You might be at a turning point. Drained by work or the people around you, disconnected from whatever used to give things meaning, or trying to find your footing after a major life change. Maybe anxiety creeps in, thoughts get stuck on repeat, or there's a heaviness you can't quite shake. You've possibly built a life that looks fine from the outside but feels off in ways that are hard to name. And somewhere in there, you're wondering why you can't just feel better, because you're trying, and more of the same isn't working. These are the kinds of crossroads I help people navigate. I'm a Licensed Clinical Social Worker based in Sacramento, California, working with individuals facing personal and professional challenges and the kind of transitions that quietly reshape who you are. Years in community mental health, residential treatment, and crisis intervention gave me a grounding in supporting people through addiction recovery, trauma, and complex mental health struggles. Before that, I spent 15 years in the arts and culture world and the non-profit sector in Washington, D.C., which gave me a close-up view of the pressures, expectations, and burnout that people who give a lot of themselves often carry without much acknowledgment. All of it shapes how I understand what my clients are moving through, and what they're ready to put down.

I’m a therapist who often starts with a simple question: “Where are you in time and space?” I ask because I want to meet you exactly where you are, moment to moment, with curiosity, compassion, and real interest in your story. Together, we pay attention to how you connect (or pull away) from yourself and others, including what shows up between us in the room, so those patterns can shift. I draw from different tools and perspectives to fit who you are, and I value collaboration, honesty, playfulness, and helping you leave sessions feeling a little more grounded, motivated, and whole.

I have 22 years of experience in the public mental health system and I have worked with adults and professionals who are navigating anxiety, depression, stress, and major changes, and who are looking for practical support and lasting relief. My approach is collaborative, supportive, and goal-oriented. I use CBT and solution-focused therapy to help you understand unhelpful patterns, build on your strengths, and create meaningful change. I also incorporate mindfulness along with health and life coaching tools to support emotional balance, resilience, and follow-through in daily life. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with five years of experience providing individual therapy for adults navigating anxiety, depression, grief, and major life transitions. I am deeply committed to helping clients heal emotionally, build resilience, and reconnect with their sense of worth and purpose. My passion for this work is rooted in lived experience. Moving to Nigeria at the age of six, losing my father at twelve, and later experiencing the loss of my newborn taught me firsthand about grief, strength, and the importance of compassionate support. These experiences shaped both who I am and how I show up as a therapist—with empathy, cultural sensitivity, and a deep respect for each client’s journey. I believe healing happens when people feel safe, understood, and empowered. My approach is trauma-informed, collaborative, and grounded in helping clients move from feeling overwhelmed or stuck toward clarity, emotional balance, and meaningful personal growth.

Hello. I am a licensed social worker in California. I began practicing in the mental health/behavioral health field in 2011. I originally was licensed in Maryland in 2015 but then returned to California in 2016. Since starting in the field, I have worked with individuals ranging in age from 4 years old to 75 years old; most experience working with individuals between the ages of 10 and 35. I have experience working with individuals experiencing homelessness, depression, anxiety, parenting problems, and relationship issues. I am an ally of the LGBTQI community and can provide a safe, telehealth space for them. Unfortunately, at this time, I cannot accommodate individuals seeking letters for emotional support animals or those mandated by the court or legal system for therapy. With that said, my goal in being a counselor, is to assist my clients in meeting their identified treatment needs. I am flexible and willing to do whatever I need to do to assist you and help you in any way that I can. If when viewing my profile, you feel as though I am a good fit, but my schedule does not meet your scheduling needs, please feel free to send me a message as I may be able to fit you in at a different time. I work evenings and weekends.

If you are looking for structured CBT or skills-based homework, I may not be the right fit. Therapy with me involves examining avoidance and ambivalence as they arise (I’ll tend to be more direct with you when emotional or mental patterns like that emerge). Most people don’t need more advice. They need space to slow down enough to hear what’s actually happening inside them. My work is less about fixing and more about listening; not just to the words, but to what’s underneath them. The pace of our conversations will be different from the rest of your life: slower, steadier, more honest. My goal is to help you come into contact with yourself again, to notice what’s true and what you really want.

Ever since I was a young man, I had the desire to help others in need. My classmates told me that I should be a psychiatrist due to the fact I had a natural ability to read people very well. I am glad I get to do what I am passionate about for a living; it feels as if I am not working at all because I enjoy the work so much. My style of therapy is conversational. I would never ask what is wrong with you, but what is right with you. Working from the strengths perspective is important because enhancing our strengths can help you be a better person and what is why you come to therapy in the first place.

Hi there! Nice to meet you. My name is Ryan and I am really glad you are here. I’m not your stereotypical “sit and nod” kind of therapist—I like to keep things real, down-to-earth, and maybe even a little fun when it feels right. My goal is to create a space where you can show up exactly as you are, without fear of being judged or “too much.” I work with both teens and adults, using a person-centered approach that focuses on you—your story, your strengths, and your pace. Whether you’re navigating anxiety, depression, or figuring out life as a neurodivergent person in a world that doesn’t always get it, we’ll work together to make sense of what’s been heavy and find ways to lighten the load. I’m here to help you understand yourself better, build self-trust, and move toward a life that feels more balanced and authentic. Therapy with me is a mix of empathy, honesty, and humor. Some days it’s deep reflection; other days it’s simply finding a moment of calm in the chaos. I believe growth doesn’t have to mean changing who you are—it’s about reconnecting with who you’ve always been. Outside of sessions, I’m usuall spending time at the gym, with my dog that I am training to be my service dog, my latest crochet project, thrifting, mindfulness exercises or in my own therapy. If you’re looking for a therapist who’s approachable, open-minded, and genuinely invested in helping you feel understood, I’d love to meet you.

Frequently asked questions

Why filter by California rather than a city like LA?

When looking for online therapy, you can see anyone that is credentialed in California. We want you to find the best fit, therefore, Grow Therapy shows available therapists across California from San Francisco to San Diego! If you’d rather see someone in-person, you can change the filter from virtual and find a therapist near you in California.

Will my therapist take Anthem?

Yes! If you use Anthem you’ll be asked to verify your Member ID at the time you book the appointment. However, if you don’t have Anthem you can select cash. Our therapists will have their cost of appointment on their profile. Individual session costs will vary.

How does the Specialty Filter work? Can I find a therapist that focuses on a specific issue?

The specialty filter is optional. You don’t need to check any boxes to see a provider. However, fit is very important when selecting an online therapist. If you have knowledge or experience to recognize what specialties you may need.

Why use Gender, Age, and Identities filters?

Finding a provider with a similar life experience can be beneficial because it can be easier to establish rapport and potentially be understood quicker and clearer.

What happens during the first therapy session?

Your first therapy session is for you and your therapist to meet each other and to ask any questions that you have about the counseling process. This is where you can expect your therapist to do the same as they will ask questions to gain insight into your specific situation. In this first session the therapist is doing their part to gather as much information so they can better assess if they are able to meet your therapeutic needs. Depending upon your provider's specialty, you may also discuss the methods the therapist will use. For additional information on therapy methods, please visit the Grow Therapy Help Center. Some people feel nervous before their first appointment, and that is totally normal! Coming prepared with a list of questions for your therapist may help. Remember, you're taking a brave step by seeking therapy, and it is okay to be nervous as you try something new.
