Hi, I'm Amani! Living in the moment means letting go of the past & not waiting for the future. It means living your life consciously, aware that each moment you breathe is a gift." -Oprah W. I am a witness to the family stories of trauma, racism, environmental & social injustices that negatively impact family structures. This experience influenced my desire to become a clinician to support the healing process of individuals subject to historical life events & current circumstances which circumvent individuals from accessing their full potentials & their capacity to influence their lives with efficacy. With longevity in clinical practice, I work with individuals facing life transitions, grief & loss, depression, anxiety, trauma & other issues that stymie hope and joy, desires & dreams; & life goals. Adjusting & adapting to life’s moments & experiences can be both fulfilling & challenging. As a collaborative partner, I will assist in exploring and facing the trials that hinder moving to the next chapter of one’s life. By employing evidenced-based practices and interventions that are tailored to meet individual needs, we write that next chapter.

I have worked in the social service field for over 15 years as a social worker, clinician and in administration. I enjoy giving, sharing, working in the community, and connecting individuals to essential resources and empowering them towards growth, progress and self-sufficiency. My hope and objectives are to inspire others to keep going despite life’s challenges and difficult experiences. Considering personal experiences with setbacks and health challenges, obtaining an education and becoming a Licensed Clinical Social Worker was not destined for me, however, it became obtainable and has been a great achievement. My all-time driven mottos are: "If I can, you can” and "carpe diem" seize the day as tomorrow is not promised. Therefore, I strive to reach back and help others thrive and live life full out. I am inspired by the teachings of Brene Brown who states …” we can have courage or we can have comfort, but we cannot have both…courage starts with showing up and letting ourselves be seen.” And I remain motivated by the late great Maya Angelou as she declares, “Still I Rise” …. “What you’re supposed to do when you don’t like a thing is change it. If you can’t change it, change the way you think about it” [and] “nothing will work unless you do.”

My interest in the field of mental health began at a young age when I witnessed the way people sought my mother, a spiritual individual, for comfort and solace. These experiences imbued in me the value of community, empathy, and service to others. As a therapist, I am able to provide patients with the treatment and tools necessary to navigate difficult emotions. It is an honor to be able to hold a safe space for patients to be vulnerable, safe, and to experience healing. My philosophy of care is to work alongside my patients while creating an empathic, non-judgmental, and safe space. Patients will find that I provide a warm, authentic, and respectful approach. I believe in working collaboratively with patients to identify and develop the tools necessary for patients to live more fulfilling lives.

Throughout my career, I’ve worked closely with individuals and families navigating some of life’s most challenging moments—chronic illness, hospitalization, loss, and major life transitions. My background in healthcare has given me a unique perspective on the connection between physical and emotional well-being. I understand how medical issues can impact mental health, relationships, and overall quality of life. I’ve supported patients and families through grief, anxiety, depression, caregiving stress, and adjustment to new diagnoses, and I bring that same thoughtful approach to therapy. When working with clients, I offer a warm, collaborative space where you can explore your experiences, build resilience, and move toward healing. Whether you’re coping with health-related stress, life transitions, or seeking greater emotional balance, I’m here to walk with you at your pace. Starting therapy can feel like a big step. In therapy, my goal is to help clients connect unapologetically to their most authentic selves by providing a non-judgemental space to process their inner thoughts and lived experiences. I believe therapy is a sacred space where deep healing can happen. Everyone deserves their own unique healing journey that leads to more joy, pleasure, and gentleness in our lives. I completed my Master’s in social work at California State University, Long Beach. Currently, I work as a school social worker. I often utilize; relational therapy, strength-based therapy, and feminist therapy theories in my practice centering the client’s experience in the work we do together. I am a compassionate, collective liberationist-oriented psychotherapist. I pull from politically leftist, critical psychology as well as humanistic and existentialist frameworks. I center marginalized persons, including BIPOC and LGBTQIA persons. I am a former vanlifer and a world traveler. I am a mom to an adult son; I've been coupled and married for almost two decades to the same woman (and we're still in love!). Finally, I love Atlanta-style, rhythm dance-skating on quads! I believe that if you are ready to start to find and embrace your authentic self, you can create a significant transformation in your life. If you think we'd be a good fit, I'd love to help you. As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) with over 25 years of experience, I’m here to help you uncover the deeper causes of your challenges and guide you toward meaningful, lasting change. Life brings many stressors that can affect your ability to cope — mentally, emotionally, and even physically. In our work together, whether individually or in a group setting, I take a holistic approach that supports your well-being in mind, body, and spirit. My practice is client-centered and rooted in mindfulness. Together, we’ll gently explore what may be keeping you stuck — whether it’s unresolved trauma, painful memories, life transitions, stress, anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, or addiction. With compassionate support and practical tools, we’ll work to restore your sense of balance, build resilience, and help you reconnect with your full potential.

