I'm Alexis DeFendis, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, and I believe that healing happens through genuine connection, curiosity, and feeling truly understood. My path to becoming a therapist wasn't a straight line. Before entering the counseling profession, I spent years working in neuroscience research and health technology. While that work was meaningful, I eventually realized what fulfilled me most wasn't analyzing data—it was understanding people. Becoming a therapist became more than a career change; it became part of my own journey of healing and discovering my purpose. That experience allows me to sit with clients not only as a clinician but as someone who understands what it feels like to question your direction, navigate life's unexpected challenges, and create meaningful change. Today, I work with adults, couples, and individuals facing anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship concerns, life transitions, stress, and burnout. My approach is warm, collaborative, and grounded in evidence-based practices including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), mindfulness, and systems-based interventions. I believe therapy isn't about "fixing" who you are—it's about helping you better understand yourself, build resilience, and create a life that feels authentic and fulfilling. Whether you're feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or simply looking for a space where you can be yourself without judgment, I'm honored to walk alongside you. My goal is to create a therapeutic relationship where you feel safe, supported, and empowered to make lasting change.

Teenagers often arrive in therapy carrying things that no one at home or school knows how to name yet. I've spent years working alongside adolescents and their families in schools and community settings—and I bring that same depth to my work with adults navigating anxiety, depression, ADHD, grief, and major life transitions. I also specialize in early psychosis: working with teens and young adults experiencing their first break with reality, and the families trying to understand what's happening. My approach centers on building clear goals, strengthening hope, and learning to move through the uncertainty that real change requires. Hi, I’m Andrea, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist originally from Costa Rica. I specialize in working with young children and their caregivers, helping families navigate emotional, behavioral, and relationship challenges with greater confidence, connection, and understanding. Many of the families I work with are feeling overwhelmed by frequent meltdowns, anxiety, behavioral concerns, school difficulties, or the lasting effects of stressful and traumatic experiences. My approach is rooted in the belief that children thrive when they feel safe, understood, and connected to the important adults in their lives. Rather than focusing only on a child’s symptoms or behaviors, I work collaboratively with parents and caregivers to strengthen relationships, build emotional regulation skills, and create lasting change within the family system. With specialized training in trauma, attachment, play therapy, and PC-CARE, I provide an integrative and family-centered approach that supports both children and their caregivers. I am known for being warm, engaged, and deeply invested in the families I work with. I strive to create a supportive space where parents feel empowered and children feel seen, valued, and understood. As a bilingual therapist and someone who understands the experience of navigating different cultures, I bring cultural sensitivity and curiosity into my work. My goal is to help families move beyond survival mode and build stronger, healthier, and more connected relationships.

Hi, I’m Dr. Cathy Evangelatos, I look forward to supporting you on your journey toward healing and growth. I am a licensed clinical psychologist in California with a doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the American School of Professional Psychology. I also hold a Master’s degree in Theology, enabling me to offer specialized Christian-integrated therapy for clients who desire to integrate their faith into their personal growth and healing. I hold a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology, which provides significantly more rigorous training and expertise than a standard two-year Master’s-level therapist. Psychologists typically complete 5–7+ years of doctoral-level education beyond a bachelor’s degree, with extensive training in evidence-based psychological interventions, assessment, diagnosis, and advanced treatment approaches. In contrast, most Master’s-level therapists (such as MFTs or LCSWs) complete a two-year graduate program focused primarily on relational and family systems work. This advanced doctoral training allows me to deliver deeper, more nuanced, and highly effective care — empowering you to achieve meaningful, lasting change with greater insight, precision, and support than a standard Master’s-level therapist can typically provide.

Hi, I’m Colette, a Licensed Professional Counselor. I know starting therapy can feel like a big step, and I’m glad you’re here. I provide a calm, supportive space where you can feel safe to share your story and begin making sense of what you’re going through. Grief work is at the heart of my practice. Whether you’re coping with the loss of a loved one, a major life change, or a more personal kind of loss, I’m here to support you. I also work with adults navigating anxiety, depression, addiction and recovery, maternal mental health, and life transitions. In our work together, we’ll explore your experiences at a pace that feels right for you. We can look at patterns from the past, while also building tools to help you manage the present. I use mindfulness and CBT techniques to support you in understanding your thoughts and finding ways to cope with stress. In grief work, we may also create meaningful rituals or practices to honor your loved ones while caring for yourself. I believe it’s possible to hold both pain and joy, and I will support you in finding that balance. If you feel ready, I invite you to take the next step and schedule an appointment. You Don't Have to Figure This Out Alone Life gets hard. Really hard. And when it does, most of us try to push through on our own — until we can't anymore. I get it. I've spent my career sitting with people in their hardest moments, and I know how much it matters to feel truly heard. That's what I'm here for. Getting older isn't easy — for you or for the people who love you. Whether you're facing a health crisis, losing your independence, or watching someone you love change before your eyes, the emotional weight can be overwhelming. I work with adults and families to help make sense of it all. Grief is its own kind of exhaustion. It doesn't follow a schedule, and it doesn't look the same for everyone. Whether you've lost a person, a role, a relationship, or the future you planned on— your loss is real, and it deserves real time and attention. I am a therapist and social worker with over 10 years experience working in oncology, palliative care and hospice. Some days you need someone to just listen. Other days you want straight talk and a plan. I am practical, down-to-earth, personal and kind. Taking that first step to reach out takes courage. If any of this sounds like what you've been looking for, I'd love to hear from you. I invite you to give me a call for a free 15-minute consultation. We can talk about your needs and how I can help.

