Hi. I am the daughter of immigrants which motivated me to study Multicultural community based psychology. I have worked in many different settings from community mental health to private practice. Currently I am the director of a consultation unit for youth and young adults in the foster care system. I really enjoy working with people on how to maximize their potential to create happier lives; sometimes this is achieved through more traditional therapy while other times this may require life coaching. I do not believe that therapy needs to be a continuous life long process, but rather a process individuals move in and out of at different stages of their lives.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In the first session, we will discuss some of the therapy process. I want to know whether or not you have ever been in therapy and what motivated you to seek out therapy at this particular moment. I will ask you questions and give you the space to tell me what you believe you need. We will then begin to put together a plan to address your concerns and determine if we are a good fit together.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

After working in this field for many years, in a variety of settings with a large array of individuals, I have developed my abilities to listen and meet my clients where they are. Not everyone needs the same treatment plan, therefore I pride myself on being flexible and pivoting when necessary. I will not try to fit you into my therapy box, but instead work with you to determine what your therapy path will involve.

Describe the client(s) you are best positioned to serve.

I really enjoy working with people who are learning to "adult." This includes people who are struggling with what they want to do with their lives and how to be better prepared for life. I love the questions "Who am I?" and "Where do I go from here?" I also like to work with families who may be in need of advocacy to navigate certain systems, i.e. education or child welfare.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I have used CBT in a variety of settings and with different age groups. It allows for active engagement not only for the client but for the relationship between therapist and client. It gives a framework to treatment and also helps guide the sessions to be more focused and often time limited.

Psychoeducation

I believe that therapy is a learning experience and therefore requires some teaching. Everyone, including the therapist, has to be open to learning in order to have a positive experience with therapy. Learning about our emotions and how we respond to them will help us develop a better sense of who we are and to understand our own needs.

Forensic Psychology

I do have experience in Juvenile Forensics and with children who are found incompetent to stand trial. I testify in court on a regular basis as to the needs of children in the delinquency system.

Psychodynamic

I do like to combine some Psychodynamic principles into my work so that people better understand where some of their behavior patterns may stem from. I feel that no one method will always be exactly right for all people and therefore I will adjust accordingly.