If you're looking to work with a bicultural, multilingual person of color who values holistic and a decolonized approach then you have come to the right place. My biggest priority in therapy is to provide a safe and non-judgmental space for you to speak freely and to decide if we are a good fit. I believe that you are the expert and that healing and growth are best achieved through breaking generational patterns, self reflection, and strengthening the skills to navigate the systems in which we live. I take a relational and reflective based approach to treatment, center your voice, and guide a process of co-creating your healing journey. I encourage clients to explore their inner worlds and express themselves authentically; while also establishing solid supports, and grounding awareness within the context of their lives. Whether you are a solo-parent/co-parent, like myself, or a young adult struggling in this crazy world that we live that denies us the space to just slow down and think, let's connect and begin the healing journey. Having worked with primarily Black, Latina/x, Indigenous, Women of Color (BIPOC) and other historically marginalized communities has ignited my passion to continue supporting marginalized and oppressed communities to address depression, anxiety, and trauma. With a specific focus on solo parents or parents who were coparenting I supported parents with connecting more with their child or partner, navigating concerns about a child's temperament or development, trauma, depression and anxiety. I have also supported clients with multiple transitions such as parent separation or divorce as well as loss and grief.

Search therapists by insurance

Frequently asked questions

Why filter by California rather than a city like LA?

When looking for online therapy, you can see anyone that is credentialed in the state. We want you to find the best fit, therefore, Grow Therapy shows available therapists across California from San Francisco to San Diego! If you’d rather see someone in-person, you can change the filter from virtual and find a therapist near you in California.

Will my therapist take insurance?

When booking you’ll be asked to verify with your Member ID. However, if you don’t have any of the insurances available you can select cash. Our therapists will have their cost of appointment on their profile. Individual session costs will vary.

How does the Specialty Filter work? Can I find a therapist that focuses on Racism?

The specialty filter is optional. You don’t need to check any boxes to see a provider. However, fit is very important when selecting an online therapist. If you have knowledge or experience to recognize what specialties you may need. For example, your selected specialty, Racism, is filtering therapists in California that work with patients with similar concerns.

Why use Gender, Age, and Identities filters?

Finding a provider with a similar life experience can be beneficial because it can be easier to establish rapport and potentially be understood quicker and clearer.

What to expect during your first session?

Your first therapy session is for you and your therapist to meet each other and to ask any questions that you have about the counseling process. This is where you can expect your therapist to do the same as they will ask questions to gain insight into your specific situation. In this first session the therapist is doing their part to gather as much information so they can better assess if they are able to meet your therapeutic needs.

Depending upon your provider's specialty, you may also discuss the methods the therapist will use. For additional information on therapy methods, please visit the Grow Therapy Help Center. Some people feel nervous before their first appointment, and that is totally normal! Coming prepared with a list of questions for your therapist may help. Remember, you're taking a brave step by seeking therapy, and it is okay to be nervous as you try something new.
