I bring warmth, compassion and extensive experience to help couples, individuals, and families during vulnerable times. My style is collaborative and grounded in effective practices that calm anxiety, strengthen relationships and foster communication and connection. I create a safe and nonjudgmental space to attune and meet clients where they are every step of the way. A few of my specialties include relationship therapy, anxiety, depression, developmental trauma, PTSD, parenting, addiction, pregnancy, postpartum, grief, anger, relationships, and bicultural families.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first session together, we'll start with brief introductions, then dive into the specific challenges that bring you to therapy and begin to understand what has happened in your life and relationships that has led to the accumulation of your distress. Typically, you will learn at least one skill that can relieve your distress in the moment. We may begin to create a tailored plan for therapy or continue discussing the plan into the next couple of sessions.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

My strengths as a therapist are my personal qualities of warmth, compassion and curiosity, more than a decade of clinical experience collaborating with clients to facilitate meaningful change, and my ability to be with people in their experience and guide their process through the use of effective interventions. I also deeply believe in the potential in everyone, and gladly meet clients where they are every step of the way.

My treatment methods

Acceptance and commitment (ACT)

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy is one of the pillars of my therapeutic approach. I introduce components of ACT to clients when acceptance, mindfulness, values clarification and commitment to action may be helpful as methods of promoting psychological flexibility and letting go of negative self beliefs that interfere with living the life you envision.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is another pillar of my therapeutic approach. The components of CBT are particularly helpful for understanding our thinking patterns and its relationship to feelings and behaviors. We’ll identify and work to understand the patterns that are no longer serving you, and introduce interventions that may serve you better. Practicing CBT exercises, such as challenging distorted thoughts, can be helpful in reducing anxiety, depression and a host of other conditions as well as improve self-esteem and overall well-being.

Couples Counseling

Couples typically enter therapy when repeated patterns of difficulties and conflicts are causing problems in the relationship. I help create a safe space where both partners can give voice to their perspective and feel understood. Through ongoing reflection and practice, the couple moves toward mutual understanding, more effective communication and develops greater capacity for connection and empathy i.e. the couple develops the skills for an emotionally intelligent relationship. I may interweave effective interventions to support the development of emotional regulation and communication skills from approaches such as the Gottman Method of Relationship Therapy, Nonviolent Communication, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

Dialectical Behavioral Therapy is another pillar of my therapeutic practice. DBT is particularly effective, when clients are ready, in promoting the skills development of emotional regulation, mindfulness practice, interpersonal effectiveness, and distress tolerance.

EMDR

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing is one of my specialties. It is particularly effective for clients who have experienced traumatic events as adults or developmental trauma during childhood. EMDR is also effective in treating anxiety, depression, phobias, and complicated grief. When clients are ready, we discuss the EMDR protocol, which entails a few structured elements. This approach aims to reprocess improperly stored memories, and replace negative core beliefs with more positive, realistic ones, integrating them into a more adaptive and less distressing form.
