I am a licensed MFT clinician in California with 6 years of eclectic psychotherapy work experience. I thrive on collaborating/working with clients to help them process and manage stress, symptoms of anxiety and depression, a distorted sense of self, trauma from individual/familial abuse as well as the systemic factors therein, schizophrenia spectrum challenges/symptoms, and personality disorders (e.g., antisocial personality disorder and borderline personality disorder). I believe in treating everyone with respect, sensitivity, and compassion while maintaining strong/healthy boundaries. I will tailor our dialogue and treatment plan to meet your unique and specific needs as we work through what you desire to focus on. I have worked with a variety of clients in different mental health organizations and schools throughout the San Francisco Bay Area and Los Angeles County. I am comfortable and have experience working with trauma-related stress disorders, major depression, personality disorders (e.g., borderline personality), isolation/loneliness, suicidal thoughts, and schizophrenia spectrum disorders/symptoms. I treat both adults and older teens (18 and over) through individual psychotherapy. I believe in treating everyone with emotional sensitivity while maintaining strong clinical/ethical boundaries. However, gentle confrontations may be needed as a way to bring awareness to certain aspects of the work, though I am mostly collaborative in working with my client's areas of concern, which they want to focus on during sessions. I ask (Socratic) questions based on therapeutic timing and will provide evidence-based psychoeducation when needed, always moving the session with clinical intuition as the process unfolds.

I have worked in the social service field for over 15 years as a social worker, clinician and in administration. I enjoy giving, sharing, working in the community, and connecting individuals to essential resources and empowering them towards growth, progress and self-sufficiency. My hope and objectives are to inspire others to keep going despite life’s challenges and difficult experiences. Considering personal experiences with setbacks and health challenges, obtaining an education and becoming a Licensed Clinical Social Worker was not destined for me, however, it became obtainable and has been a great achievement. My all-time driven mottos are: "If I can, you can” and "carpe diem" seize the day as tomorrow is not promised. Therefore, I strive to reach back and help others thrive and live life full out. I am inspired by the teachings of Brene Brown who states …” we can have courage or we can have comfort, but we cannot have both…courage starts with showing up and letting ourselves be seen.” And I remain motivated by the late great Maya Angelou as she declares, “Still I Rise” …. “What you’re supposed to do when you don’t like a thing is change it. If you can’t change it, change the way you think about it” [and] “nothing will work unless you do.”

My interest in the field of mental health began at a young age when I witnessed the way people sought my mother, a spiritual individual, for comfort and solace. These experiences imbued in me the value of community, empathy, and service to others. As a therapist, I am able to provide patients with the treatment and tools necessary to navigate difficult emotions. It is an honor to be able to hold a safe space for patients to be vulnerable, safe, and to experience healing. My philosophy of care is to work alongside my patients while creating an empathic, non-judgmental, and safe space. Patients will find that I provide a warm, authentic, and respectful approach. I believe in working collaboratively with patients to identify and develop the tools necessary for patients to live more fulfilling lives.

Through a trauma-informed and culturally responsive lens, I help you bring compassion and understanding to these parts of yourself, so that healing can unfold where it once felt impossible. Hi, I'm Amani! Living in the moment means letting go of the past & not waiting for the future. It means living your life consciously, aware that each moment you breathe is a gift." -Oprah W. I am a witness to the family stories of trauma, racism, environmental & social injustices that negatively impact family structures. This experience influenced my desire to become a clinician to support the healing process of individuals subject to historical life events & current circumstances which circumvent individuals from accessing their full potentials & their capacity to influence their lives with efficacy. With longevity in clinical practice, I work with individuals facing life transitions, grief & loss, depression, anxiety, trauma & other issues that stymie hope and joy, desires & dreams; & life goals. Adjusting & adapting to life’s moments & experiences can be both fulfilling & challenging. I have over 20 years of counseling experience working with diverse individuals from young children to seniors. I specialize in treating depression, anxiety, trauma, grief, transitions, self destructive behaviors, codependency among others, so that you can overcome the blocks that keep you from living the life you deserve. I use an integrated and collaborative approach created to meet the unique needs of each individual while establishing a safe environment conducive to achieving goals, and moving forward. I believe that true change happens when people are given the support they need in order to draw upon their own strengths to realize their full potential. I am very passionate about the work I do, compassionate, and believe that with dedication and commitment, you can live the fulfilling life you know is awaiting you. A few comments former clients have said about me and our work together include; “I’ve worked with a number of therapists before, but you are the only one that I felt truly cared.” “I can't believe that after 8 years of depression and PTSD, I actually feel great after only 6 months! If you would have asked me if this were possible a couple years ago, I would have said absolutely not!” I have worked with both short-term and long-term interventions and in diverse settings. My goal is your goal and together, you can achieve what you may have thought, or think, is unachievable. It is possible to not only overcome obstacles, but thrive and live a happy life.

Hello. I am a California Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor that is living in Florida. I am also licensed in Florida and Idaho. I have worked in the mental health field in various roles since 2010. My desire to work with clients stems from always having a desire to help those suffering. I believe that mental health treatment needs to be uniquely individualized to meet the unique needs of each person. This may mean treatment that is culturally sensitive, or just meets the person where they are at regarding their motivation for change.

Frequently asked questions

Why filter by California rather than a city like LA?

When looking for online therapy, you can see anyone that is credentialed in the state. We want you to find the best fit, therefore, Grow Therapy shows available therapists across California from San Francisco to San Diego! If you’d rather see someone in-person, you can change the filter from virtual and find a therapist near you in California.

Will my therapist take insurance?

When booking you’ll be asked to verify with your Member ID. However, if you don’t have any of the insurances available you can select cash. Our therapists will have their cost of appointment on their profile. Individual session costs will vary.

How does the Specialty Filter work? Can I find a therapist that focuses on Racism?

The specialty filter is optional. You don’t need to check any boxes to see a provider. However, fit is very important when selecting an online therapist. If you have knowledge or experience to recognize what specialties you may need. For example, your selected specialty, Racism, is filtering therapists in California that work with patients with similar concerns.

Why use Gender, Age, and Identities filters?

Finding a provider with a similar life experience can be beneficial because it can be easier to establish rapport and potentially be understood quicker and clearer.

What to expect during your first session?

Your first therapy session is for you and your therapist to meet each other and to ask any questions that you have about the counseling process. This is where you can expect your therapist to do the same as they will ask questions to gain insight into your specific situation. In this first session the therapist is doing their part to gather as much information so they can better assess if they are able to meet your therapeutic needs.

Depending upon your provider's specialty, you may also discuss the methods the therapist will use. For additional information on therapy methods, please visit the Grow Therapy Help Center. Some people feel nervous before their first appointment, and that is totally normal! Coming prepared with a list of questions for your therapist may help. Remember, you're taking a brave step by seeking therapy, and it is okay to be nervous as you try something new.
