Hi there, my name is Jordan Abernathy-Cornelius. I am a Licensed Clinical Social worker (LCSW), fluent in English and Spanish, with a background of working with adolescents and families in the healthcare system helping patients navigate grief and complex medical decisions. I enjoy working with individuals from diverse and unique backgrounds highlighting a variety of issues such as: anxiety, stress, coping, past relationships, family dynamics, and many more. You are the expert in your own life, and I strive to provide a supportive and safe environment within our therapeutic relationships. I look forward to helping and guiding you in developing new confidence, behaviors, and skills as we work towards achieving your goals. *** Please note that I am only able to schedule appointments on the hour (i.e. 3:00), and cannot accommodate appointments on the half hour (i.e. 3:30). Thank you for your understanding. ***
What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?
After our first session, we will establish what your personal goals are as we continue building our therapeutic relationship. You will have a better understanding of who I am as a therapist and will be able to decide if I’m a good fit for you. Following the first session, we will establish a consistent weekly and flexible schedule to facilitate growth. In our sessions, we will reflect on the progress you have made as I continue to support you in your identified goals and needs.
What treatment methods and tools do you utilize?
I use an eclectic approach to therapy and include a variety of techniques such as Mindfulness, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Solution-Focused, Strength-Based, and Motivational Interviewing.
Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.
My biggest strengths are being actively engaging and listening empathetically. I strive to meet my clients where they are, emotionally and mentally, and communicate in a compassionate and culturally competent manner. My background of working in schools and healthcare systems has equipped me to collaborate with families and adolescents, in particular.
