Hello. I am Liz. I have been a mental health therapist for over 8 years. I specialize in anxiety, depression, and trauma. I was born and raised in Los Angeles as a first-generation college student. I am an annoying dog mom obsessed with my fur babies and I truly love the work that I do. My main focus is creating a trusting relationship with each person that I work with. Once a strong relationship is established, the real work begins.
In our first session, we will review intake forms, discuss the structure of sessions moving forward, and set goals for therapy. I also like to share fun facts about myself and learn more about you.
First, I focus on creating a trusting relationship with every person I work with. Second, I believe therapy is a life long relationship. I still see clients periodically that I have worked with for over 6-7 years. I believe that when life gets stressful, people should not have to start over. Clients can always return for sessions whenever they need to talk or process. Third, I have real world experience with each diagnosis that I specialize in. I believe that having personal experience with the symptoms that clients are coming in with allows me to truly empathize and teach skills that I have personally utilized.
I enjoy working with first-gen students and the BIPOC community. I focus on themes of people pleasing, perfectionism, family traumas, generational trauma, anxiety, conflicts with peers, setting boundaries, and self exploration. I enjoy working with women ages 18 and up. I also enjoy working with Latino men who are attempting to break cycles of trauma in their families.
I was trained in TF CBT about 7 years ago. I have used trauma focused cognitive behavioral therapy many times with many clients. I use TF CBT to help clients process traumas they have experienced and also to educate clients on the impacts of trauma.
I completed a mindfulness course at USC and have learned the plentiful benefits of using mindfulness techniques to assist with managing symptoms of anxiety, depression, and trauma.
I received a BA from UC Santa Barbara in Feminist Studies focusing on women's empowerment. I utilize strength based focus to manage obstacles women may face.
