I am currently a marriage and family therapist licensed in the state of California. As a clinician I have 6+ years’ experience working in residential care as well as community mental health treating children, adolescents, and adults who suffer from various challenges and diagnosis. I have also now worked remotely for 4+ years providing individual therapy to all ages and populations. In treatment, I believe that each and every person has the power and the courage to face their trauma and find fulfillment and joy in their lives. I view trauma as the root cause for the majority of mental health problems and diagnoses. I believe that treating trauma is the foundation for each client to heal and find wellness in their lives. In the therapeutic process I believe the therapist and client should work together collaboratively to establish wellness goals and a plan to reach those goals. I have been trained in multiple trauma therapy modalities including EMDR, TF-CBT, EFT(emotional freedom technique), and mindfulness. I have used each of these techniques in treatment to process traumatic memories and heal trauma associated symptoms. I have also utilized EMDR to manage chronic pain and sensory issues. Outside of trauma therapy I have treated and managed individuals challenged with ADHD, Autism, and Learning disabilities. I have been trained in ABA and Pivotal Response when working with youth and adolescents with these diagnoses.

Sometimes a thoughtful conversation with the right person can make all the difference. As an experienced therapist, husband, and father, I bring both professional training and real-life wisdom to help people navigate life’s challenges. Over many years of both life and clinical work, I’ve had the privilege of helping people move through difficult seasons, gain clarity, and reconnect with their strengths. Whether this is your first time seeking therapy or you’re returning after time away, it’s normal to feel uncertain. Our first conversation is simply a starting point. I often work with people facing life transitions, relationship challenges, or feeling stuck, seeking clarity and a practical path forward. Together, we’ll slow things down, understand what’s happening, and identify steps that help you move forward. If you’re going through a difficult season, you don’t have to navigate it alone.

I am a psychologist who works with a balance of warmth and precision. I pay close attention to patterns—how they formed, how they show up, and what keeps them in place. I tend to be active in sessions, helping you make connections, ask questions that matter, and gently challenge what no longer serves you. At the same time, I hold space for what is difficult without rushing it. My background includes work in forensic psychology, which has shaped my ability to notice patterns quickly and remain steady in the presence of intensity. In addition to my clinical work, I have spent over a decade teaching graduate-level psychology, which informs the way I explain complex ideas in ways that feel accessible, grounded, and useful. I see therapy as a collaborative process where understanding leads to change—not through force, but through clarity.

I am a bilingual (Spanish & English) marriage and family therapist licensed in California with over 14 years of experience working in clinical practice. I am born and raised in San Francisco's Mission District. I am Salvarodan and Nicaraguan; and a native Spanish speaker. I adhere to the First Nations (Maya and Nahuatl) and Yoruba paradigm of health and wellness. I integrate these paradigms within the framework of Liberation Psychology; and evidenced-based techniques and interventions to empower clients on their healing journey. I understand how forced displacement, systemic & institutionalized oppression, discrimination, and the multitude of microagressions historically marginalized communities endure lead to the re-enactment of the violence caused by colonialism. Affirmation about cultural and ethnic identity is generally lacking at the present moment resulting in many communities experiencing traumatic, and humiliating experiences related to their ethnic pride and culture.

Welcome to Your Therapeutic Journey! My name is Trent, and I am pleased to assist you in addressing the behavioral health concerns you've brought to your journey with me today. As a Client-Centered and Solution-Focused therapist, my goal is to support you in defining and achieving your personal dreams and aspirations. To begin, I would like to introduce the "miracle question." This exercise will help us envision what your ideal life would look like if you were to wake up tomorrow with everything in place as you hope. Once we establish this vision, we can prioritize your goals and collaborate on developing strategies and coping mechanisms that align with your desired outcomes. It's important to recognize that your fulfillment is shaped by your efforts and the meaningful interactions that you've identified as significant. Once we've created a treatment plan based on your objectives, we will work through each goal step by step. Regular check-ins will allow us to assess your feelings about your progress and make any necessary adjustments to the treatment plan, including the addition of new goals as they arise. Please keep in mind that the therapeutic process can sometimes feel challenging before it improves, so your feedback is crucial. It will enable me to adapt your treatment plan to ensure that your therapeutic goals are being effectively addressed. Should you wish to schedule your first session, I invite you to check my calendar for available slots and self-book at your convenience. I look forward to meeting with you soon. In the meantime, please feel free to reach out for support or with any questions or concerns you may have. I strive to respond to chat messages within 24 hours when possible. Congratulations on taking this significant step toward your therapeutic goals! Best regards, Trent

