In our first session together, here's what you can expect
In your first session with Mr. Ilya Shtykan, you can expect a supportive and nonjudgmental space where you’ll have the opportunity to share what brings you to therapy at your own pace. Ilya will ask questions to better understand your concerns, background, and goals, while also explaining how the therapy process works. Drawing from his experience working with diverse populations, including individuals with co-occurring substance use and mental health challenges, he focuses on helping clients feel seen, heard, and understood. The first session is about building comfort, clarity, and a foundation for meaningful progress together.
The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions
What stands out about my approach is the balance between insight and action. I help clients understand the deeper roots of their patterns while also giving them practical tools they can use right away. My style is direct, empathetic, and focused on meaningful, lasting change.
The clients I'm best positioned to serve
I’m best positioned to work with individuals and couples struggling with anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, trauma, and co-occurring substance use. I work well with clients who are motivated for change, open to self-reflection, and ready to break unhealthy patterns. My focus is on helping people build insight, emotional stability, and healthier ways of coping and connecting.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
In CBT, I help clients notice how their thoughts influence their feelings and behaviors. We work together to identify unhelpful thinking patterns and replace them with more balanced ones. I also teach practical coping tools they can use in everyday life.
Eclectic
In eclectic therapy, I draw from different approaches depending on what the client needs. I tailor the work to the person rather than sticking to one method. This allows us to be flexible and use the tools that fit best for their goals and situation.
Grief Therapy
In grief therapy, I help clients process their loss at their own pace. We make space for the emotions that come up, while also finding ways to cope with daily life. I support clients in understanding their grief and learning how to carry it in a healthier way.
Interpersonal
In interpersonal therapy, I help clients look at how their relationships affect their mood and stress levels. We focus on improving communication, setting healthy boundaries, and working through conflicts. The goal is to strengthen relationships and reduce emotional distress.
Psychodynamic
In psychodynamic therapy, I help clients explore how past experiences and early relationships shape their current thoughts, feelings, and patterns. We look at themes that show up repeatedly and bring awareness to what may be happening beneath the surface. The goal is deeper insight and lasting change.
