Hello! I'm a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) offering virtual therapy sessions to California residents. I received my Masters from Lamar University and have been practicing for about 4 years. I have 3 years experience working in an eating disorder residential facility, where I helped people aged 16-25 on their path towards recovery. Prior to that, I worked with people aged 16-75 for depression, anxiety, and substance use, and worked at a foster care agency with families and foster children.
In our first session together, I'll tell you a bit more about myself and then I'd love to hear from you about yourself. We'll see if our personalities fit, and you'll take mental notes to see if you could envision yourself feeling comfortable talking to me about whatever is on your mind! Then we'll make a list of everything you are struggling with and come up with a plan of how to help you feel better.
Several of my past clients have thanked me for "just being human". There are no power dynamics here! My biggest strength as a provider is striking a balance between being friendly, funny, and approachable, while also pointing out dysfunctional patterns that are holding you back, and helping you hold yourself accountable. After working with many clients who having struggled with perfectionism, family issues, depression, anxiety, and disordered eating, I have gotten good at spotting patterns and connections, and helping you take a step back and see the full picture.
I love working with young adults who are overwhelmed with the idea of their whole lives being in front of them. My niche is working with people, especially young women, whose perfectionist and productivity mindsets are becoming a roadblock. I find this often ties into the role my client plays in their family/relationships. These clients may be struggling with disordered eating, poor body image, chronically busy schedules, and an intense guilt when they rest (if they ever let themselves). If this is you, let's talk!
I have used CBT with clients for the past 4 years and have witnessed how powerful it can be for someone to move forward in life, and relieve stress, after challenging their negative thoughts. CBT isn't always easy; a main component of my therapy style includes getting you to confront your inner-bully who is holding you back from your true potential. With CBT, we will look at how your core beliefs are impacting your well-being, and we'll work together to practice treating yourself like someone you actually like!
I often use ACT with clients who are having a difficult time accepting themselves or their situation in life. It is especially useful for learning what you can and cannot control, and in turn starting to detach from what you cannot control. ACT is also helpful if you are feeling a bit lost in life, as it offers tools to help you figure out your values and highlight a new, clear path for yourself.
Humanistic therapy is an underlying in all of my sessions. It is the theory that all people have the ability and tendency toward self-actualization; or really, just becoming who they truly are and living their best life. With the humanistic method, I offer a friendly and open space that often includes humor, especially in uncomfortable moments when I may be pushing you toward new insights. You and I are equal and working together to help you figure out, and be, your authentic self.
