Hi, I'm Dr. Alysha! Are you ready to Empower your Mental Health? By creating a safe place for processing and expression, I support persons on their unique healing journey to strengthen authenticity and resiliency. My overall approach uses psychodynamic talk therapy, offering space to those wanting to explore new perspectives, reframes, and change. When we internalize or suppress our emotions and experiences of adversity, we may be faced with lasting emotional trauma that impacts our entire well-being. However there is power in validation and relatability and that is why I utilize a client-centered, strengths-based method, with consideration for relational, intersectional, and social justice contexts. I don’t consider myself an advice giver, but instead, I will collaborate with you to recognize your choices and help you make the best one for yourself. My objective is for you to feel empowered by reducing emotional burdens, developing coping strategies, identifying resources, and enhancing your strengths. You will be treated with respectful, objective, non-biased assistance. I believe that with the right amount of support, guidance, and compassion, our capabilities are endless. **Please note Couples Therapy is Cash Only at $200 per session. If you’re reading this, it means you exist. Based on your religion, culture, or general belief, you may have a meaning for existence. However, no matter your meaning, one thing is clear - existence can be very challenging for us. There are many ways to cope with the challenges of existing, resulting in different experiences. Therapy is just one way to manage the challenges. Therapy There are many ways to approach therapy. One way I like to approach it is to view an individual as a system. In therapy then, we check the system to see what’s working well, what’s neutral, and what’s not going well. In doing this, the goal is to get an individual to admit the reality of things, not what the individual wants or hopes but the present true reality. It's important to identify and understand the reality of an individual because often there are significant fears and or unstable belief in the individual’s ability to manage challenges and get desired results. Lack of control – one of the foundational fears for us is the lack of control we seem to have over ourselves and others. How does one cope with seemingly so little control - from how one comes into existence to how will my friend react if I said no. Whether you’re a veteran in going to therapy or trying it for the first time, we will work as a team to see if we can get you to be how you want to be given the infinite things that are not in your control.

Are you struggling with the ability to practice self-love? Or maybe you are not entirely sure exactly what that is. Perhaps you are tired of feeling bad about yourself, your appearance, guilty for not being "enough" to others, and lacking energy. For some people, feeling like this leads them to try and feel better by eating, overspending money, overexercising, or investing in bad relationships. Often enough, time spent in these ways (and more) can leave someone feeling even more depleted. If you can relate to any of this, you are certainly not alone. Together we will tackle your discontent stemming from your challenges to understand and practice self-love. You will learn what self-love consists of, understand how to shift any unhelpful thought patterns, build better boundaries, and put into practice what you have learned during weekly sessions and through homework assignments in between sessions to improve your ability to demonstrate that you love being YOU! I have over 7 years of experience as a licensed therapist working with individuals and couples. I am also a licensed CPA so I integrate a practical and structured approach to therapy where I will validate your concerns while supporting your movement towards solutions.

My own experiences of building and nurturing a family have influenced my focus on helping couples and families thrive. I understand the dynamics and complexities that arise within intimate relationships and the importance of fostering healthy connections. My goal as a therapist is to create a safe and non-judgmental space where individuals, couples, and families can explore their emotions, conflicts, and challenges. Having worked in the field for five years, I have gained valuable experience and expertise in helping clients navigate their relationship dynamics and personal growth. I am committed to normalizing emotions, recognizing that experiencing a range of emotions is a natural and essential part of the human experience. My approach is centered around placing well-being as a priority. I believe that when individuals prioritize their own mental and emotional health, they are better equipped to cultivate healthy and fulfilling relationships. I work collaboratively with clients, empowering them to gain self-awareness, develop effective communication skills, and implement strategies that support their overall well-being. Through therapy, my intention is to support clients in fostering stronger connections, resolving conflicts, and achieving personal and relational growth. I am passionate about helping individuals and families navigate life's challenges, providing them with the tools and support they need to lead fulfilling and meaningful lives.

I am originally from Los Angeles and moved to Amherst Massachusetts to study photojournalism at Hampshire College. While I appreciated that pictures tell their own stories, I felt pulled to linger within the ongoing experiences of the folks I captured on film. Obtaining my graduate degree in psychodynamic therapy from Smith College confirmed the importance and complexities of witnessing people beyond just a moment in time.

Hi there. Thanks for stopping by. I’m Chynna, a perinatal mental health clinician. I specialize in supporting parents and partners of all genders navigate towards a version of parenthood that feels good from before day one and beyond. My work with clients is informed by my undergraduate degree in Gender Studies with a concentration in Women’s Reproductive Health, as well as a graduate degree in Counseling Psychology. Your sessions would benefit from extensive post-graduate trainings in: Internal Family Systems, Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Perinatal Mood Disorders (PSI), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy. Drawing upon these modalities I utilize an eclectic blend of primarily somatic, systemic, attachment-centered, and psychodynamic approaches to ground and grow what is already working so you can thrive. To our work together I bring lived experience as a parent who sought assisted reproductive technologies to become pregnant. My winding path to becoming a parent and a clinician arose out of my own challenges during my pregnancies and postpartum periods. These experiences, coupled with a lack of culturally aware support that honored my unique identities as a Black woman from a deeply spiritual Caribbean culture, left me feeling lost and alone. While my path’s start may differ from yours, I have likely been close to where you are and so I offer you hope and an array of strategies to honors all parts of you that show up in our work together.

Frequently asked questions

Why filter by California rather than a city like LA?

When looking for online therapy, you can see anyone that is credentialed in the state. We want you to find the best fit, therefore, Grow Therapy shows available therapists across California from San Francisco to San Diego! If you’d rather see someone in-person, you can change the filter from virtual and find a therapist near you in California.

Will my therapist take insurance?

When booking you’ll be asked to verify with your Member ID. However, if you don’t have any of the insurances available you can select cash. Our therapists will have their cost of appointment on their profile. Individual session costs will vary.

How does the Specialty Filter work? Can I find a therapist that focuses on a specific issue?

The specialty filter is optional. You don’t need to check any boxes to see a provider. However, fit is very important when selecting an online therapist. If you have knowledge or experience to recognize what specialties you may need.

What are the "Clients say I'm" badges?

Grow Therapy asks patients about their experience with therapists after they have had a certain number of sessions. After enough responses, we add those characteristics to their profiles to help you find the best online therapists for you. We're still working on collecting this information from all our therapists.

Why use Gender, Age, and Identities filters?

Finding a provider with a similar life experience can be beneficial because it can be easier to establish rapport and potentially be understood quicker and clearer.

What to expect during your first session?

Your first therapy session is for you and your therapist to meet each other and to ask any questions that you have about the counseling process. This is where you can expect your therapist to do the same as they will ask questions to gain insight into your specific situation. In this first session the therapist is doing their part to gather as much information so they can better assess if they are able to meet your therapeutic needs.

Depending upon your provider's specialty, you may also discuss the methods the therapist will use. For additional information on therapy methods, please visit the Grow Therapy Help Center. Some people feel nervous before their first appointment, and that is totally normal! Coming prepared with a list of questions for your therapist may help. Remember, you're taking a brave step by seeking therapy, and it is okay to be nervous as you try something new.