Hi, I’m Natalie! I’m a Northern California-based Licensed Clinical Social Worker who works individually with adults. I believes therapy is most effective when it feels like a genuine, supportive relationship. Real progress happens when you feel comfortable, understood, and connected—and that’s always where I begin. My style is warm, relaxed, and non-judgmental. I focus on building authentic connections and letting you take the lead at a pace that feels right. At the same time, I’m not afraid to ask thoughtful questions, offer supportive challenges, and use humor to lighten the process when it fits. I view you as the expert of your own life, and my role is to help you recognize and build on your strengths. While I prefer an unstructured, conversational approach, I also draw on evidence-based practices for skill-building and support when helpful. Many people come to therapy feeling overwhelmed by anxiety, past experiences, or life stressors that makes it difficult to feel calm, confident and fully present in their lives. I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist who works with adults experiencing anxiety, trauma, depression and challenges that can leave people feeling stuck, discouraged, and disconnected. Relationships might feel overly painful, or seem to start out great, but inevitably end with disappointment. People might feel they can't trust themselves, which can lead to hopelessness, despair and even depression. Some may have things sorted pretty well, but there's that one area that seems to poison the well and whatever you try, it just won't change. Whatever it might be, my approach is compassionate, collaborative, empowering and practical. I integrate trauma-informed modalities such as EMDR, DBT, Mindfulness and Somatic/body-based approaches to help my clients better understand their emotions, cope better and create meaningful change. I have helped people in community mental health, acute crisis and in private practice. Most recently, I worked on a DBT Team, helping people learn to heal from trauma, narcissistic and other abuse, and the characterological issues that can follow, and finally to restructure and rebuild their lives. I also welcome conversations about meaning, purpose and the spiritual dimensions of healing when that is important to the client.

Hi! I'm Dr. Chelsea Acker, a licensed clinical psychologist with expertise working with children and adolescents. I'm experienced with a range of concerns, but I have specialized training in treating trauma, suicidality, and early psychosis. In 2019, I graduated from the PAU-Stanford PsyD Consortium, where I trained at the Stanford School of Medicine's psychiatry department and Lucile Packard Children's Hospital's program at a local high school. I attended internship (our version of residency, more or less) at the UC Davis Medical Center, where I received world-class training in the treatment of childhood trauma and early psychosis, both separately and together. I then completed a post-doctoral fellowship at the Chicago Child Trauma Center, where I continued to build my expertise in the treatment of childhood trauma. After that, I worked at Kaiser Permanente, Oakland, for two and a half years, where I specialized in working with children and adolescents with complex, persistent symptom presentations, who had often been hospitalized multiple times for safety concerns and struggled to make progress with previous therapists.

Hello! I’m glad you’re here. Reaching out for support can take courage, and my hope is to offer a space where you feel seen, understood, and empowered to move toward the life you want. From school-aged youth to aging adults, in both underserved areas and affluent communities, I have supported clients navigating complex personal, social, and political landscapes. I’ve been an advocate and resource for clients through moments of profound uncertainty—including ICE raids, community crises, and the isolation of the COVID‑19 stay‑at‑home period. Across every setting, I strive to meet people with respect, curiosity, and a deep belief in their capacity for growth. I am a queer identified, cisgender, white male who's deeply proud of the LGBTQ+ community I'm part of and our diverse range of identities, abilities, and ways of life. Outside of my clinical work, I enjoy staying physically active and creative. Listening to music, going to concerts, and personally performing help me to recharge and find joy.

