My name is Andrea Perkins, and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) with over 20 years of experience in social services. I hold a master’s degree in social work from California State University Stanislaus. Throughout my career, I’ve had the opportunity to work with diverse populations, including individuals from various socio-economic, racial, and ethnic backgrounds, as well as LGBTQIA+ clients, foster children, and families impacted by the child welfare system. I have also worked within the Child Welfare System of Care, supporting families through complex challenges. Additionally, I have provided support to patients and families navigating medical issues, disabilities, grief, loss, and end-of-life experiences in hospital settings as a medical social worker. I have worked with individuals who face challenges such as anxiety, depression, gender identity, sexual orientation, self-esteem issues, life transitions, family conflicts, trauma, and racial trauma. Additionally, I’ve had the honor of helping college students navigate their transition into young adulthood. I use a humanistic, client-centered approach that emphasizes authenticity, warmth, humor, and unconditional positive regard. I believe in building a non-judgmental, safe, and affirming environment where healing can thrive. I believe it is important that each client feels respected and empowered to make positive changes in their lives, because you are the expert in your life. I am passionate about providing an affirming, safe and nurturing environment where individuals who identify with the LGBTQIA+ , and BIPOC community, feel seen and heard; where the focus is on their healing and success. My therapeutic approach is grounded in a variety of modalities, including Client-Centered Therapy, Strength-Based Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and trauma-informed care. I am dedicated to supporting you on your journey of healing and growth.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

In my work as a therapist, I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help clients explore and shift the thoughts and beliefs that may be contributing to their emotional struggles. Often, the way we think about ourselves or the world around us can create patterns of anxiety, depression, or stress. Through CBT, I work with clients to identify these patterns and understand how their thoughts influence their feelings and behaviors.

Culturally Sensitive Therapy

In my practice, cultural humility is at the core of how I engage with clients. I recognize that each person’s identity is shaped by cultural, societal, and personal experiences. I honor and respect your unique background, values and experiences I approach therapy with an open mind and a deep understanding of how culture influences mental health, behavior, and coping mechanisms. This means I take the time to learn about your cultural context and incorporate that understanding into our work together. Whether it’s recognizing the importance of family dynamics, spirituality, language, or community connections, I aim to create an environment where you feel comfortable exploring your identity and experiences. In addition, I’m mindful of cultural factors that may affect how trauma is experienced and processed. I use interventions that are not only rooted in clinical best practices but are also informed by your cultural perspective, ensuring that our work together is relevant, empowering, and meaningful to you.

Solution Focused Brief Treatment

I use Solution-Focused Therapy to help clients build on their strengths and focus on finding practical solutions to their challenges. By emphasizing what’s working and setting achievable goals, we create a positive, forward-focused approach that fosters hope and encourages meaningful change.

Strength-Based

I use Strength-Based Therapy to focus on identifying and building upon your strengths, resources, and resilience. Together, we’ll explore what you’re already doing well, helping you tap into your inner strengths to overcome challenges and achieve your goals with confidence and empowerment

Humanistic

In my practice, I use a humanistic approach to therapy, which centers on your unique experiences and potential for growth. I prioritize empathy, authenticity, and unconditional positive regard, with the intention of creating a safe space where you feel valued and understood as we work together to explore accomplish your goals and healing.
