Hi ! I'm Jojo and thank you for taking the time to read this! I'm an Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in California and I work with adults. I'd like to acknowledge how therapy can be overwhelming, intimidating and at times tiring, so I appreciate you being here. I prioritize working collaboratively with my clients, meaning we'll work together to set an environment that is supportive and emotionally safe. I am motivated by Social Justice and I strive to ensure that my clients have a place in this world where their voices are being heard. My approach mostly surrounds Liberation Psychology, Decolonizing and Destigmatizing Mental Health Care, Person- Centered, Identity & Emotion Focused while providing Culturally safe and sensitive care, along with Gender Affirming Therapy Practices.
Our first session we'll discuss how I can help support you and what brought you to therapy. I will be happy to answer any questions or concerns you may have regarding anything about therapeutic process itself. I'll ask questions about your story including your background, your struggles, your experience with therapy and your hopes. We'll set a good foundation on how to move forward.
Some of my strengths is having the capacity to listen and deeply understand my clients struggles and concerns. I carry the patience to meet my client where their at in their healing journey and build trust. I intentionally integrate both tools I learned and authentic interpersonal skills. Sharing laughs with my clients, are one of my favorite moments.
My passion involves collaborating and supporting individuals who's identity is part of a marginalized group. Supporting LGBTQIA+ and BIPOC individuals who have and continue to be impacted by an oppressive systems and acknowledge the roots of their trauma. I provide a space for couples to unpack deeper discussions about what is occurring in their dynamics and collaborating on different ways to communicate. I work with individuals to unpack their past, better their communication, increase their coping skills and build their emotional vocabulary. I also work with individuals who struggle with codependency, peer and family relationships, self esteem, life transitions and anxiety.
Feminist
To focus and acknowledge the ongoing challenges that individuals face regarding bias, stereotyping, oppression, discrimination, and other factors, and how those stressors can negatively affect their mental health. Providing support to an individual’s social and cultural identity, as well as the political environment in which we live. Acknowledging how system issues impact our bodies, our thoughts about ourselves and our relationships.
Gender-affirming therapy
To unpack, acknowledge, support and AFFIRM the individuals gender identity and gender journey. Support queer individuals who have and continue to encounter messages and behaviors that tell them that they are less than. Hostile messages and policies that discourage the beauty of gender diversity and continued repeated trauma with physical and psychological effects. To collaborate on the best ways to support decisions about your body, mental health and relationships.
Trauma Informed Care
Together we will unpack, acknowledge and understand how traumatic experiences impacts our mental and emotional well-being, daily routines and relationships. Providing support, skills and strategies to process and manage emotions and memories tied to traumatic experiences. Together we'll acknowledge when and where trauma appears in the body.
Attachment-based
In session we will revisit parts of your past and how it has shaped your identity, relationship and beliefs about your own self. We will unpacked your relationships with primary caregivers and loved ones and how impacts your ability to navigating emotional and physical relationships as an adult. Reflecting on early/ childhood attachments can shed light into relationship patterns, self awareness and emotional responses. We will also understand how childhood experiences, like neglect, loss, or inconsistency, can affect your relationships as adults.
