Greetings! My name is Kristine, License Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), and I am located in the Sacramento region. I received my degree in 2016 from San Jose State University and have held positions within corporations, government systems, and nonprofits which led me to private practice in 2020. I have had the privilege to support children, adolescents, young adults, general adult community, and elders throughout my career and find fulfillment with this diversity. I provide therapy with a person-centered approach and tailored guidance to address emotional, behavioral, and relational issues. My areas of focus include ADHD, anxiety, coaching, depression, domestic violence, family conflict, grief and loss, relationship issues, spirituality, substance use, trauma, and issues related to life transitions. I'm experienced with the complexities of acute mental illness, navigation through the mental health system, criminal justice system specifically for victims of crime, first-hand knowledge of being a parent, grandparent, and receiving therapy myself to sort through life's challenges. During our work together, you'll gain valuable insight into yourself and the factors which may have hindered your personal growth. My approach is rooted in empathy and I aim to reduce problematic symptoms and improve clients' self-esteem, insight, and overall quality of life.

Dr. Charness is a former assistant district attorney specializing in prosecuting domestic violence and sexual assault, and rape cases. Additionally, she has her PsyD in clinical psychology specializing in trauma, attachment theory, and affect regulation. She has worked extensively with patients suffering from physical, sexual, and emotional abuse trauma. Further, Dr. Charness has a wealth of experience with PTSD, depression, anxiety, suicidality, and self-harm. She incorporates many modalities in her sessions, including psychodynamic psychotherapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy, mindfulness, and somatic work. She effectively supports clients working through past trauma and finding resolve and peace within themselves, which is crucial to individual mental health and functionality. Inclusivity and remaining culturally sensitive to patients are of utmost importance to her. Dr. Charness has also contributed to several books, including Voices of Pain, Voices of Hope, Students Speak About Racism, and Learning Through Discussion. Her most recent passion is her blog on Psychology Today (under law and crime) regarding the intersection of law and mental health. She focuses primarily on how legal rulings can impact our mental health, motive, trauma-informed interrogation, and investigation, particularly in domestic violence and sexual assault cases, and the failings of both the legal and mental health systems. Teaching about the realities of what life looks like inside the courtroom for a victim of domestic violence or rape, whether it be to a classroom of students or an audience of readers, is incredibly important to her.

Hello! I’m Brenda De Monge, a passionate Marriage and Family Therapist. I'm currently in my fourth year of doctoral studies in Psychology at Southern California Health Science, formerly Reiss-Davis Graduate Institute, specializing in trauma and neurobiology. With over 21 years of experience, I take pride in providing trauma-informed care, meeting my clients where they are, and supporting them in reaching their goals. I use these treatment methods: • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). I have used CBT in my practice to help clients challenge recurring thoughts and manage their anxiety. We’ll work with CBT to understand how your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors interact with each other. Then apply that knowledge to change your thinking patterns, which will help you live a less anxious and stressful life. • Trauma-Focused CBT is a short-term therapy designed for children ages 3-18 who experienced various types of traumas, including physical, emotional, & sexual abuse. When working with young children, the parents/caregivers are key, as they provide ongoing support. By attending sessions, parents will gain a deeper understanding of the root causes of the issues. Over the past 20 years, I have worked with families using this model, & it has been helpful to them. • Seeking Safety is a treatment approach I have used with clients for more than 15 years. It assists individuals dealing with trauma & addiction by emphasizing safety and coping skills. • Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) has proven to be a helpful approach in easing obsessive thoughts, reducing intrusive memories, & empowering clients to stay calm while learning ways to handle future challenges and symptoms. Since 2019, I’ve supported children, teens, & adults in managing their post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, depression, & panic disorder through EMDR. In addition, I’ve helped clients with war-related trauma & child sexual assault.

Hi! My name is Maisie Jacquez and I am an LCSW with 6 years experience working in both New Mexico and California. I have experience working with culturally diverse, high risk populations in rural areas. With little resources as a therapist, you learn to navigate a wide range of issues in your client population. I have been trained to meet client's needs within that population. Moving from that rural area to California as a military spouse has subjected me to a different population to work with. So, whether it is navigating grief, complex trauma, depression, anxiety, work stressors, or major life transitions, I am passionate about helping. My goal is to make my clients as comfortable and safe as possible while healing things that tend to compromise every day functioning. I value my therapeutic relationship with my clients and always want them to feel heard and valued. When my clients are discharged it is always with the intention of knowing I have helped to provide them with the tools they need to navigate life's obstacles in the best way possible. I always want them to feel as though they have learned or gained something from our sessions. My favorite part in my line of work is meeting new people from all different walks of life and learning how their unique characteristics can become their strongest assets.

I really love being a therapist, and it’s so rewarding to support people on their journeys of self-discovery. In many ways, I get to give back the same kind of support that therapy gave me. Over time, I’ve come to see that things like anxiety, depression, chronic illness, or struggles in relationships and careers often show up when something’s off in the mind-body-spirit connection. I’ve been through my own path of growth and transformation, and along the way, I picked up some powerful tools that I truly believe can help you find more healing, love, peace, and purpose in your life. In my work, I lean into attachment theory and also explore the deeper, more spiritual aspects of what it means to be human.

Frequently asked questions

Why filter by California rather than a city like LA?

When looking for online therapy, you can see anyone that is credentialed in the state. We want you to find the best fit, therefore, Grow Therapy shows available therapists across California from San Francisco to San Diego! If you’d rather see someone in-person, you can change the filter from virtual and find a therapist near you in California.

Will my therapist take insurance?

When booking you’ll be asked to verify with your Member ID. However, if you don’t have any of the insurances available you can select cash. Our therapists will have their cost of appointment on their profile. Individual session costs will vary.

How does the Specialty Filter work? Can I find a therapist that focuses on Domestic Violence?

The specialty filter is optional. You don’t need to check any boxes to see a provider. However, fit is very important when selecting an online therapist. If you have knowledge or experience to recognize what specialties you may need. For example, your selected specialty, Domestic Violence, is filtering therapists in California that work with patients with similar concerns.

Why use Gender, Age, and Identities filters?

Finding a provider with a similar life experience can be beneficial because it can be easier to establish rapport and potentially be understood quicker and clearer.

What to expect during your first session?

Your first therapy session is for you and your therapist to meet each other and to ask any questions that you have about the counseling process. This is where you can expect your therapist to do the same as they will ask questions to gain insight into your specific situation. In this first session the therapist is doing their part to gather as much information so they can better assess if they are able to meet your therapeutic needs.

Depending upon your provider's specialty, you may also discuss the methods the therapist will use. For additional information on therapy methods, please visit the Grow Therapy Help Center. Some people feel nervous before their first appointment, and that is totally normal! Coming prepared with a list of questions for your therapist may help. Remember, you're taking a brave step by seeking therapy, and it is okay to be nervous as you try something new.
