LMFT, 8 years of experience
I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and a Board Certified Registered Art Therapist. I received my Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy from Notre Dame de Namur University. Classes in the MFT program also met the requirements for the American Art therapy Association for art therapy. I am also a Christian and provide therapy from that perspective for those who want their faith to be a part of the therapy process. I believe our spiritual well-being and relationship with God can have a significant influence on all other areas of our lives including mental health. I have a holistic approach to therapy looking at how mental, physical, and spiritual health impact each other in both positive and negative ways. I have experience in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) supporting clients in gaining a healthier relationship with their thoughts and feelings. I have worked extensively with clients in coping with depression, stress and anxiety, as well as in processing grief, loss, and life transitions. I am passionate about making mental health services more readily available to those who need it and normalizing the need for them.
The first session is all about getting to know my client better and then working together to identify what goals they want to focus on during therapy. This means there are more questions in the first session to help us figure out where we are at and where we want to go.
I provide a safe non-judgmental space for my clients to process their thoughts and feelings. I help clients identify and work to their strengths introducing strategies and differing perspectives to help them achieve their goals.
I love working with people from their teens to any age supporting them as they work though life adjustments including loss of a loved one and also in coping with anxiety and depression. I am also finding that I have a passion for working with adults with Autism and ADHD exploring how they interact with the world and the messages they have internalized about themselves.
I utilize ACT to help clients learn to accept where they are at in the moment while working to make small choices in their life based on their values to move toward the person they want to be.
As a Christian I am always happy to encourage and incorporate faith into my practice when my client wishes to have that as part of their therapy.

Not being very technologically savvy we couldn't figure out how to get my camera to work because when I click the camera button it didn't come on so if there is someone who understands the system, one that I've never used before and they can give me a little advice or tutorial about this that would be appreciated

I feel comfortable being able to discuss anything with her. She offers valuable insights and practical ideas to support my challenges. She will crochet while we talk sometimes or sit with her cat on her lap and I find it comforting. I appreciate that I can share my Christian beliefs and experiences with her and she can relate with her own experiences based in her faith. She is friendly and warm and it feels like I am chatting with a friend rather than a mental health professional.

Laura is very kind and very sweet; however, I don’t feel like there’s much feedback given, and that most of my session is about me just going on and on and on until there’s a lull in my rant where she then takes a minute and jump in to give some kind of a prompt. Also, I get distracted by her knitting and whatever else she’s doing during your sessions and I get it because I am somebody who sometimes needs to have something in order to hear people, but it’s very distracting.
