I’m Melissa Lapides, and my work centers around attachment. If you’re dating or in a relationship, we’re going to look at how your early experiences shaped the way you connect, protect, pursue, withdraw, or repeat the same patterns over and over. Together, we make sense of why you’re experiencing the challenges you’re having — not from a place of blame, but from understanding. I work with both individuals and couples to help them build more harmonious relationships rooted in emotional safety, secure connection, and real love and intimacy. When you understand your attachment style and nervous system, your relationship patterns stop feeling confusing and start feeling workable. I’m warm, direct, and grounded — think compassionate but honest. I’ll hold space for your pain, and I’ll also gently call you forward when you’re ready. I believe most struggles make sense in the context of your story and your nervous system, not because something is “wrong” with you. My goal is to help you feel more regulated, more connected, and more empowered in your relationships and your life. Healing doesn’t have to be dramatic — it can be steady, real, and deeply transformative.

I’m a Marriage & Family Therapist (LMFT) who offers a warm, grounded space to slow things down, make sense of what you’re experiencing, and create meaningful change. My style is relational and attachment-informed—meaning we pay attention to patterns that show up in relationships, and how earlier experiences may shape the way you cope, connect, or protect yourself today. I’m also strengths-based and practical: we’ll build on what’s already working while using CBT tools to reduce overwhelm, challenge unhelpful thought loops, and practice skills that support steadier mood, boundaries, and healthier relationships. The impact my clients often experience is feeling more emotionally stable and confident in themselves, with a clearer understanding of their triggers and patterns. Over time, many people report improved self-compassion, stronger communication, more secure attachment in relationships, and an increased ability to tolerate difficult emotions without shutting down or spiraling. My goal is for you to leave therapy with both deeper insight and real-life tools so you can feel more connected, empowered, and able to live with authenticity and intention.

A little about me: I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who, come to find out, originally got into this field largely to figure myself out. If you’ve never heard that from a therapist before, it’s actually a pretty common thread among us, we often subconsciously step into healing others as a way to find healing within ourselves. About 22 years ago, I was diagnosed with Complex PTSD, and roughly 15 years ago, I received an OCD diagnosis. Having these two conditions overlap made things incredibly challenging throughout much of my life and if I’m being completely honest, navigating that balance can still have its moments today. But there’s something powerful about a wounded healer: we tend to want more for ourselves and for the people we serve than just standard, status-quo talk therapy. We dig deeper because we need real answers on a personal level, and once we find what works, we want to share it with the world.

These challenges might stem from past trauma, ongoing stress, or life transitions that feel too big to manage alone. I run Unscripted Therapy, a practice focused on helping people break out of stuck patters. I work with individuals who are tired of having the same conversations and somehow ending up right back where they started. Whether it’s anxiety, stress, or relationship patterns that keep repeating, something isn’t working—and at this point, that’s pretty clear. My approach is direct, collaborative, and focused on actually changing what’s not working. I’m not going to just sit there nodding while you vent and then ask how that made you feel for the tenth time. We’ll figure out what’s keeping you stuck and start doing something different about it. Therapy with me is honest, practical, and yes—sometimes a little blunt. But it’s also real. If you’re looking for something that actually helps you move forward (not just talk about why you’re stuck), we’ll probably be a good fit.

Currently not accepting couples, fully accepting you! I work exclusively with adults in individual therapy. If you’ve been stuck in the endless therapist scroll, trying to figure out who actually feels safe, relatable, and honest enough to open up to....... welcome! I hold a Master of Social Work (MSW) from the University of Iowa with an emphasis in mental health. This background allows me to approach your concerns with a holistic and informed perspective. Many of the people I work with are carrying anxiety, depression, emotional overwhelm, relationship stress, identity exploration, burnout, anger, shame, grief, or the pressure of always having to “hold it together.” Some feel disconnected from themselves. Others are tired of surviving and want to start living more intentionally. My approach is warm, grounded, direct, and deeply human. Therapy with me is not about analyzing you from a distance or pretending to have all the answers. It is a collaborative space where you can slow down, speak honestly, make sense of your experiences, and begin responding to yourself and your life differently. Clients often tell me they appreciate that I balance compassion with honesty. I will support you, challenge you when needed, and help you notice patterns that may no longer serve you without judgment or shame. I work best with clients who are open to reflection, ready for meaningful change, and willing to engage in the process at their own pace. If you’re looking for a therapist who feels authentic, conversational, and intentional in the work, we may be a good fit.