Sometimes, as adults, we discover that our ability to make decisions; to love someone; to accept the love of another; to feel peace and inner calm; to find the motivation to accomplish goals; to forgive a betrayal; and to experience self-acceptance and confidence can feel limited, creating distress and discomfort. Thus begins the journey of an examined life. When you explore how you operate, what influences your choices, and what has contributed to your experiences, you begin the process of enriching your internal resources. This expansion of resources broadens your choices and options in life and holds the potential for higher functioning and greater happiness. As a therapist, I provide a safe, comfortable, and nonjudgmental environment. I am easy to talk to, interactive, respectfully direct, and mindful of diverse cultures, backgrounds, and sexual orientations. I work collaboratively with my clients to set goals and utilize each individual’s strengths and resources, supporting the discovery of an authentic self that experiences life in a richer and more satisfying way.

I support my clients by providing them with the skills they need to manage their daily struggles and ultimately reach their goals. I use evidence-based practices including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, and mindfulness techniques to support my clients in the healing process. I like to individualize each of my client's needs, and there is a vast assortment of many other approaches and tools that I use. My name is Neha, and I use she/her pronouns. I have been practicing as a therapist for the past four years and am passionate about helping individuals navigate life's challenges with greater confidence and resilience. My path to becoming a therapist was shaped by my own experiences of immigration and adapting to a new culture. Growing up in a community-oriented country, I deeply valued the sense of connection and belonging that surrounded me. After moving to the United States, I became more aware of how meaningful those connections can be and was inspired to create that same sense of support and understanding for others. This experience continues to guide my work as I strive to provide a compassionate, collaborative space where clients feel seen, heard, and supported in their growth. In my free time I like to go on hikes, try the newest Matcha spot in town, and learn different languages.

Welcome to my practice! I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in California with more than 20 years of experience providing individual, couples, and family therapy. My areas of expertise include depression, anxiety, anger issues, and self-harm behaviors. I want to get to know you and what might be happening with you that you are seeking counseling for. Most people come to therapy when they are in some type of distress. Sometimes this is conscious and sometimes not. If you are feeling struggling or distressed for some reason or grieving a loss in life, I would like to see how we can work in therapy. The way we work will depend on the issues you bring to therapy. I have experience with different approaches to therapy including but not limited to HUMANISTIC THERAPY (includes the importance of personal responsibility, and a positive, non-judgmental approach), STRUCTURAL FAMILY SYSTEMS (includes the importance of family structure and healthy boundaries), GOTTMAN (includes helping couples communicate better, resolve conflicts constructively, and create a shared sense of meaning), CBT (generally includes a short-term approach that helps you identify and change negative or unhelpful patterns of thinking and behavior to improve your mood and overall well-being). All the above types of counseling styles point towards change or growth. Many times, there is a creative element to counseling and many times the counseling can give you more of a sense of purpose for yourself in life. Please see my calendar with Grow to sign up for an appointment today.

I am a licensed clinical psychologist in California and Washington and provide outpatient psychotherapy services in-person and via telehealth. I have been licensed for approximately 1.5 years, I have 7 years of supervised clinical experience across rehabilitation clinics, community mental health, and the Department of Veterans Affairs, where I trained under licensed psychologists before becoming licensed myself. I primarily work with first responders, active-duty military personnel, and veterans. These professions often involve repeated exposure to stress, uncertainty, trauma, and significant personal sacrifice, which can affect well-being, relationships, and life outside of work. My goal is to help clients navigate these challenges while also building lives that feel meaningful, fulfilling, and aligned with what matters most to them.

I am a passionate and dedicated Bilingual Clinical Therapist, committed to providing compassionate and effective mental health services to individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds. With fluency in two languages, I bridge the communication gap and create a safe, non-judgmental environment for my clients to explore their emotions, challenges, and personal growth. Frequently asked questions

When looking for online therapy, you can see anyone that is credentialed in California. We want you to find the best fit, therefore, Grow Therapy shows available therapists across California from San Francisco to San Diego! If you’d rather see someone in-person, you can change the filter from virtual and find a therapist near you in California.

When booking you’ll be asked to verify with your Member ID. However, if you don’t have any of the insurances available you can select cash. Our therapists will have their cost of appointment on their profile. Individual session costs will vary.

The specialty filter is optional. You don’t need to check any boxes to see a provider. However, fit is very important when selecting an online therapist. If you have knowledge or experience to recognize what specialties you may need. For example, your selected specialty, Grief, is filtering therapists in California that work with patients with similar concerns.

Finding a provider with a similar life experience can be beneficial because it can be easier to establish rapport and potentially be understood quicker and clearer.

Your first therapy session is for you and your therapist to meet each other and to ask any questions that you have about the counseling process. This is where you can expect your therapist to do the same as they will ask questions to gain insight into your specific situation. In this first session the therapist is doing their part to gather as much information so they can better assess if they are able to meet your therapeutic needs. Depending upon your provider's specialty, you may also discuss the methods the therapist will use. For additional information on therapy methods, please visit the Grow Therapy Help Center. Some people feel nervous before their first appointment, and that is totally normal! Coming prepared with a list of questions for your therapist may help. Remember, you're taking a brave step by seeking therapy, and it is okay to be nervous as you try something new.
