Hello, my name is Jennifer, and I am a Marriage and Family Therapist. Over the past 17+ years I have predominately worked with children and adolescents and their families. I specialize in working with this population. My goal is not to just treat the child, but also to equip the parents to be able to help their child in the home. My goal is "parent as therapist." While I love my time each week with my client, the parents are the ones doing the real work in the home. As a parent, I know that one of the most difficult feelings is seeing your child struggling and not knowing how to help. My goal is to help the child while also training up the parents to heal the entire family. My preferred methods of treatment are CBT and PCIT as I believe they offer tools to help families quickly and effectively.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

My goal in the first session, is to really understand what you are going through. I want to get a clear picture of your struggle and what are your goals for therapy. I also want to collaborate on a treatment plan. I like to end the first session with an idea of how we are going to work together to reach your therapy goals.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I have extensive experience working with children, adolescents and their parents. I know how to feels to be a parent and can help parents to understand their children better and develop tools to feel empowered to help them.

My treatment methods

Child Parent Psychotherapy

I have worked predominately with children and families for 17+ years. I love working with children of all ages. I believe that parents are the best "therapists" or helpers for their children. My goal in treatment is to equip parents with skills and knowledge to help their children in the moment. I want to empower parents to help their children and feel confident in helping their unique child with whatever he or she may be going through. I utilize variations of PCIT or Parent Child Interaction Therapy for behavior issues and CBT or Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for other treatment concerns.

Christian Counseling

"All Healing is God's Healing". There truly is nothing new under the sun. The more I practice, the more I realize that the best principles of psychotherapy are grounded in Biblical principles. I have been practicing for 17+ years, and my clients who utilize their faith and Biblical resources with their children tend to have the best treatment outcomes. I received my education from seminary meaning that I completed all requirements for Marriage and Family Therapy from a faith based model as well as took an additional year of Bible and Theology. I was trained specifically on how to practice therapy through a Biblical lens.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

Our behaviors and emotions are linked so closely with our thoughts. If we can change our thought patterns, out behaviors and emotions will follow. I practice both CBT and TF-CBT (Trauma Focused CBT). I work with children and families to replace and change negative thought patterns to live a life with better management of emotions and behaviors.

Parent-Child Interaction (PCIT)

I worked with families for many years tackling difficult behavioral issues. I also utilize PCIT techniques with my own children.

Trauma-Focused CBT

I love working with families touched by trauma. I have helped many families (specifically children) process and release the most difficult traumas utilizing TF-CBT.
