About me

Welcome! I’m Melika Biglarpour-Watson, LMFT and I’m dedicated to supporting individuals and couples through life’s challenges with compassion and cultural awareness. My practice is grounded in the belief that healing begins when we feel seen and heard, not just for our struggles, but for the fullness of who we are. I specialize in working with anxiety, trauma, relationship challenges, and sexual and intimacy concerns. I have a passion for supporting immigrants, adult children of immigrants, and BIPOC individuals navigating relational, cultural, and intergenerational experiences. My approach is integrative and collaborative, drawing on EMDR therapy, sex therapy, and somatic interventions to support the whole person, mind, body, and spirit. Whether you’re processing past trauma, struggling with communication, or facing challenges around identity and intimacy, I provide a safe and culturally aware space to explore these experiences. I believe therapy should be a supportive and collaborative relationship where your story is honored and you feel empowered to create meaningful change. If you are seeking support, know that you do not have to carry everything alone. I welcome you to schedule a consultation and take the first step toward growth and connection.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

The first session involves discussing practices, policies, and confidentiality. We will explore the reasons you are seeking therapy. We may additionally discuss your cultural background, family history, medical/mental health history, relationship dynamics, sexual history, and coping mechanisms. I ask for your consent to discuss questions, especially any questions related to sex, and will not violate your comfort if you are not ready to answer. I will utilize a holistic approach to understand you as a whole being. A holistic approach in counseling involves exploring intersectionalities (biological, psychological, sociocultural) that influence you.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

Some of my greatest strengths as a therapist is creating a safe, culturally aware space where clients feel seen and heard. I bring warmth, curiosity, and compassion into the therapeutic process, while also offering structure and tools that help clients move toward meaningful change. My approach blends EMDR, sex therapy, somatic skills, and mindfulness practices, allowing us to address both the mind and body in the healing process. This integrative style helps clients not only process and release past trauma but also build inner resources, strengthen relationships, and reconnect with their authentic selves. I offer a balance between depth and practicality, supporting you through difficult emotions while also equipping you with skills you can use in everyday life. I see therapy as a collaborative journey where transformation is possible when clients feel empowered, supported, and guided with care.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

My ideal clients are individuals and couples who feel weighed down by trauma, anxiety, or relationship struggles and are ready to explore new ways of healing and connection. I work especially well with immigrants, adult children of immigrants, and BIPOC clients navigating cultural identity, intergenerational trauma, and the challenges of balancing multiple worlds. Many of my clients are seeking not only relief from their struggles but also a deeper sense of self-compassion, intimacy, and belonging. I’m also passionate about supporting couples who want to improve communication, rebuild trust, or address intimacy and sexual concerns with openness and care. My clients tend to value a holistic, culturally aware approach that integrates somatic skills and mindfulness practices to address both the mind and body. Together, we collaborate to create space for growth and meaningful change.

My treatment methods

EMDR

During EMDR therapy, you and your therapist focus on two main goals: 1. Strengthening your ability to handle distress so you feel more in control. 2. Reprocessing difficult experiences so they no longer trigger strong emotional reactions. A key part of EMDR is bilateral stimulation through eye movement, tapping, or listening to alternating sounds. This helps your brain recognize that what you’re remembering is in the past, not happening now. As a result, your brain can let go of survival instincts that were once needed but are no longer helpful.

Sex Therapy

Sex therapy is for individuals and couples (monogamous or ethical non-monogamy). Sex therapy is a specialty in psychotherapy designed to address psychological, physical, and spiritual/cultural sexual challenges. It prioritizes consent, safety, and trust. Challenges Sex Therapy Addresses: Sexual Dysfunctions, Infidelity, Communication and Connection, Mismatched Desire, Non-Sexual Relationship, Ethical Non-Monogamy, Separation & Divorce, Intersectionality impacts on sexuality, Sexual Abuse & Trauma, Gender & Sexual Diversity, and Sexual Anxiety and Related Issues. Potential Symptoms Sex Therapy Addresses: Pain during sex, Lack of sexual desire, Premature ejaculation, Erectile challenges, Lack of lubrication, Difficulty communicating sexual and relationship matters, Reduced Libido, Vaginismus, and Difficulty with orgasm.

Somatic

Somatic Interventions consists of: Mindfulness exercises, Breathwork, Guided Imageries to foster a connection to your body, help release built-up tension and trauma. Somatic exercises may consist of connected breathing, movement, therapeutic self-touch, sound, emotional release, and meditation.

Couples Counseling

Couples counseling is a collaborative process to strengthen connection, improve communication, and navigate challenges. Whether you’re working through conflict, intimacy issues, or life transitions, we’ll create a space where all partners feel heard, respected, and supported. During our sessions, I ask for everyone's consent to discuss questions, especially any questions related to sex, and will not violate your comfort if you are not ready to answer. I will utilize a holistic approach to understand everyone as a whole being. A holistic approach in counseling involves exploring intersectionalities (biological, psychological, sociocultural) that influence you.
