Hi, I am Trisha Leamon, Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist. I have had an interest in human behavior for as long as I can remember. I enjoy helping my clients source their strengths and achieving effective ways to navigate life’s challenges. My professional experience has given me the opportunity to work with clients who are facing substance abuse, depression, anxiety, divorce, codependence, and grief. I especially enjoy working with clients who are navigating difficult transitions such as divorce, relationships, work, adding to their family, retirement, and the many other journeys of life. My personal experience of my sons passing in 2008 was a large part of my desire to work in the counseling field. Through my own journey, I recognized how difficult past experiences can often play large roles in how we navigate life. My goal with therapy is to offer my clients a caring, attuned therapist as we find new ways to solve problems, heal old wounds, and strengthen the way you live your life. I embrace client focused/strength based theories, CBT, and love the works of Brene Brown and Internal Family Systems.

I then started a dual master's program in Counseling Psychology and Marriage and Family Therapy in San Diego, California. I received my masters in 2015 and decided to take a step further and obtain my PhD in marriage and family therapy, with an emphasis on military families. I am currently a PhD candidate a Northcentral university where I am within the process of completing research on military relationships. My name is Nima Robert Zahedi. I was born in Oklahoma in 1969. I have never been married, and do not have any children. I attended elementary and junior high school in Texas. In 1984 I came to California, where I attended high school. In 1996 I received a bachelor’s degree in psychology from California State University Fullerton. In 2002 I received a master’s degree in social work from California State University Long Beach. I chose to pursue a master’s degree in social work, rather than psychology, because I was drawn to the social work philosophy, and still am. In 2007 I became licensed as a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) with the California Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS). In 2015, I returned to school full time in pursuit of a doctorate in clinical psychology (Psy.D.). In anticipation of my doctoral practicum, I accepted two part-time practicum positions; one at a forensic psychology practice in Orange County, and another at a general private practice in Los Angeles County. On August 25th, 2017, I successfully defended my doctoral project at California Southern University, which is an online school with WASC accreditation that was established in 1978- the campus is in Orange County California. I defended my doctoral project on campus, where I also attended Master Lecture Series by leaders within the field, and met with my academic adviser as well as with fellow students who were in the area. My personal interests revolve around athletics and arts. I grew up playing all of the major team sports as well as skateboarding and BMX. As an adult, I began pursuing surfing, jiu-jitsu, musical instruments/composition, and painting.

My belief as a therapist and as a person is that all people, no matter where they are in life, are equipped with the innate ability to experience mental health. I do not see people as “broken”, rather, at some point in life, all people will find themselves “stuck” for one reason or another. My focus is to create a safe environment to educate and support clients while assisting them in meeting and exceeding their stated life goals.

Let me start by saying self-care is the one thing that we can do for ourselves, but is usually the last thing we do for ourselves. So, congratulations for taking the first steps in caring for yourself. The journey of therapy is not easy. There will be times when it gets exhausting but as you continue through your path the answers will be revealed through the work you complete with your therapist. It is a privilege and honor to walk the journey. As a therapist, I have worked with a plethora of clients from couples counseling, to adolescent, trauma, grief, depression, anxiety, and mood disorders.

I have many years of experience contributing to the well being of others at a variety of mental health clinics and hospitals. I have training in a number of therapeutic modalities to support your needs and growth. I am experienced with the treatment of depression, anxiety disorders, including OCD, PTSD, and Panic Disorder, grief & loss issues, and mood disorders. My approach to therapy is that it is a collaborative effort. We work as team and you provide feedback on what you need and your goals in seeking therapy. I am trained to use a variety of therapy orientations such as cognitive behavioral therapy, exposure therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, mindfulness informed, dialectical behavior and eye movement desensitization reprocessing (EMDR). Drawing from years of experience I enjoy working with adolescents up to adults as a team in collaboration approach. I find that change best comes from or is created by the client. Wherever you are at we can start from there in your journey of recovery or growth. My communication style is friendly, warm, patient and open. Our goal is to get you to where you want to be. This will be a relationship based on trust and collaboration. Being a therapist is an extension of my values of kindness, compassion, helping others, and building up others. Since I was a child I’ve supported those around me when there was suffering. Everyone needs help from time to time and it is a blessing to help others.

Frequently asked questions

Why filter by California rather than a city like LA?

When looking for online therapy, you can see anyone that is credentialed in the state. We want you to find the best fit, therefore, Grow Therapy shows available therapists across California from San Francisco to San Diego! If you’d rather see someone in-person, you can change the filter from virtual and find a therapist near you in California.

Will my therapist take Partnership HealthPlan of California (Medi-Cal)?

Yes! If you use Partnership HealthPlan of California (Medi-Cal) you’ll be asked to verify your Member ID at the time you book the appointment. However, if you don’t have Partnership HealthPlan of California (Medi-Cal) you can select cash. Our therapists will have their cost of appointment on their profile. Individual session costs will vary.

How does the Specialty Filter work? Can I find a therapist that focuses on a specific issue?

The specialty filter is optional. You don’t need to check any boxes to see a provider. However, fit is very important when selecting an online therapist. If you have knowledge or experience to recognize what specialties you may need.

What are the "Clients say I'm" badges?

Grow Therapy asks patients about their experience with therapists after they have had a certain number of sessions. After enough responses, we add those characteristics to their profiles to help you find the best online therapists for you. We're still working on collecting this information from all our therapists.

Why use Gender, Age, and Identities filters?

Finding a provider with a similar life experience can be beneficial because it can be easier to establish rapport and potentially be understood quicker and clearer.

What to expect during your first session?

Your first therapy session is for you and your therapist to meet each other and to ask any questions that you have about the counseling process. This is where you can expect your therapist to do the same as they will ask questions to gain insight into your specific situation. In this first session the therapist is doing their part to gather as much information so they can better assess if they are able to meet your therapeutic needs.

Depending upon your provider's specialty, you may also discuss the methods the therapist will use. For additional information on therapy methods, please visit the Grow Therapy Help Center. Some people feel nervous before their first appointment, and that is totally normal! Coming prepared with a list of questions for your therapist may help. Remember, you're taking a brave step by seeking therapy, and it is okay to be nervous as you try something new.
