About me

Hello, I’m Ritika Kaur, a California-based Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (License #101199). In my psychotherapy practice, I provide a compassionate, client-centered environment where healing can begin. My path into the mental health field began with a simple goal to help people navigate hard times and find fulfillment. After earning my Master’s in Counseling Psychology from National University in 2011, I spent several years working in community mental health. This role gave me valuable experience in providing evidence-based care to a wide range of individuals. I became a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in California in 2017, and I remain dedicated to helping my clients build resilience and well-being. I support clients facing mild to moderate mental health challenges, including anxiety, stress, relationship issues, grief, family and parenting stress, and major life transitions. During our initial meeting, we will discuss your specific needs. If I determine that your situation requires support outside my area of expertise, I will provide you with referrals and recommendations to ensure you receive the care you need. While I am happy to support you in other ways, I do not provide disability documentation, medical leave paperwork, or ESA letters. If you require these specific forms or legal documentation, I recommend consulting with a provider who specializes in those assessments. For new clients: Please ensure all intake documents are completed prior to our session. Thank you for your cooperation in ensuring a smooth start to our work together.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

During our first session, we will discuss what brings you to therapy and collaborate to establish your personal goals. I will gather relevant background information and answer any questions you may have. Most importantly, we will begin building the trust and rapport essential for a productive therapeutic relationship.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

I bring a warm, deeply authentic, and collaborative presence to the therapy room. I show up as a real human being who offers deep validation and active, compassionate listening. I intentionally use pauses and quiet space in our sessions to allow your nervous system to slow down, process deep emotions, and breathe without rushing.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

While my practice is rooted in slow processing and relationship-building first, I have a rich toolkit that we can draw from over time. Rather than pushing rigid, homework-heavy quick fixes or rushing into clinical protocols, I slowly introduce supportive interventions—such as mindful grounding, connecting with your body's signals, nervous system regulation, integrative self-exploration, trauma-informed processing techniques, and situational solution-focused strategies. We will explore these methods collaboratively and at your own pace, letting you choose what feels right for your healing journey. You will likely thrive with me if: * You crave a therapeutic relationship built on genuine warmth, empathy, and emotional safety. * You seek a corrective emotional experience where you are truly seen and allowed to set the pace. * You value space, silence, and time to reflect in session without feeling pressured to constantly talk. We might NOT be the best fit if: * You prefer a highly clinical, detached therapist focused on worksheets and cognitive exercises. * You want to jump immediately into rigid clinical scripts or protocols on day one. * You feel highly anxious by moments of silence, clinical pauses, or slower conversational pacing. * Your nervous system requires a fast-paced structure where the therapist does most of the talking. A Note on Emergencies & Scheduling: I protect our sessions fiercely, but rare personal emergencies may force short-notice rescheduling. If your clinical needs require absolute scheduling with zero flexibility, or if sudden routine changes trigger severe distress, my practice format may not be the safest match for you at this time.

My treatment methods

Person-centered (Rogerian)

As a client-centered clinician, my approach is to meet you exactly where you are mentally and emotionally. I strive to build a strong therapeutic alliance by providing an empathetic, deeply non-judgmental environment where your nervous system can feel safe. I believe in empowering you to tap into your own innate resilience and inner strength at your own pace. My goal is to help you gain greater self-awareness, build healthier relationships, and discover organic tools to navigate life's challenges with confidence. I am dedicated to supporting you on your journey of deep personal growth, empowering you to create positive, lasting changes from the inside out.
