Hello, I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. I am Licensed in the State of Tennessee. I have been practicing as a counselor for the past 4 years however I have been providing counseling services as a Military Chaplain for 20 years. I have seen individuals, couples, and families from all walks of life going through many difficult situations. I have walked with them through times of grief, anxiety, loss, separation, suicidal thoughts, legal issues, etc. I have seen how choosing the right therapist can help a person get through from the person's perspective can be one of the hard times of their life.
For our first session it will be getting to know each other and starting to build a level of trust so there can be an open and honest communication between us. We will talk about why you are seeking help and what your expectations are for therapy. I will ask questions about you and your family, culture, work, spirituality, etc. I believe all of this informs what a person thinks/believes about themselves. This will help me to both understand you as a person and help to inform my plan for our follow-up sessions.
I have spent the majority of my adult in the Military, almost 30 years at this time, interacting with people from all walks of life. As such I try to walk alongside each person and get to know them as an individual first and what their life challenges are as they see them. Each one of us have a unique path to walk through life and I have the honor of joining you on your journey and help in ways that you may have not seen before. I have seen in this time that the key to person's present problem most often resides in their past, which is why I spend a good amount of time getting to know them as a person and not as a problem.
Being a Marriage and Family Therapist I believe we were all created for connection. With that in mind, I have a genuine appreciation for helping couples achieve their goals in their relationship. In couples therapy, I have completed the Level 3 Practicum Training in Gottman Method Couples Therapy and I use the Gottman Method Couples Therapy in my therapy work.
I focus on counseling with couples for rebuilding trust, communication styles, love language style, as well as attachment approach. Teaching techniques to the couple to focus on the present and future while addressing past conflict in their relationships while integrating each individual's past into the present relationship.
I utilize EMDR in a majority of my individual sessions. I have been using it for over 4 years now. I am continuing to pursue training in this modality.
For individuals looking to overcome life's difficulties using a short-term goal oriented approach I utilize solution Focused Therapy. I have found it to be helpful for clients who are having difficulties seeing a way forward.
