Siyo (Hello in Cherokee)! My name is Tishina Carroll. I have been involved in the behavioral health field for over 15 years. A common question I get asked is “Why did you choose to become a therapist”? The answer is easy: I profoundly enjoy helping others to find ways to manage life’s challenges, while also supporting them in developing into the best versions of themselves. I too have struggled with mental health challenges, and I understand the stigma that comes with admitting that you need help. I want my clients to understand that they are not alone in their struggles. I am a licensed clinical social worker, a licensed clinical addictions specialist and a certified clinical supervisor. My areas of expertise include Anxiety Disorders, Bipolar Disorders, Depression, PTSD/ Trauma, Women’s Health, Grief/ Loss and Addiction. I am skilled in Dialectal Behavioral Therapy, Emotional Freedom Technique, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Motivational Interviewing. I am an enrolled member of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians and am familiar with traditional Native American Practices as well. I understand that meeting a therapist for the first time can be intimidating, scary and maybe even embarrassing. I completely understand! The first few sessions, I like to build rapport. I want to get to know you as a person while also giving you the same space to get to know me as a therapist. Building rapport can help develop that crucial sense of trust.

As an evidence-based relaxation and meditaiton trainer, I am uniquely qualified to help you learn to cope with grief, anxiety, past trauma, women's issues, and vicarious trauma experienced by veterans and first responders. My approach is eclectic, using interventions from a broad base of solidly-grounded, accepted theoretical orientations, including Cognitive Processing Therapy, an evidence-based, brief modality for resolving PTSD symptoms. I see clcients for anxiety, trauma, life transitions, and women's issues. Through sessions together, I will collaborate with you to assist you in recognizing your individual strengths and strive to empower you with the self-awareness and self-confidence to pursue your dreams. i also practice Internal Family Systems, a means of healing PTSD without having to revisit the event. this is evidence based and rooted in both Attachment Theory and Family Systems Therapy. I take a person-centered, creative, non-judgmental approach to creating a safe space for counseling sessions, allowing you to unburden yourself and share your goals, while helping you to see how your uniquely shaded lenses of experience have color your perceptions. I believe that each individual has both a unique set of gifts and a world view shaped by past experiences and present circumstances. About me I have 26 years of experience providing therapy as an NC-licensed clinical counselor. I am a NC native with a B.S. from Western Carolina and an M.S. from Webster University. I just received my doctorate from Liberty University—my dissertation research in psychology on trauma in breast cancer patients. My background includes PTSD, severe anxiety and depression, divorce, PTSD, bipolar disorder, eating disorders, self-esteem work, grief work, sleep disorders, and chronic medical illness. I am a therapist who can meet you where you are and give you immediate skills that you can try for symptom relief, starting your journey to a healthier you. I practice cognitive-behavior techniques and will set measurable goals in therapy, providing tips for healthy coping techniques. I also offer psychotherapy sessions. It would be an honor to assist you in your healing. "We only live today once," let me help you make your days better. My history: I grew up in Waynesville, NC so I am a mountain girl. For now, I live near Charlotte, NC with my husband and 16-year-old son. We share a 7-acre working horse farm with my retired showhorse, three rescue dogs, and a rescue cat. I am a two-time breast cancer survivor and struggled with PTSD, anxiety, and depression during my ten-year cancer struggles. Growing up the daughter of a hairdresser and Army veteran/welder, in a small town, I was involved in activities in school and showed horses for my Uncle, starting work at age 14. I worked two jobs and borrowed money to go to college so I know how life can be stressful and tiring. I have always been a helper and love lifting people up - that's why I do what I do. "We will never live this day again - so let's make it a great one." -unknown author

My name is Telisha Seagle and I graduated from Liberty university. I love working with people. I am not only a therapist, but I am also a pastor's wife. I strongly believe you should feel comfortable with the therapist you choose and should have a positive therapeutic relationship. I believe that each and every individual is capable of self-direction and growth. In counseling, I strive for a therapeutic relationship with each client that is facilitative to those ends. During sessions, I strive to maintain an environment containing unconditional positive regard, empathy, and genuineness. My therapeutic style is primarily based on an eclectic style, however, I am a Christian therapist but will never push my beliefs on to you. I graduated with a M.A. in professional counseling. We give meaning to our beliefs, which in turn influence our feelings and behaviors. Beliefs are formed from life experiences, both positive and negative. We often feel that our emotions are controlled by others. This, however, is not true. We possess the power to control our thoughts, change our feelings and ultimately modify destructive behaviors. EMDR-play The goals of my treatment are helping lower emotional turmoil, symptom reduction, and/or reframing the presenting problem. I will work in collaboration with your primary care provider or psychiatrist, if you are on medications. I will provide psycho-education to you regarding any mental health diagnosis you receive. I look forward to working with you.

