I bring something to individual and couples therapy that is rare today and not from a text book, that is lived experience. In drawing from different evidence based schools of thought in combination with my lived experiences we will employ such modalities of therapy such as Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy. Adversity and struggle are situations that are common. The goal to avoid both would be ideal but that is not reality. Peace and calmness in the mist of adversity and struggle is a possible reality and what we will strive to help you achieve.

Hi, I'm Donavon. I am a counselor with almost 20 years of experience. Some words that folks have used to describe me are encouraging, supportive, compassionate, and understanding. One of the things I feel I am especially good at is helping people find the connections to the origins of their problems. Do I spend days or weeks having you relive the past? No. But, being able to understand how your problems or negative coping strategies of today developed, is an important step in doing things better in the present.

I provide individual and couples counseling to adults only. I utilize CBT techniques most often. But I also tailor my sessions to the individuals or couples that I work with so I often utilize many other treatment approaches. I do my best to provide a safe, unbiased, nonjudgmental environment for my clients so they may feel comfortable discussing their feelings and concerns openly with me. I work to aid and support issues related to depression, anxiety, grief, relationship conflict, premarital counseling, job stress, LGBTQIA+ community issues and many more.

Hi, I'm Teshia. Despite your best efforts, do you find yourself on the verge of divorce? Your marriage may be a disaster, but your divorce doesn't have to be! As a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with nearly 20 years of experience as a family law paralegal, I possess a unique set of skills that are invaluable to those who find themselves in the throes of divorce. In addition to providing support through one of the most difficult life transitions, understanding that the legal process of divorce has the potential to inhibit the healing process and completely devastate families, I provide my clients with a better way to divorce...a way that builds up instead of tears down...a way that refashions your family instead of leaving it shattered. Since every ending brings a new beginning, my goal as your therapist is to guide you through the uncertainty of divorce, help you regain your balance and help you lay the foundation for a HEALTHY new beginning. No matter where you are in the divorce process, whether working as your therapist or as your divorce coach, I am dedicated to helping you regroup, recover and grow. "GREAT IS THE ART OF BEGINNING, BUT GREATER IS THE ART OF ENDING." -Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and in case you’re unsure of what that is, it means I have earned a Bachelor Degree in Social Work a Master of Social Work and once I completed Graduate school I was then required to complete 3,000 hours of clinical work experience under supervision for another two years after those supervised clinical hours I had to successfully sit for ASWB Clinial Level exam. Being a Licensed Clinical Social Worker not only means that I am passionate about Mental Health, but I am also focused on your environment, meaning I look at external factors that impact your situation. When I started Graduate School, I went in with the notion of studying Psychology until I came across the Social Work Program, after doing some extensive research into the profession, I decided that is what I wanted to do. I learned I can help individuals with their Mental Health as well as take a holistic approach to address any barriers they may face while working towards their goals. I absolutely LOVE being a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and helping individuals reach goals they’ve set for themselves.

Call me Ben! I've been in private practice for 5 years and the mental health field at-large for close to a decade. I'm a big advocate for mindfulness (and ACT) and how it can be used alongside and incorporated into the therapeutic relationship to make tremendous strides in addressing one's mental health. I live in Asheville, North Carolina with my wife and our two cats. I love to go hiking and kayaking, am currently learning Spanish and the drums, and love a good gaming session with my friends. --------------------------------------------------------------*IMPORTANT UPDATE* If you were impacted in any way by hurricanes Helene, Milton, or other significant tropical storms - please let me know in your initial intake. I am currently offering a number of free/sliding scale sessions to those affected.

Frequently asked questions

Why filter by North Carolina rather than a city like Charlotte?

When looking for online therapy, you can see anyone that is credentialed in the state. We want you to find the best fit, therefore, Grow Therapy shows available therapists across North Carolina from Raleigh to Greensboro! If you’d rather see someone in-person, you can change the filter from virtual and find a therapist near you in North Carolina.

Will my therapist take OptumHealth Complex Medical Conditions?

Yes! If you use OptumHealth Complex Medical Conditions you’ll be asked to verify your Member ID at the time you book the appointment. However, if you don’t have OptumHealth Complex Medical Conditions you can select cash. Our therapists will have their cost of appointment on their profile. Individual session costs will vary.

How does the Specialty Filter work? Can I find a therapist that focuses on a specific issue?

The specialty filter is optional. You don’t need to check any boxes to see a provider. However, fit is very important when selecting an online therapist. If you have knowledge or experience to recognize what specialties you may need.

What are the "Clients say I'm" badges?

Grow Therapy asks patients about their experience with therapists after they have had a certain number of sessions. After enough responses, we add those characteristics to their profiles to help you find the best online therapists for you. We're still working on collecting this information from all our therapists.

Why use Gender, Age, and Identities filters?

Finding a provider with a similar life experience can be beneficial because it can be easier to establish rapport and potentially be understood quicker and clearer.

What to expect during your first session?

Your first therapy session is for you and your therapist to meet each other and to ask any questions that you have about the counseling process. This is where you can expect your therapist to do the same as they will ask questions to gain insight into your specific situation. In this first session the therapist is doing their part to gather as much information so they can better assess if they are able to meet your therapeutic needs.

Depending upon your provider's specialty, you may also discuss the methods the therapist will use. For additional information on therapy methods, please visit the Grow Therapy Help Center. Some people feel nervous before their first appointment, and that is totally normal! Coming prepared with a list of questions for your therapist may help. Remember, you're taking a brave step by seeking therapy, and it is okay to be nervous as you try something new.
