Marie Patterson
My name is Marie Patterson and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) with 10 years of experience helping people navigate trauma, grief, depression, and anxiety. I have extensive experience as a social worker and in the education system supporting children, adolescence, and young adults although this means that I have spent a lot of time supporting adults, parents, and caregivers as well. I use an integrative, person-centered approach while my clinical work draws from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral (TF-CBT) therapy, Solution-Focused, mindfulness, play therapy, and creative expression. I view therapy as a collaborative process where we can work together to explore difficult emotions, develop self-awareness, and build tools for communication and self-empowerment. On a personal note, I am a mother of two young children navigating the joys and challenges of parenthood. I enjoy spending as much time as I can outside, hiking, doing yoga, working out, reading and baking.
First session
During our first session, we are going to get to know each other. We will talk about what made you decide to seek therapy and what you hope to get out of this process. We are going to see if we are a good fit for each other. You will be able to ask me any questions about the process and my experience as well.
Strengths
As a therapist, it is important to me that I create a safe, non judgmental environment where individuals feel comfortable sharing openly. I do this by maintaining a calm, warm, and respectful presence and actively listening and engaging with clients. I work collaboratively with clients on what is important to them and meet them where they are at.

Treatment methods
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
This type of treatment can be helpful when we are stuck in a negative thoughts and having trouble moving through those thoughts and feelings. This treatment is about changing how we think, how we feel, and our actions.
Trauma-Focused CBT
This type of treatment is similar to CBT but is centered around a traumatic event that is causing distress or other symptoms in your life.
Solution Focused Brief Treatment
This type of treatment is centered around solving a problem. This is a strengths based approach and shorter period of time in therapy. There are many great reflective questions about understanding the problem, when the problem comes up, what has already been done to solve the problem and builds on the client's strengths and resources.
