Hello, and welcome. I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist based in California. With more than seven years of experience working with justice-involved youth and over five years in psychiatric emergency services, I am passionate about supporting young adults and families from diverse cultural, social, and life experiences. My approach is compassionate, collaborative, and culturally responsive. I strive to create a safe and respectful space where clients feel seen, heard, and understood within the context of their unique backgrounds, identities, values, and family dynamics. Together, we work to reduce negative self-talk, build self-compassion, strengthen relationships, and develop meaningful goals that support emotional well-being and an improved quality of life.
During our first session, clients can expect a welcoming, supportive, and nonjudgmental space where we begin getting to know one another. We will discuss what brings you to therapy, your current concerns, personal strengths, and the goals you hope to achieve. I also take time to understand important aspects of your background, including family dynamics, cultural values, life experiences, and any factors that may shape your perspective and emotional well-being. The first session is also an opportunity for you to ask questions about the therapy process, my approach, and what support may look like moving forward. My goal is to help you feel heard, respected, and comfortable as we begin building a collaborative therapeutic relationship at a pace that feels right for you.
My greatest strengths as a therapist include empathy, cultural sensitivity, active listening, and the ability to build meaningful therapeutic relationships based on trust and respect. I strive to create a safe and supportive environment where clients feel comfortable expressing themselves openly and authentically. Drawing from my experience working with justice-involved youth, families, and individuals in psychiatric emergency settings, I remain calm, compassionate, and solution-focused during difficult situations. I am skilled at helping clients identify unhealthy thought patterns, develop self-compassion, improve communication, and build practical coping strategies that support long-term emotional growth and resilience. I also value meeting clients where they are, honoring their unique backgrounds, identities, and lived experiences while collaborating on realistic and meaningful goals that align with their personal values and needs.
I enjoy helping individuals and families overcome self-esteem issues, manage emotions, and cope with trauma related to abuse or violence.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
In terms of how it's used in practice, a therapist specializing in cognitive behavior treatment will work with their clients to identify negative thought patterns and behaviors and help them develop strategies to change them. These strategies may include mindfulness exercises, relaxation techniques, and cognitive restructuring, which involves replacing negative thoughts with more positive ones. I may assign homework between sessions, such as journaling or practicing relaxation exercises. I provided psychoeducation to psychiatric emergency patients at an ER for over three years. During this period, I had the opportunity to offer psychoeducation to patients who were suited for cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT).

I wanted to seek out a solution to the problems in my life. I was hesitant to start therapy at all because of how stigmatized it is, especially for male presenting people of color such as myself. Tommi completely changed my perspective on mental health counseling. Her demeanor and approach in our sessions has helped me in terms of addressing the problems I have been facing my whole life. I still have a long way to go, but now I know I am not alone on this journey thanks to Tommi.
