New to Grow
Hello, and welcome. My name is Amber Boyd, and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist who believes therapy should feel like a collaborative and affirming space where you can show up fully as yourself. My work is rooted in authenticity, curiosity, and compassion, and I strive to create an environment where clients feel both supported and empowered in their healing process. As a Black, queer, femme-identified therapist, I understand the importance of having spaces where our identities, experiences, and stories are acknowledged and respected. I approach therapy with warmth and openness, helping clients explore their challenges while also recognizing the strengths and resilience they already carry. Together, we work to deepen self-awareness, strengthen coping tools, and move toward a life that feels more aligned, grounded, and authentic.
In our first session together, here's what you can expect
Our first session is all about getting to know each other and building a foundation of trust. I’d like to hear what brought you to therapy, what goals you hope to achieve, and how I can best support you along the way. I encourage openness and honesty so that together we can address your concerns and work toward meaningful progress.
The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions
In my practice, I work alongside clients to understand the patterns that shape their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. Using CBT as my foundation, I guide clients in exploring their experiences, uncovering insights, and discovering practical ways to navigate life’s challenges. Over time, I’ve seen people grow in self-awareness, develop stronger coping skills, and gain confidence in themselves and their decisions.
The clients I'm best positioned to serve
I am best positioned to support adults navigating anxiety, depression, identity exploration, and life transitions. Many of my clients come to therapy seeking a space where they can better understand themselves while processing stress related to relationships, family dynamics, career changes, or cultural and identity-based experiences. I work especially well with individuals from historically underserved communities and LGBTQ+ clients seeking an affirming space to explore their experiences, build healthier coping strategies, and create meaningful change in their lives.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I also utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), an evidence-based approach that helps clients understand the connection between their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. Together, we identify patterns that may be contributing to stress, anxiety, or self-doubt and develop practical strategies to shift those patterns. CBT is collaborative and goal-oriented, helping clients build tools they can use both inside and outside of therapy to support lasting change.
Narrative
I incorporate narrative therapy to help clients explore the stories they have internalized about themselves and their lives. Sometimes those stories are shaped by past experiences, cultural expectations, or difficult moments that can make people feel stuck or defined by their struggles. In our work together, we gently examine those narratives and create space for new, more empowering perspectives. My goal is to support clients in reconnecting with their strengths, values, and resilience so they can move forward in ways that feel more aligned with who they truly are.
