I am a down-to-earth and collaborative therapist who believes that the foundation of effective healing is a genuine, honest connection. I prioritize creating a transparent environment where you feel heard and respected, allowing us to work as true partners in your mental health journey. My approach is grounded in the belief that therapy is most effective when it is practical, straightforward, and focused on your unique reality. In our sessions, I value honesty and the identification of healthy, realistic goals. I specialize in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), where we work together to uncover the connection between your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. By identifying irrational thinking patterns and challenging negative self-talk, we can begin to reframe your narrative in a way that serves your growth rather than hindering it. I understand that starting therapy can feel like a significant step, which is why I focus on providing a non-judgmental space where we can tackle challenges at your pace. Whether you are dealing with anxiety, daily stress, or life transitions, my goal is to provide you with a functional toolkit of strategies you can use long after our sessions end. Together, we will move toward a more balanced, resilient, and fulfilling life.

I have extensive experience working with severe anxiety, depression, chronic illness, allergies and autoimmune conditions, developmental trauma, relationship and mood-related challenges. I also work with adults and professionals on issues such as self-confidence, decision-making, personal and career growth. Prior to becoming a therapist, I studied the human behavior while working with individuals experiencing eating disorders, autism, and Alzheimer’s disease. I also conducted research on how caregivers’ responses impact a child’s development. This has given me a deep understanding of how human behavior and psychology are shaped by culture, experience, neuroscience, and the brain.

Hi! I'm Dr. Chelsea Acker, a licensed clinical psychologist with expertise working with children and adolescents. I'm experienced with a range of concerns, but I have specialized training in treating trauma, suicidality, and early psychosis. In 2019, I graduated from the PAU-Stanford PsyD Consortium, where I trained at the Stanford School of Medicine's psychiatry department and Lucile Packard Children's Hospital's program at a local high school. I attended internship (our version of residency, more or less) at the UC Davis Medical Center, where I received world-class training in the treatment of childhood trauma and early psychosis, both separately and together. I then completed a post-doctoral fellowship at the Chicago Child Trauma Center, where I continued to build my expertise in the treatment of childhood trauma. After that, I worked at Kaiser Permanente, Oakland, for two and a half years, where I specialized in working with children and adolescents with complex, persistent symptom presentations, who had often been hospitalized multiple times for safety concerns and struggled to make progress with previous therapists.

I believe that even in the midst of a crisis, there is a strategic opportunity for growth. My path to becoming a Psychologist began in an unconventional place: the theater. As an actor and director, I spent years studying the intricacies of human motivation and the hidden 'scripts' we all follow. Today, I use that unique lens to help you understand your own inner motivations and rewrite the narratives that are no longer serving you. Whether you are navigating a major life transition, managing a career crisis, or seeking to master complex personal relationships, I don't just act as a listener—I act as your strategic partner. My goal is to turn overwhelming challenges into a clear, actionable 'success plan.' My work is grounded in a commitment to service, ensuring you feel empowered, respected, and equipped with the tools needed for long-term mastery. I don’t believe in 'cookie-cutter' therapy. Instead, I utilize a multi-disciplinary toolkit tailored to your specific barriers. My background as a Child Custody Evaluator, combined with advanced training in Clinical Hypnosis, CBT, and Imago Relationship Therapy, allows me to help you navigate and transform your role within complex family and social systems. Together, we will bridge the gap between where you are and where you want to be.

I work with individuals seeking meaningful change, greater clarity, and a stronger sense of self. My approach is grounded in warmth, empathy, and the ability to meet clients where they are—supporting them in feeling seen, understood, and empowered as they navigate life’s challenges. My work is informed by more than 60 years of life experience, both professional and personal, which brings depth, perspective, and authenticity to the therapeutic process. After several careers and at age 50—supported by ten years of sobriety—I felt called to create a more fulfilling and intentional life. Through my own work in therapy and career counseling, I chose to return to school and build the life and practice I have today. This journey continues to shape my compassion, insight, and respect for the courage it takes to pursue growth and healing. I earned both my Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Santa Clara University in California. In alignment with California requirements for licensure as a Marriage and Family Therapist, I completed 3,000 supervised clinical internship hours at Almaden Valley Counseling Agency in San Jose, where I worked with individuals, couples, families, and children. This experience strengthened my ability to work across the lifespan and address a wide range of personal, relational, and emotional concerns.

Hi there! Do you feel pulled in a million directions? Many times unable to complete tasks? Are you struggling with life’s challenges, relationships, work and health? Is it hard to be kind to yourself? I would like to help and support you in the improvement of how you’re feeling. I am a "Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT)." I have received my Master’s Degree in Counseling with an emphasis on individual, ‘Marriage and Family Therapy’, from California State University Long Beach. I specialize in supporting individuals facing dual diagnosis related to substance use and mental health. This includes challenges such as depression, anxiety, stress management, family dynamics, addiction, and overall life management. My approach is compassionate, professional, and tailored to each person’s unique needs. I am fluent in languages: English, Farsi, and Pashto. My experiences traveling throughout Europe and living in Asia and South America has shaped my understanding of how cultural backgrounds and life experiences influence the way we think, feel, and navigate our lives. I bring this perspective into my work using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, strengths-based, and mindfulness approaches to support clients in ways that are practical, respectful, and individualized. Together will consider all life's transitions, then explore what areas in your life need to improve, identify the necessary tools and coping skills that best work. This will help you to a more balanced life. I will also utilize a holistic and client-centered approach by focusing on empathy for my clients, genuineness, and unconditional positive regard. Therefore I aim to create a safe trusting space to help overcome issues and highlight your strengths leading to growth. Life can be easier, fun, and blissful! Clients have described my approach as thoughtful, compassionate, creative, and reliable with a calming demeanor and a steady strength-based, supportive presence.

