With a strong background in mindfulness and yoga, I believe in the transformative power of integrating mind-body practices to promote healing and resilience. Greetings! My name is Leslie Bartholomew and I am excited to get to know you and help support your road to healing and change. Although I have achieved licensure fairly recently, I have about 14 years of therapeutic experience in a vast array of populations (individuals, teens, children, young adults, couples, foster youth, unaccompanied minors and migrant families). My passion derives from providing a safe and accepting environment to prepare clients to undergo healing and achieve a full and balanced life. I particularly enjoy giving back to the Latino community which I am a part of and an advocate for equality and a world free from discrimination and abundance of acceptance. My goal is to help you feel seen, heard, and empowered to reach your personal goals.

I have 5 years of professional experience as an individual therapist, family therapist and clinical case manager. I have a school counseling credential and experience working with middle school through 12th grade students, in public schools and young adults who transition into adulthood (TAY). My expertise is helping reduce maladaptive behaviors, anxiety, stress, depression, family conflict, coaching parents, increasing motivation, building a healthy self-esteem, and being self-efficient. I believe life is suffering and the end of suffering. My clinical objective is to build a safe space for you to gain insight, build self-awareness, and provide compassion to feel liberated. Therapy helps individuals recognize the roots of their suffering, let go of attachment, and develop mindfulness. While ultimate freedom lies in awakening, worldly tools like therapy can support the path by helping individuals heal, grow, and act with greater clarity, compassion, and responsibility.

I am a licensed clinical social worker located in Oakland, California. I graduated with a Master’s from Smith College School for Social Work (Northampton, MA), with a focus on psychodynamic and attachment theories. Over the last 10+ years, my clinical work has mostly been in community mental health focused on supporting young children and families recovering from, or still living through, trauma. This work has highlighted and confirmed for me the impact of early childhood experiences and the ripple effect that they have in our lives. My work is trauma-informed, culturally responsive and liberatory in nature. Depending on the unique needs of each person with whom I work, I blend attachment and psychodynamic theories, somatic practices, my own sense of playfulness and an orientation towards the inherent wisdom in each of us and the natural world of which we are a part. I bring with me years of experience working with folks impacted by both big “T” Traumas as well as little “t” traumas. Regardless of what you’ve experienced in your life up to this point, I would love to walk with you as you forge your path now. In the present moment. As a queer, white, cis-woman committed to anti-racism and anti-oppression, I love working with folks whose identities differ from my own and those with whom I experience identity overlap. Ultimately, a trusting relationship with a therapist is one of the most significant predictors for healing and change. I realize that your trust in me may be informed by various elements of my lived experience. I am absolutely open to exploring this together to see if we are a good fit. Let’s schedule a consultation and see how it feels.

Hello! I'm a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapy based in California. I have been a practicing clinician for 5 years and I've worked in the Mental Health field for a total of 11 years. My approach is eclectic; I work primarily from a modern Psychodynamic Therapy approach and implement Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) strategies. I believe that by ‘making the unconscious, conscious’ and better understanding the “why” we can then take actionable steps to create positive change. I believe we all have the essential tools within ourselves needed to build a better and safer space, a place where we can flourish into the people we always thought we could be. At times, we may find ourselves feeling lost in the midst of our daily functions, perhaps even feeling hopeless or chaotic. As an empathic and non-judgmental listener, I am up for the task of helping you uncover those tools. Let’s get you there. You are your own greatest strength.

I hold space to process through childhood abuse and other adverse childhood experiences, to explore on a deeper level how one's childhood impacts present day. What childhood wounds are manifesting in ways that no longer serve you? As an adult child-survivor, I hold a deep passion for those who have made the vulnerable choice to heal from the pains of their childhood. One life chapter at a time. Remember: The trauma that happened to you is not your fault, but what a gift to give yourself to lean into the responsibility of healing from it. Inner-Child Work framework includes: Narrative sharing, trauma and attachment work, CBT, ACT, experience validation, the practice of letting go, the practice of reclaiming, and accountability work.

Search therapists by insurance

Frequently asked questions

Why filter by California rather than a city like LA?

When looking for online therapy, you can see anyone that is credentialed in the state. We want you to find the best fit, therefore, Grow Therapy shows available therapists across California from San Francisco to San Diego! If you’d rather see someone in-person, you can change the filter from virtual and find a therapist near you in California.

Will my therapist take insurance?

When booking you’ll be asked to verify with your Member ID. However, if you don’t have any of the insurances available you can select cash. Our therapists will have their cost of appointment on their profile. Individual session costs will vary.

How does the Specialty Filter work? Can I find a therapist that focuses on Foster Care/Adoption?

The specialty filter is optional. You don’t need to check any boxes to see a provider. However, fit is very important when selecting an online therapist. If you have knowledge or experience to recognize what specialties you may need. For example, your selected specialty, Foster Care/Adoption, is filtering therapists in California that work with patients with similar concerns.

Why use Gender, Age, and Identities filters?

Finding a provider with a similar life experience can be beneficial because it can be easier to establish rapport and potentially be understood quicker and clearer.

What to expect during your first session?

Your first therapy session is for you and your therapist to meet each other and to ask any questions that you have about the counseling process. This is where you can expect your therapist to do the same as they will ask questions to gain insight into your specific situation. In this first session the therapist is doing their part to gather as much information so they can better assess if they are able to meet your therapeutic needs.

Depending upon your provider's specialty, you may also discuss the methods the therapist will use. For additional information on therapy methods, please visit the Grow Therapy Help Center. Some people feel nervous before their first appointment, and that is totally normal! Coming prepared with a list of questions for your therapist may help. Remember, you're taking a brave step by seeking therapy, and it is okay to be nervous as you try something new.
