My name is Isai (E-sai-EE), and I’m a Therapist based out of Southern California. I have experience working with all ages and backgrounds. My training as a social worker focuses on individual therapy, couples therapy, and family therapy. My professional interests and specialities include working with teens, young adults, older adults, family therapy, and those who struggle with anxiety, depression, marital/relationship issues, men’s issues, autism, anger management, and those with difficulty understanding/controlling big emotions. As a male therapist, I try to make my sessions feel like a conversation with a friend and offer a calm space to talk about difficult issues, a new perspective to help better understand situations, and can help you identify and understand how you might be feeling.
In our first session, I like to leave it open to whatever you need. Whether it's diving right into what's bringing you into therapy, or taking some time to get to know each other and feel comfortable in the session. I know therapy can be overwhelming and can take time, so I always like to check in with what you need and what you're looking for.
Some of my strengths include being calm, accepting, welcoming, and creating a comfortable space to discuss difficult issues. I focus on your goals and what you think is the issue and try to help you understand yourself and make changes to be the person you want to be.
Some of my professional interests and specialities include working with teens, young adults, older adults, and family issues. Issues I consider my wheelhouse are those who struggle with anxiety, depression, autism, oppositional defiant disorder, marital/relationship issues, men's issues, anger management, and complex/severe mental health issues.
In my practice I focus on integrating all of the evidence based practices into my sessions and depending on what brings you into therapy. Life in so complicated so I have found that usually I'm using tools and skills from many research based practices. With that being said I like to be flexible, work with my patients to see what they need and how I can help.
During sessions with me, I focus on building on each person's strengths in order to build confidence, independence, and resilience.
Through my previous clinical experience, I have focused a lot on CBT to help people feel less anxious, overwhelmed, and manage their worries and fears.
When working with teens and children, Art therapy and online activities are useful for children to talk about issues that they may struggle to open up about. I have experience in doing different art and play activities with kids in order to get to know them, and help them figure out goals and ways to better themselves.
I'm formally trained in DBT, and I like to incorporate it in sessions to help individuals learn to manage issues in their relationships, negative thoughts, and overwhelming feelings.
