Hi! My name is Caitlin and I am looking forward to meeting you. I believe clients are the experts of their own lives, and take a very client-centered approach to my work, focusing on empowerment and self-determination at all times. I believe there are as many ways to heal as there are individuals, and enjoy helping each client find their path towards fulfillment in their unique life. My experience has primarily been in schools and working with gender expansive individuals and families. I have also worked in early childhood programs and have a lot of experience supporting families with children from hard places or who have experienced trauma. I believe all people and families have the potential to thrive, and enjoy finding the right supports to help clients reach their goals. As a neurodivergent, queer, adoptive parent myself, I have lived experience in all of these areas and bring this experience and understanding into the therapy space with me. I show up to every session as my authentic self and hope that that creates space for clients to do the same. I am an adoptive parent myself, so I have lived experience in this area as well.

Psychotherapy relies heavily on the rapport between therapist and client, without it growth and trust cease to exist. I work towards understanding your needs and wants in a nonjudgmental safe, supportive, and empathetic environment. I believe mental health issues are a symptom of deeper, unresolved emotional issues and childhood wounds. I work with teenagers 13+ and adults. I utilize cognitive behavioral therapy to help identify irrational thoughts and faulty thinking that are the main culprits behind anxiety and stress. I also utilize psychodynamic therapy to help uncover past issues, such as family dynamics and childhood issues. My full fee is $200 for individuals and $250 for couples, however I do work on a sliding scale as well. I see virtual clients and accept females, teens, and couples only for in person sessions.

Hi! I'm Dr. Chelsea Acker, a licensed clinical psychologist with expertise working with children and adolescents. I'm experienced with a range of concerns, but I have specialized training in treating trauma, suicidality, and early psychosis. In 2019, I graduated from the PAU-Stanford PsyD Consortium, where I trained at the Stanford School of Medicine's psychiatry department and Lucile Packard Children's Hospital's program at a local high school. I attended internship (our version of residency, more or less) at the UC Davis Medical Center, where I received world-class training in the treatment of childhood trauma and early psychosis, both separately and together. I then completed a post-doctoral fellowship at the Chicago Child Trauma Center, where I continued to build my expertise in the treatment of childhood trauma. After that, I worked at Kaiser Permanente, Oakland, for two and a half years, where I specialized in working with children and adolescents with complex, persistent symptom presentations, who had often been hospitalized multiple times for safety concerns and struggled to make progress with previous therapists.

I have worked in the mental health field for over 20 years- 14 of those as a therapist. I love my work, even when it's hard. I chose to become a Licensed Clinical Social Worker because it fits with my own holistic view of treatment. Social Work considers individual mental health through the lens of the person's environment, family situation, social connections, access to resources, financial circumstances, and the like. In addition to whatever our primary need is, our world also affects our mental health. And that needs to be considered in how we approach treatment. I began my career as a therapist at Humboldt County Behavioral Health in Eureka, CA. My years working at the county in outpatient, inpatient, addiction treatment, and crisis service programs provide a depth and breadth of experience that is hard to acquire elsewhere. I view therapy as a team effort, a relationship developed through trust and clear communication. You are the one doing the work, and my job is to support you along the way, offer guidance, education, help you feel safe, and be your cheerleader. Collaboration, discussion, and experimentation with treatment modalities are an essential part of the process. I see therapy as exciting, with lots of opportunity to learn and grow and incorporate new information and experiences. We are all so different, we will work together to make sure you are confident that your therapy is realistic and meaningful to you. Progress is achieved only if both the client and the therapist put in the work and share the load. Your healing journey may be a difficult one, but not impossible. It is an honor to be part of this journey with you.

I started helping those who are seeking to up-level their experiences and shine as their true and authentic selves in 2019. My journey first started in residential treatment facilities where I held space for those in early recovery from substance use disorders. This population ranged from men's only, women's only and LGBTQ+ Many of these individuals also struggled with anxiety, depression, trauma and eating disorders. I have also had the opportunity to work with adolescents at risk of sex trafficking. This work is extremely rewarding as the clients are at an age where they are most influential and willing. I am a deeply spiritual person and practice in the study of yoga and meditation and participate in somatic healings such as Kundalini Light Intergration (KALI) and breathworks. I am also a level two Reiki practitioner (training to become a master) and a certified personal trainer. When I am not holding space for healing, I enjoy being in the outdoors, surfing, climbing, reading and cooking nutritious and fun to eat meals. I hope to continue the journey of providing a safe space for individuals where healing can occur for years to come. I offer sessions both early in the morning (5am - 7am) and later in the evening (6pm - 9pm) to accommodate those who work nine to five or those who just prefer early morning or evening therapy sessions.

I truly believe that most people will do well when they know how to do well. It's hard to ask for help and it's hard to accept the help. We just get stuck in the quick fix, easiest option, or the least emotionally draining route. My style towards therapy is direct, relational, and authentic. I am an LCSW licensed in California and Hawaii. I provide inclusive and culturally guided processing therapy as a specialist in high or recurrent symptoms that were not changed by talk therapy. As an EMDR therapist my work centers on helping heal from the impacts of trauma while honoring the cultural, historical and relational contexts in which trauma exists. Many wounds are not only personal but also intergenerational, systemic and shaped by oppression, displacement and historical harm. Healing from anxiety and depression, putting everyone before you, is not about fixing people its about helping them reclaim the parts of themselves that trauma took away. I support clients in processing painful experiences while also reconneccting to their resilience. I enjoy working with kids, teens, parents and people who are motivated to participate in evidence based trauma therapy. My goal is to help clients develop insight into their thinking and behavioral patterns by exploring the root causes of their anxiety, depression, or trauma and identify the underlying issues contributing to their distress. This process of self-discovery can be challenging, but it is also incredibly empowering.

