Hello! My name is Dr. Jennifer Jordan. I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) based in Florida. I received my PhD in Counseling Psychology from National University and Masters Degree in Counseling Psychology from California Baptist University. I have worked with individuals, couples and families seeking counseling for 20 years, both online and in a variety of settings. I help clients learn new skills to successfully navigate the challenges of life, deepen their understanding of themselves, enhance their relationships, and improve their mental health and emotional well-being.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

Collaboration, trust, and mutual respect between the therapist and client are essential to create an atmosphere where change can occur. The purpose of the first session is to help you and I get to know each and to help you decide if you think us working together will be a good fit for you. We will discuss what is bringing you into therapy at this time and what you are hoping to achieve in therapy. The first session will involve me asking several questions about your personal background, family history, and prior therapy experiences to better understand you and to best determine how to help you. I will also take time to answer your questions about the process of therapy and explain my treatment philosophy and approach. If continuing to work together makes sense, we may begin to discuss some specific goals for therapy and plan our next time to meet.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

My greatest strengths as a provider are being non-judgmental, accepting, and empathetic. In my years of working with individuals with substance use and other mental health issues, I have seen how experiences of judgment can lead to feelings of shame, resistance to change, and avoidance of help seeking. By being intentional about non-judgment, acceptance, and empathy, I ensure therapy is a genuinely safe and supportive place for clients. When clients feel comfortable to be open and can express themselves without fear, healing and growth become possible.

My treatment methods

Person-centered (Rogerian)

Person-centered therapy is the core of my training. As a therapist, I am drawn to Person-Centered Therapy because it aligns with my core values of empathy, warmth, and respect for my clients. I believe that this approach acknowledges the inherent worth and dignity of every individual, and recognizes that each person has their own unique experiences and perspectives. By creating a safe, non-judgmental space, I can help my clients feel heard, validated, and empowered to explore their thoughts and emotions at their own pace, ultimately fostering a deeper sense of self-awareness and personal growth.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I often use Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) with my clients because it's an evidence-based approach that has been proven to be effective in addressing a wide range of mental health concerns, from anxiety and depression to relationship issues and trauma. I appreciate how CBT focuses on helping clients identify and challenge negative thought patterns and behaviors, empowering them to develop more balanced and adaptive coping strategies. By working together, my clients and I can uncover the underlying assumptions and beliefs that drive their emotions and actions, and then work to reframe them in a more realistic and constructive way, leading to lasting positive changes in their lives.

Solution Focused Brief Treatment

I often use Solution-Focused Therapy in treatment to empower clients to identify and build upon their strengths and resources quickly. I appreciate how this approach focuses on finding solutions rather than dwelling on problems, which can lead to a sense of hope and momentum in the therapy process. By concentrating on what's working well and what the client wants to achieve, Solution-Focused Therapy is a treatment method that can support clients to shift their attention away from obstacles and toward a brighter, more fulfilling future.