I work with individuals seeking meaningful change, greater clarity, and a stronger sense of self. My approach is grounded in warmth, empathy, and the ability to meet clients where they are—supporting them in feeling seen, understood, and empowered as they navigate life’s challenges. My work is informed by more than 60 years of life experience, both professional and personal, which brings depth, perspective, and authenticity to the therapeutic process. After several careers and at age 50—supported by ten years of sobriety—I felt called to create a more fulfilling and intentional life. Through my own work in therapy and career counseling, I chose to return to school and build the life and practice I have today. This journey continues to shape my compassion, insight, and respect for the courage it takes to pursue growth and healing. I earned both my Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Santa Clara University in California. In alignment with California requirements for licensure as a Marriage and Family Therapist, I completed 3,000 supervised clinical internship hours at Almaden Valley Counseling Agency in San Jose, where I worked with individuals, couples, families, and children. This experience strengthened my ability to work across the lifespan and address a wide range of personal, relational, and emotional concerns.

Hi, I’m Helen. I’m a Filipina-American therapist, and I work with Asian and immigrant women, postpartum moms, and Christian couples who are used to holding a lot—quietly, responsibly, and often without much space for themselves. On the outside, you’re capable and dependable. But internally, it can feel like anxiety, pressure, and a kind of exhaustion that doesn’t always get named. Therapy with me is a space where you don’t have to carry all of that alone. You set the pace. I’ll gently guide you, offer tools, and help you make sense of what you’re feeling—so things start to feel a little lighter, a little more grounded, and a lot more sustainable. I support you through postpartum anxiety, cultural expectations, perfectionism, and that deep sense of over-responsibility—so you can reconnect with yourself in a way that feels calm, steady, and true. For couples, we slow things down together. We look at the patterns, create more understanding, and strengthen your connection—while honoring your faith and the values that matter most to you. Because at the end of the day, this is your life. And my role is to support you in living it in a way that actually feels aligned, meaningful, and like your own.

I’m a therapist who primarily works with men dealing with relationship struggles, trauma, and anxiety that’s started to affect work, family, and daily life. I’ve worked in a men’s trauma center as well as in private practice, so I’m very comfortable sitting with the heavier stuff that most guys have learned to keep to themselves. My style is direct, non‑judgmental, and very relational, think real conversation, honest feedback, and a focus on what actually helps you feel and live better, not just “talking about your feelings” for an hour.

Frequently asked questions

Why filter by California rather than a city like LA?

When looking for online therapy, you can see anyone that is credentialed in California. We want you to find the best fit, therefore, Grow Therapy shows available therapists across California from San Francisco to San Diego! If you’d rather see someone in-person, you can change the filter from virtual and find a therapist near you in California.

Will my therapist take insurance?

When booking you’ll be asked to verify with your Member ID. However, if you don’t have any of the insurances available you can select cash. Our therapists will have their cost of appointment on their profile. Individual session costs will vary.

How does the Specialty Filter work? Can I find a therapist that focuses on Grief?

The specialty filter is optional. You don’t need to check any boxes to see a provider. However, fit is very important when selecting an online therapist. If you have knowledge or experience to recognize what specialties you may need. For example, your selected specialty, Grief, is filtering therapists in California that work with patients with similar concerns.

Why use Gender, Age, and Identities filters?

Finding a provider with a similar life experience can be beneficial because it can be easier to establish rapport and potentially be understood quicker and clearer.

What happens during the first therapy session?

Your first therapy session is for you and your therapist to meet each other and to ask any questions that you have about the counseling process. This is where you can expect your therapist to do the same as they will ask questions to gain insight into your specific situation. In this first session the therapist is doing their part to gather as much information so they can better assess if they are able to meet your therapeutic needs. Depending upon your provider's specialty, you may also discuss the methods the therapist will use. For additional information on therapy methods, please visit the Grow Therapy Help Center. Some people feel nervous before their first appointment, and that is totally normal! Coming prepared with a list of questions for your therapist may help. Remember, you're taking a brave step by seeking therapy, and it is okay to be nervous as you try something new.