Hi, I am a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Supervisor (LCMHCS) and Licensed Clinical Addictions Specialist (LCAS) in the state of North Carolina. I received a master's degree in counseling, along with a graduate certificate in substance abuse counseling, from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in 2010. While in graduate school, I decided to specialize in Motivational Interviewing (MI) when I discovered how well the “spirit of MI” (partnership, acceptance, compassion, and empowerment) fit with my perception of how we change and grow. Since then, I have had the opportunity to participate in several advanced MI training workshops facilitated by some of the originators of this powerful approach to facilitating change. By incorporating the components mentioned above into our counseling relationship, along with a wide variety of evidence-based approaches as needed, a collaboration is created where we work as a team to identify and build on your strengths, restructure any self-limiting beliefs, increase confidence, and progress towards the accomplishment of your goals. I started my private practice soon after graduation and have had the privilege of being part of the change process in countless lives over the past 14 years.

Hi, I'm Donavon. I am a counselor with almost 20 years of experience. Some words that folks have used to describe me are encouraging, supportive, compassionate, and understanding. One of the things I feel I am especially good at is helping people find the connections to the origins of their problems. Do I spend days or weeks having you relive the past? No. But, being able to understand how your problems or negative coping strategies of today developed, is an important step in doing things better in the present.

Additionally, if you have no sessions schedule within 30 days, you will also be referred for another therapist. If there are any questions please inform me of your concerns.

Howdy! My name is Russell and I look forward to meeting you and working together! Taking the step to seek out therapy services can be the biggest hurdle to overcome, yet here you are. You made it! Even exploring options for therapy demonstrates the motivation that you have for positive change in your life. I enjoy taking a collaborative approach to working with all of my clients because you are the expert in your own life and know yourself the best. I am here as a support while you discover more about yourself. I am a LCMHC (Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor) with the state of North Carolina. I have a background working with various ages and demographics in a variety of settings. This includes children aged 6+ to pre-teens, adolescents, adults, families, and couples. I have worked in inpatient hospital settings, assisted with Intensive In-Home services for at-risk youth and their families, as well as with clients in traditional office-based environments providing outpatient therapy. My clinical expertise and the most frequent concerns that I help clients with are anxiety, depression, ADHD, anger management, relationship issues, family issues, and phase of life concerns. I tend to naturally gravitate toward adolescents who are struggling with navigating their lives, however, I enjoy working with all individuals regardless of age or background since life is a struggle for all of us. I tend to take a laid-back, relaxed (but professional) stance when working with clients to make the therapeutic process as welcoming and comfortable as possible!

I believe people possess all the knowledge and skills to overcome their mental health challenges, but sometimes need an ally to uncover these strengths. I chose to work in the behavioral health field because I have benefited from a strong support system to help me overcome my own struggles in the past. In my practice, I incorporate motivational interviewing, acceptance and commitment therapy, and solution-focused brief therapy to help people uncover their strengths.

Frequently asked questions

Why filter by North Carolina rather than a city like Charlotte?

When looking for online therapy, you can see anyone that is credentialed in the state. We want you to find the best fit, therefore, Grow Therapy shows available therapists across North Carolina from Raleigh to Greensboro! If you’d rather see someone in-person, you can change the filter from virtual and find a therapist near you in North Carolina.

Will my therapist take EAP:Cigna?

Yes! If you use EAP:Cigna you’ll be asked to verify your Member ID at the time you book the appointment. However, if you don’t have EAP:Cigna you can select cash. Our therapists will have their cost of appointment on their profile. Individual session costs will vary.

How does the Specialty Filter work? Can I find a therapist that focuses on a specific issue?

The specialty filter is optional. You don’t need to check any boxes to see a provider. However, fit is very important when selecting an online therapist. If you have knowledge or experience to recognize what specialties you may need.

What are the "Clients say I'm" badges?

Grow Therapy asks patients about their experience with therapists after they have had a certain number of sessions. After enough responses, we add those characteristics to their profiles to help you find the best online therapists for you. We're still working on collecting this information from all our therapists.

Why use Gender, Age, and Identities filters?

Finding a provider with a similar life experience can be beneficial because it can be easier to establish rapport and potentially be understood quicker and clearer.

What to expect during your first session?

Your first therapy session is for you and your therapist to meet each other and to ask any questions that you have about the counseling process. This is where you can expect your therapist to do the same as they will ask questions to gain insight into your specific situation. In this first session the therapist is doing their part to gather as much information so they can better assess if they are able to meet your therapeutic needs.

Depending upon your provider's specialty, you may also discuss the methods the therapist will use. For additional information on therapy methods, please visit the Grow Therapy Help Center. Some people feel nervous before their first appointment, and that is totally normal! Coming prepared with a list of questions for your therapist may help. Remember, you're taking a brave step by seeking therapy, and it is okay to be nervous as you try something new.