You might feel stuck in patterns like overthinking, anxiety, or relationship stress that are hard to turn off. Even when things look fine on the outside, it can feel exhausting trying to manage everything internally. I work with adults who want to understand these patterns and respond differently, not just cope. Our work focuses on making sense of what is happening beneath the surface while also finding practical ways to feel more clear, grounded, and in control in daily life. I integrate trauma informed care and parts work to help you build self-trust, set boundaries, and move through challenges with more clarity and confidence.

I’m a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist who specializes in helping individuals, families, and couples rewrite unhelpful narratives, reconnect with their strengths, and rediscover hope and happiness in their lives. Together, we’ll explore the feelings you’re experiencing, identify the barriers that are holding you back, and develop tools to help you cope with the challenges you’re facing.. My work is rooted in self-empowerment through a client-centered and strength-based approach. I believe our past shapes our present and we are more than capable of working toward what we want. By understanding your story, healing what’s unresolved, and planning intentionally for the future, you can move toward a more joyful, fulfilling, and authentic life. I believe a good clinician is a moldable one — someone who adapts to the person in front of them rather than fitting people into a fixed approach. My work is collaborative, insight-oriented, and grounded in the belief that you are the expert on yourself. Together, we explore the patterns, stories, and relational blueprints that have shaped how you see yourself and the world — and we work to rewrite the ones that no longer serve you. I work with individuals and couples across the lifespan, and I am proudly affirming of the LGBTQIA+, kink, and BDSM communities. I specialize in trauma, identity, depression, anxiety, relationships, and sexual health, and I bring the same nonjudgmental, culturally humble approach to every client I see. I also offer faith-integrated counseling for those who wish to incorporate spirituality into their healing. Whether you arrive ready to dive in or full of resistance — I'll meet you where you are. I am bilingual and bicultural, and welcome clients who move between both languages and worlds.

I have worked as a community based clinician for about 5 years, mainly working with youth who have been, or are currently, in the foster care system as well as on probation. My work and learning has been centered around supporting families and youth who have experienced significant trauma, grief, loss, and other impactful experiences throughout their lives. I have loved being able to be a solid object in the lives of others, and I hope to continue to provide a trusting space that invites curiosity, sadness, laughter, patience, and all the other very real human emotions we experience.

I believe that therapy can heal, but I also know that telling a stranger about your deepest pain can be a strange feeling. Perhaps you've been feeling sad, depressed or worried, and hopeless that anything in your life can change. Or maybe you aren't sure what you would even want help with. You know you feel bad, but if someone were to ask you "How can I help?", you aren't sure what you would say. These problems can feel permanent and unsolvable. After all, something feels broken and unfixable, so how could you not feel that it takes all the energy you have just to get up in the morning and go about your day? Depression or anxiety can also feel isolating, as if nobody else could possibly understand. You may have even received advice from people who you feel mean well but can't understand what you're going through. Depression and anxiety are not permanent or unfixable, and therapy can help. Imagine feeling peace of mind, and excited about life and its possibilities. It starts by learning about you and going at your pace. As a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist with over 16 years experience working with adults and teens, I've seen therapy work, and I feel lucky that I get to be part of that journey for others.

Frequently asked questions

Why filter by California rather than a city like LA?

When looking for online therapy, you can see anyone that is credentialed in California. We want you to find the best fit, therefore, Grow Therapy shows available therapists across California from San Francisco to San Diego! If you’d rather see someone in-person, you can change the filter from virtual and find a therapist near you in California.

Will my therapist take insurance?

When booking you’ll be asked to verify with your Member ID. However, if you don’t have any of the insurances available you can select cash. Our therapists will have their cost of appointment on their profile. Individual session costs will vary.

How does the Specialty Filter work? Can I find a therapist that focuses on Suicidal Ideation?

The specialty filter is optional. You don’t need to check any boxes to see a provider. However, fit is very important when selecting an online therapist. If you have knowledge or experience to recognize what specialties you may need. For example, your selected specialty, Suicidal Ideation, is filtering therapists in California that work with patients with similar concerns.

Why use Gender, Age, and Identities filters?

Finding a provider with a similar life experience can be beneficial because it can be easier to establish rapport and potentially be understood quicker and clearer.

What happens during the first therapy session?

Your first therapy session is for you and your therapist to meet each other and to ask any questions that you have about the counseling process. This is where you can expect your therapist to do the same as they will ask questions to gain insight into your specific situation. In this first session the therapist is doing their part to gather as much information so they can better assess if they are able to meet your therapeutic needs. Depending upon your provider's specialty, you may also discuss the methods the therapist will use. For additional information on therapy methods, please visit the Grow Therapy Help Center. Some people feel nervous before their first appointment, and that is totally normal! Coming prepared with a list of questions for your therapist may help. Remember, you're taking a brave step by seeking therapy, and it is okay to be nervous as you try something new.
