I am Joe Henson, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. I consider myself a Bowen Family Therapist that has also utilizes CBT, DBT, and Solution focused treatment. I have extensive history working with children, teens, and young adults who are are just starting to figure out independent living. My style of therapy best serves those that want to both understand how their challenges and goals came to be as well as have a strong game plan to tackle those challenges for a meaningful change.
From the first session, I target family patterns that have been taught to each individual and will construct a genogram (family tree with relational components drawn in). From there we adress the conflict or challenges present in the individual or families life, incorporating CBT and DBT practices to best help the client in the process of change to accomplish their goals.
My greatest strength is helping my clients grow in the direction they desire. I work alongside each client to adress the goals they identify and want to work on. Together we focus on a strength based approach to best help the individual or family to best meet the goals of the clients.
I have worked for the past 5 years with teens, young adults, early marriages, and families struggling with parenting and communication. I have extensive experience addressing teenager with anxiety, depression, substance use, and more. Further, I am well suited to assist with early marital conflict and assisting parents with addressing mental health and substance use concerns with their children alongside increasing family communication.
I utilize Bowen Family therapy to best assist the individuals and family as a whole. With this style of approach, I target the generational patterns of thought and behavior that either are assisting the individual or working against them. With this, we work together as a team to then help the individual or family accomplish the goals and change they seek in their life.
With CBT we target the automatic thoughts that lead to anxiety, depression, substance use, or other concerns and help the client address their concerns.
With this approach, the goal is to focus on support and structure to best support each client. I utilize this method to best have the client gain insight into the strengths they have and utilize them in their day to day. This focus is on self awareness and encouragement to best support the needs of my clients.