My name is Javi Gonzalez, and I am a Hispanic therapist originally from Mexico. My personal and professional background has shaped the way I connect with clients, especially men from the Latino/Hispanic community who are navigating addiction, depression, cultural identity, family expectations, relationship conflict, anxiety, and stress. I understand that many Latino men are taught to stay strong, keep problems private, and carry emotional pain alone. In therapy, I work to create a space where clients can be honest without feeling judged. My style is direct, respectful, practical, and compassionate. I believe clients deserve both support and honest feedback as they work toward meaningful change and resolve your problems. My own life experiences have given me a deep respect for resilience, survival, and the effort it takes to build a different future. I know that issues like poverty, cultural pressure, family responsibility, community violence, immigration experiences, and addiction can deeply affect how a person sees themselves and relates to others. I help clients identify unhealthy patterns, develop better coping skills, improve communication, and build healthier relationships with themselves, their partners, and their families. I especially enjoy working with Spanish-speaking clients who want therapy that feels culturally familiar, honest, and focused on real-life progress. My goal is to help clients feel understood, take responsibility for change, and move toward a more stable, healthy, and meaningful life.

I am a deeply attentive and discerning therapist that understands each person's life unfolds as its own intricate composition - shaped by rhythm , interruption, dissonance, silence, and return. At times the weight of experience can disrupt that internal continuity, leaving a person feeling fragmented, suspended, or estranged from a deeper coherence of their own life. Therapy offers a space to listen closely and differently: to what has become strained or dissonant, to where the tempo has shifted, and to what may be ready to be restored to greater clarity, resonance, and flow. My work is grounded in the belief that healing is both relational and interpretive. Healing calls not only for insight, but for attunement to timing pattern, pacing, and emotional cadence. Each session build on the last guided by what continues to reverberate beneath the surface - an unresolved phrase, a recurring motif, an abrupt change in tempo, a silence that holds more than words. Together, we consider what has been interrupted, what has been carried too long, and what now may be ready to be reworked, integrated, or sustained with greater continuity and intention.

I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. I take a client-centered approach to treatment, ensuring that each session is tailored to the unique needs and goals of my clients. In my sessions, I would like to hear from you. Think of me as an observer in your art gallery, not as a critic, but as someone who appreciates your vision and the story you tell. You are the artist, and as such, you will explain to me your pieces, your vision, and your creations. I will take these all in and reflect back to you your work, and if appropriate, draw parallels from your earlier creations.

I’m a warm, direct, and down-to-earth therapist who believes therapy should feel like a genuine human relationship rather than a cold or overly clinical experience. My approach is rooted in feminist and existential therapy, which means we’ll look not only at what you’re experiencing internally, but also at how relationships, family patterns, societal expectations, identity, and your lived experiences have shaped you. I value humor, curiosity, honesty, and creating a space where you don’t have to edit yourself. My goal isn’t to tell you how to live your life, but to help you understand yourself more deeply, recognize patterns that may no longer serve you, and build a life that feels authentic and meaningful to you.

This ensures you find someone who truly understands your experiences and can provide the most effective treatment based on your needs.

Flexible availability

We know that when you’re ready for therapy, you shouldn’t have to wait. Our therapists often maintain flexible scheduling with morning, afternoon, and weekend availability, typically allowing you to book your first session within two days.

Insurance-friendly options

Many of our California anxiety therapists accept major insurance plans, and you could pay as little as $0 with coverage, with most paying $21/session on average with their insurance. We help you navigate insurance benefits so you can focus on what matters most – your mental health. Want to know what therapy might cost with your insurance? Check out our therapy cost estimate calculator.

Understanding anxiety treatment options in California

Anxiety treatment has evolved significantly over the years, and today there are numerous evidence-based approaches that can effectively help you manage and overcome anxiety symptoms. The good news is that you have options – from traditional talk therapy methods to newer, innovative techniques, there’s likely a treatment approach that will resonate with your learning style and personal preferences. Below are some of the most common and effective therapeutic approaches our California therapists use to help clients find relief from anxiety.

Examples of evidence-based approaches

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): A commonly used method for anxiety treatment, CBT helps you identify and challenge negative thought patterns while developing practical coping strategies. Many of our California therapists specialize in CBT techniques specifically adapted for anxiety.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT): Particularly effective for anxiety with emotional regulation challenges, DBT combines cognitive behavioral techniques with mindfulness practices to help you manage intense emotions and reduce anxiety symptoms.

Mindfulness-Based Therapy: Incorporating meditation and awareness of the present moment, this approach helps you develop a healthier relationship with anxious thoughts and feelings rather than fighting against them.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT): ACT focuses on accepting anxiety while committing to actions aligned with your values, helping you live a fulfilling life despite anxious feelings.

