Licensed to practice in California and accepts 57 insurances. Specializes in Anxiety, Depression, Trauma and PTSD
I’m Steven Frank, a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) in California, now living in Seattle and working with California residents through telehealth. I’ve been licensed since 1983 and began my private practice in 1993. Before becoming a therapist, I worked in inpatient psychiatric settings as a California‑licensed Psychiatric Technician, where I gained early experience supporting people in acute emotional distress.
I think that it’s important for a person entering therapy to know what to expect from treatment. So I will take the time to really understand what someone wants from therapy and how they would like to get there. The first couple of sessions are spent with my learning about you and why you are seeking help. I’m very interested in your view, what you want from therapy. I can also let you know what I’m thinking. Whatever we end up doing will be something that you feel good about. The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions From feedback over time, I do hear from client reviews of my ability to communicate a feeling of caring and empathy,,,, especially when with someone that needs and requests help. I know that I do care about the person in front of me.
Over the last several decades, my work has focused on adults dealing with depression, anxiety, and trauma. In recent years, I’ve specialized in PTSD treatment and EMDR, helping clients process overwhelming experiences and regain a sense of stability and safety. My commitment to this work is shaped not only by professional training but also by personal experience. In 1972, I went through a period of severe depression and anxiety that led to hospitalization. It was a difficult time, but it taught me something essential: what these experiences feel like from the inside. That understanding has stayed with me throughout my career and continues to guide how I show up with clients.
I want to be of help for those who have experienced trauma in their lives. For years it has been of source of much satisfaction to see positive change in others. I've learned a lot as a result of my own experiences as a young adult has also made a big difference in how I perform as a therapist . The effects of trauma can originate from a one time incident (e.g. a car accident), It can begin in families that can be abusive in ways. This kind of mistreatment can occur over and over again, sometimes for years.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
Some clients come to me wanting help untangling the day‑to‑day thoughts and reactions that keep them stuck. Trauma doesn’t just live in memories — it shows up in the way you interpret situations, talk to yourself, and respond to stress. When that’s the case, I often integrate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy in a way that feels practical and not overly clinical. CBT with me isn’t about “thinking positive” or memorizing worksheets. It’s about slowing down enough to notice the patterns that keep repeating — the self‑blame, the fear of conflict, the urge to shut down — and learning how to respond differently. We look at what’s happening in real time, in your actual life, and build tools you can use outside of session.
EMDR
Many of the people who find their way to me are carrying experiences that still feel “too much” — memories that show up uninvited, a nervous system that won’t settle, or a sense of being stuck in patterns they can’t think their way out of. If you’ve been trying to manage on your own and it’s not getting easier, you’re not alone. Trauma has a way of lingering in the body even when life looks “fine” on the outside. My work centers on trauma and Post‑Traumatic Stress Disorder, including the quieter forms of trauma that come from chronic stress, childhood experiences, or relationships that left lasting impact. I’m trained and certified in EMDR, a method recognized by insurance companies and the American Psychiatric Association. More importantly, it’s a method that helps people move through stuck places in a way that feels structured, safe, and grounded.

Steven listens and asks good questions. The conversation flowed naturally and I could tell he cares. This was my first appointment and I look forward to working with him.

Asks the right questions and really digs. You just have to be open and honest to let him do his job.

This is my second session with Steve and an excellent fit. He’s compassionate about my issues, smart, yet challenges me about being realistic about the path forward, Ten stars.