Good to meet you! Please, call me Annita. To begin with--therapy means something is "right" with you, as you listened to your heart asking to be heard by someone in a safe, non-judgmental place of acceptance. Now let me ask: anxiety or depression, histories or memories of childhood or adult traumatic events, grief and loss of a beloved family member, friend, or pet to whom you were closely connected, navigating chronic illness--have any of these challenges disrupted your life so it feels intolerable? Let me hear your heart--not with a stethoscope, but with listening to you. My 30+ years of previous career in nursing taught me that 'listening' to words from the heart is one of the most important aspects of a relationship--not just hearing the words but feeling the emotional impact as well. Having worked in adult and pediatric populations, I understand that all ages and populations deserve respect, kindness and compassion. I have worked as a mental health clinician with adolescents, teens, transitional age youth, young and older adults. From a nursing perspective, I am very aware of medical issues that often affect our mental health and may need assessment by a physician to provide the best treatment, while I offer the skills that increase abilities to cope with those needs. I provide experiences in your session to help you realize your worth, build coping skills, regain confidence as well as compassion for all you have experienced in life, continue to grow through challenges, and progress toward the goal you desire. ** FLEXIBLE HOURS for you as needed for work schedules

You might be at a turning point—drained by people or work, cut off from the sense of purpose that used to guide you, or trying to make sense of a major life change. You may feel anxious, a bit obsessive at times, or weighed down by depression or habits that keep you stuck. Maybe you’ve built a life that looks fine on the surface but feels misaligned underneath. You might catch yourself wondering why you can’t just feel better despite all your effort, knowing that more of the same “success” won’t make you happy. These are the kinds of crossroads I help people navigate. I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Sacramento, California, providing emotional and behavioral support to individuals facing personal and professional challenges, and moving through major life transitions. Years in community mental health and residential treatment taught me how to support people through recovery from addiction, trauma, and complex mental health challenges. Before that, I spent 15 years in the arts and culture field and non-profit sector in Washington, D.C.—work that exposed me to the pressures, expectations, and burnout that high-performing professionals often carry. These experiences shape how I understand the worlds my clients move through and the weight they’re trying to set down.

I am an LCSW based in the Bay Area who offers compassionate psychotherapy and counseling to people coping with loss, grief, anxiety, depression, and life transitions. I have deep expertise in end-of-life navigation, both pragmatically and emotionally, both for patients and clients facing their own end of life, and their caregivers. My approach is relational and trauma-informed, focused on building trust in a supportive and therapeutic environment. I have specific expertise working with school-aged and adolescent children, teens, and young adults, as well as significant experience providing grief and loss counseling to adults of all ages. Navigating loss is one of the most profound challenges we face and it can feel overwhelming and isolating. I believe that grief is not something to be "fixed" or hurried through, but rather a normal, powerful human response that needs space, patience, and support. My practice is built on the understanding that every age group expresses and processes loss differently, requiring a highly personalized and creative approach. I support my clients to co-create a safe space to express and process their emotions, build coping skills, and uncover strengths and resilience, to be able to move forward at the pace that is right for them. Grief impacts every aspect of life, and there is no "right" way to grieve. Together, I support my clients to find hope again, understanding that we can move forward without "moving on."

Frequently asked questions

Why filter by California rather than a city like LA?

When looking for online therapy, you can see anyone that is credentialed in California. We want you to find the best fit, therefore, Grow Therapy shows available therapists across California from San Francisco to San Diego! If you’d rather see someone in-person, you can change the filter from virtual and find a therapist near you in California.

Will my therapist take insurance?

When booking you’ll be asked to verify with your Member ID. However, if you don’t have any of the insurances available you can select cash. Our therapists will have their cost of appointment on their profile. Individual session costs will vary.

How does the Specialty Filter work? Can I find a therapist that focuses on Depression?

The specialty filter is optional. You don’t need to check any boxes to see a provider. However, fit is very important when selecting an online therapist. If you have knowledge or experience to recognize what specialties you may need. For example, your selected specialty, Depression, is filtering therapists in California that work with patients with similar concerns.

Why use Gender, Age, and Identities filters?

Finding a provider with a similar life experience can be beneficial because it can be easier to establish rapport and potentially be understood quicker and clearer.

What happens during the first therapy session?

Your first therapy session is for you and your therapist to meet each other and to ask any questions that you have about the counseling process. This is where you can expect your therapist to do the same as they will ask questions to gain insight into your specific situation. In this first session the therapist is doing their part to gather as much information so they can better assess if they are able to meet your therapeutic needs. Depending upon your provider's specialty, you may also discuss the methods the therapist will use. For additional information on therapy methods, please visit the Grow Therapy Help Center. Some people feel nervous before their first appointment, and that is totally normal! Coming prepared with a list of questions for your therapist may help. Remember, you're taking a brave step by seeking therapy, and it is okay to be nervous as you try something new.
