Julian Gelshtein
Hi, I'm Julian, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in California. I work with adults navigating anxiety, relationship challenges, self-esteem, ADHD, and life transitions. My approach is warm, conversational, and collaborative.
Therapy doesn't have to feel formal or intimidating. I offer a warm, conversational space where we can explore what's weighing on you, make sense of recurring patterns, and work toward meaningful change, with room for humor and genuine human connection along the way.
I believe therapy should be a space where you can be yourself, explore what's going on beneath the surface, and feel genuinely understood along the way.
First session
Our first session is about getting to know you, understanding what brings you to therapy, and exploring what you'd like to change. I'll ask questions about your experiences, relationships, and goals, but there's no pressure to have everything figured out. My hope is that you leave feeling heard, comfortable, and optimistic about what we can work on together.
Strengths
I bring curiosity, warmth, humor, and a genuine interest in understanding you. I'm an active, engaged therapist who asks thoughtful questions, notices patterns, and isn't afraid to gently challenge you. I take our work seriously, but believe there's room for laughter and authentic human connection, too.
Ideal clients
I work with adults who feel stuck, lost, or unsure of what comes next. You may face stress, self-doubt, or pain in your close bonds. You don't need to know why or have it all worked out. We can talk, ask hard things, find new ways to cope, and make sense of what you feel, one step at a time.
Treatment methods
Attachment-based
Our relationships often shape how we see ourselves and connect with others. I help you explore how past experiences may influence your current relationships, emotional reactions, and needs, so you can build healthier, more fulfilling connections.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I use CBT to help you recognize patterns in your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors that may be keeping you stuck. Together, we'll explore how those patterns developed and find practical ways to respond differently in everyday situations.
Person-centered (Rogerian)
I believe meaningful change begins with feeling genuinely understood. I create a warm, nonjudgmental space where you can speak openly, explore difficult emotions, and move at a pace that feels right for you, while still receiving active support and thoughtful feedback.
Psychodynamic
I help you make sense of recurring patterns, including those that may have developed long before you noticed them. By understanding how past experiences influence your present, we can create room for new choices and more satisfying relationships.
