willing to put your own needs on the backburner, you are ready to silence the inner critic, work on your personal and/or professional relationships, and you want to stop just going through the motions, we should talk. I have the credentials that every other therapist has earned, representing the commitment of a competent practitioner. However, its important to note that my caring coupled with my competence makes me who I am. I am a person of faith, wife (retired military veteran) mother, grandmother, and dog mom. I've navigated many seasons of life overcoming grief and loss, divorce, careers, the sandwich generation (caring for aging parents and small children), financial challenges, and blending a family. All the makings for stress, anxiety, and depression. During these and other dark seasons, it was the professional help holding my hand through the darkness until I could see the light again. Let's walk together to the light.

Hi im Greg Kirkham! Im a licensed therapist, practicing for over 21 years. I specialize in treating trauma. Now, you may be saying “but I don’t have trauma!” Trauma comes in all shapes and sizes and is often not recognized as such, but almost always has a significant impact on someone’s overall mental, physical and emotional health. Trauma also presents in many different forms, including struggles with depression, anxiety and anger management. Over my career I have worked with an array of populations, including children/families, juvenile sex offenders, and even convicts. Currently, I serve those who served us as a therapist with the VA in middle TN. Over the past ten years, I’ve seen evidence-based treatments work wonders with PTSD and trauma in our veterans. With GrowTherapy, I’m now able to provide these and other treatments to YOU! Whether you’re not real sure or highly motivated to get help, I’d love to discuss options and see if we’re a good fit! Hi. My name is Christine Toler, Chris, and I earned my Ed.S and LPC- MHSP in the state of Tennessee, New Jersey and Delaware. I have been licensed as a Professional Counselor since 2010, and a School Counselor since 2006. I started being a believer in therapy when it first helped me over forty years ago, (as a child). I thought what a wonderful way to get to the root of the problem... and get rid of it. Since then, I have been working on myself as a client as well as acquiring a licensure to help others, including teens, adults and families. I focus on solution based and non-judgmental cognitive therapy. I believe understanding a problem is not the end of the work. (unfortunately) The action we take to support a positive change... is what changes lives. And while I have experienced that in some very important areas... I continue to grow... daily. I choose to be transparent about that because I believe it is important to the work that my clients know I understand how it feels to be in their chair. If you are struggling with anxiety, depression, stress, doubt, guilt, grief, or all of the above, I believe I can help you.

I am someone who likes to make a difference. I love helping people, and love seeing the changes client's can make when they know the path through. My therapeutic approach is inspired by a profound message from one of my favorite therapists: “You may feel like you're in the desert right now, but I will walk beside you. I won't pull you or push you. When you're tired, we'll rest. When you're scared, I'll stand with you. When you're sad, I'll sit with you. Together, we will reach the other side.” These words continue to resonate deeply with me and shape my compassionate, supportive practice.

Hi. My name is Deborah Vaughn and I have dedicated my life to making your life better. I have laughed and I have loved. I have cried and I have lost. I have experienced anxiety and depression, poverty and wealth. I have had beauty and acceptance, age and neglect. I have given birth to four children, two that were incarcerated for crimes, and I have had them brought back to me renewed again in life. I've been sad and lonely and I have been on top of the mountain singing praises to the God of the Universe. Experiences, I've had too many to number, both good and bad, and I have learned from each and every one. Empathy I have for all, because I too have probably been there, or I could have been there easily enough. I have saved them all in my mind and heart so that I can help you through any of them you might need my help with. Sincerely, Deborah

I love partnering with people on their journey to greatness. I use a strengths-based approach to help my clients see the choices that are always at their disposal to unlearn past harmful messaging or combat unrelenting present symptoms. As a Black woman, I always integrate the importance of diversity. Playing small to blend in doesn't serve anyone. Whether we're different based on external or internal attributes, we all need to embrace our beautiful and different qualities so that we can live an authentic life. My work also focuses on boundaries, challenging thoughts, and improving communication skills. I integrate role plays, affirmations, accountability, and direct introspection exercises to aid clients in quieting the noise of societal norms to embrace their true joy. All sessions are client-focused, I don't come with my own agenda. I'm excited to help you live life with confidence on your own terms. I look forward to working with you.

I am a native Memphian who enjoys spending time with my husband and two daughters. My career as a counselor began in the school setting where I served as a middle school counselor. I earned the nickname of "adolescent whisperer" from making deep and meaningful connections with teens and their families. I wanted to extend my services beyond the school setting, thus I earned the mental health license that allows me to practice outside of the school setting as well. I counsel from the belief that we are all imperfect beings working to navigate life’s challenges. I love to motivate clients to become the best version of themselves while attentively acknowledging their current situation without judgment.

Frequently asked questions

When looking for online therapy, you can see anyone that is credentialed in Tennessee. We want you to find the best fit, therefore, Grow Therapy shows available therapists across Tennessee from Memphis to Knoxville! If you’d rather see someone in-person, you can change the filter from virtual and find a therapist near you in Tennessee.

When booking you’ll be asked to verify with your Member ID. However, if you don’t have any of the insurances available you can select cash. Our therapists will have their cost of appointment on their profile. Individual session costs will vary.

The specialty filter is optional. You don’t need to check any boxes to see a provider. However, fit is very important when selecting an online therapist. If you have knowledge or experience to recognize what specialties you may need.

Finding a provider with a similar life experience can be beneficial because it can be easier to establish rapport and potentially be understood quicker and clearer.

Your first therapy session is for you and your therapist to meet each other and to ask any questions that you have about the counseling process. This is where you can expect your therapist to do the same as they will ask questions to gain insight into your specific situation. In this first session the therapist is doing their part to gather as much information so they can better assess if they are able to meet your therapeutic needs. Depending upon your provider's specialty, you may also discuss the methods the therapist will use. For additional information on therapy methods, please visit the Grow Therapy Help Center. Some people feel nervous before their first appointment, and that is totally normal! Coming prepared with a list of questions for your therapist may help. Remember, you're taking a brave step by seeking therapy, and it is okay to be nervous as you try something new.