Specialized anxiety treatment areas

Our California therapists have expertise in treating various anxiety-related issues, including:

  • Generalized anxiety disorder: Persistent, excessive worry about everyday situations
  • Social anxiety: Fear of social situations and being judged by others
  • Panic disorder: Recurring panic attacks and fear of future episodes
  • Specific phobias: Intense fear of particular objects, situations, or activities

How to find the right anxiety therapist in California

What to look for in an anxiety therapist

Credentials and experience: Look for licensed therapists (e.g. LMFT, LICSW/LCSW, LPCC, or psychologists) with specific training in anxiety. When searching the Grow Therapy online therapy platform, you will see a clear display of each therapist’s credentials, years of experience, and specialty areas.

Therapeutic approach alignment: Consider which therapeutic approaches resonate with you. Some people prefer structured, skills-based approaches like CBT, while others may benefit from more exploratory or mindfulness-based methods.

To find a therapist by treatment method, you can use the “Treatment Methods” filter above. You may also double check a therapist’s treatment methods by viewing the “My treatment method” section on their profile page. To learn more about the types of therapy available, check out our guide on the different types of therapy.

Availability and scheduling: Choose a therapist whose schedule aligns with yours. Many of our California providers offer both virtual and in-person sessions, providing flexibility for your busy lifestyle.

Insurance acceptance: Verify that your preferred therapist accepts your insurance plan. We make this easy by showing accepted insurances for each therapist.

Overcoming common barriers to anxiety treatment

Cost concerns: Many people worry about the cost of therapy, but with insurance coverage and a large network of in-person and online therapists on Grow Therapy who accept various plans, treatment can be more affordable than you think. We’re here to help you understand your benefits and find cost-effective options.

Time constraints: Anxiety often makes daily tasks feel overwhelming, and finding time for therapy can seem impossible. Our flexible scheduling options, including evening and weekend appointments, plus virtual sessions, make it easier to prioritize your mental health.

Stigma and privacy: It’s natural to feel hesitant about seeking help, but remember that anxiety is a treatable mental health condition. At Grow Therapy, we have built our online therapy platform to prioritize your privacy and connect you with understanding professionals who create safe, judgment-free spaces.

Finding the right fit: Not every therapist is the right match for every person, and that’s okay. Our detailed provider profiles and filtering options help you find someone who aligns with your preferences and needs. If you find the provider you choose is not the right fit, Grow Therapy makes it easy to switch and find a new provider who better fits your needs and what you’re seeking in your care.

Getting started with anxiety therapy in California

What to expect in your first session

Your first therapy session is designed to help you and your therapist get to know each other and begin understanding your anxiety experiences. Your therapist will likely ask about:

  • Your current anxiety symptoms and triggers
  • How anxiety impacts your daily life
  • Your personal and family mental health history
  • Your goals for treatment
  • Any previous therapy experiences

This initial session is also your opportunity to ask questions about the therapeutic process, your therapist’s approach, and what you can expect moving forward. To learn more about the therapy process, check out our guide to going to therapy.

Preparing for your anxiety treatment journey

Questions to Ask Your Therapist:

  • What is your experience helping people who have signs of anxiety?
  • What therapeutic approaches do you use for anxiety?
  • How long does treatment typically take?
  • What can I do between sessions to support my progress?
  • How will we measure progress?

Setting realistic expectations: Anxiety treatment is a process, not a quick fix. While many people experience some relief early in treatment, developing lasting coping skills and seeing significant symptom reduction typically takes time and consistent effort.

Developing coping strategies: Your therapist will work with you to develop personalized coping strategies that you can use both in and outside of your sessions. These might include breathing exercises, grounding techniques, challenging unhelpful thoughts, or mindfulness practices.

Insurance and affordability for anxiety treatment in California

Making therapy accessible

Insurance coverage options: Many major insurance plans cover mental health treatment, including therapy for anxiety. Our California therapists accept a wide range of insurance providers, including Aetna, Cigna, UnitedHealthcare, and many others. Insurance providers do vary by state, however, so please verify that your insurance is available in California.

Understanding your benefits: We help you understand your mental health benefits, including copays, deductibles, and coverage limits. This transparency allows you to make informed decisions about your care. To learn more about how therapy and insurance work together, check out our guide to understanding insurance for therapy.

Additional support options: For those without insurance or with limited coverage, many of our therapists offer cash options, and employee assistance programs (EAPs) through your workplace may also provide free or low-cost counseling sessions.
