Hello, I am Michael A. Kirk, a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) dedicated to helping individuals navigate life's challenges with confidence and resilience. I believe that therapy should be safe, supportive, and a judgement free space where you feel heard, understood, and empowered to create real change. I work with adolescents and adult experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, Grieg/loss, relationship issues, life transitions and more. My approach is collaborative. I utilize several evidenced based therapies such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Reality Therapy, Motivational interviewing, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and Trauma Focused CBT.
Our first session will have one goal: getting to know each other therapeutically. While getting to know you I will gather background and historical information that I will utilize to determine what is bothering you most. Then I will then utilize that information to collaboratively determine which goals and interventions would best help you achieve the change you are looking for.
My approach stands out because I truly care, with over 20 plus years of experience in behavioral health care there is nothing that you can say or do that I haven't heard. I am 1000% nonjudgmental. All therapist say it but you are truly safe with me.
I'm best to serve clients that are motivated to change and more importantly ready to do the work required to change. Open minded, driven clients are ideal. Clients should also be prepared to be held accountable and be aware that therapy is not linear. It's not uncommon to take a step forward then two steps back so patience is a must. .
