My name is Amber Phillips. I am a dedicated therapist with a strong belief in the importance of empowering my clients to make autonomous decisions. I view my role as that of a guide, helping my clients to bridge the gap between their every day thoughts and actions. Ultimately, leading you to healthier, more effective behavior and overall communication with others. With a reserved, curious, and passive demeanor, I do my best to create a safe and non-judgmental space for my clients to explore your thoughts and emotions. I firmly believe in the power of leading clients to your own answers, rather than providing solutions for you. You know your life better than anyone else! I am committed to fostering an environment where you feel empowered to take control of your own life, and make decisions that are best for your overall well-being.

I have been practicing as a licensed psychotherapist and clinical social worker for over 25 years. Therapy is not a complicated process. We discuss expectations of therapy, identifying specific treatment goals and mapping out a plan. Our work takes place within the boundaries of a safe, corrective emotional relationship. Therapy works. It is about growth and evolution, and I repeatedly observe that there is great joy in embracing positive new behaviors based on this collaborative approach.

Fulfilling our potential is a lifelong journey of becoming more at peace with ourselves, deepening the intimacy in our relationships, being more authentically human, and feeling more alive each day. Along the way, certain challenges arise to cause us distress or confusion. Such moments can make us feel held back, afraid, or unsure of where to go from here. But these moments can also be the points of growth and healing from which we renew ourselves in ways we did not think possible. It is a great privilege helping men and women in their search to improve their relationship with themselves and others, to lessen the burden of emotional pain, to experience freedom from addictions, or to embark on new life challenges - to find the hope and courage needed to take those important next steps.

Hey everyone! I am here to help with providing ways to get started in developing a new and happier you. I graduated from the University of Alabama with a Masters Degree in Counseling and I am also a certified rehabilitation counselor, having worked with youth and adults with learning disabilities. In addition I have a post-graduate certificate in Addiction Studies. I am a believer that if the mind and body are focused on goals, obstacles can be overcome, as you become more confident and powerful. We will begin our journey together as we work in small steps toward developing your new goals. These will always be your goals and I am here to help guide you toward them. My work begins by listening to you and then we will summarize what your expectations are. Then I will reflect to you what you have communicated. I will tell you what we can expect to change and how we will be able to make that change happen. My therapeutic techniques are driven by your needs and how you will respond to the new direction. No one said life would not send us off the pretty path that we all want to remain on. It happens. I can't think of anyone who has not had obstacles to overcome. I specialize in helping people overcome rejection, low self-esteem, work issues, disabilities, anxiety, living in the past, how to forgive themselves, addictions, how to stop living your life as the victim, and how to love and accept yourself and others.

Therapy is a journey, whether you are familiar to the process or just beginning, I am so glad you are here. I'm a licensed counselor with a diverse background, I enjoyed working with those who were incarcerated make better choices for their future on the outside, working with those in active addiction trying to do something to make recovery possible, and working in a busy outpatient mental health clinic. With each experience, I learned how to work with various populations and enhance my skills. The most rewarding part of my job is seeing the "light blub" moment occur with a client or helping a client heal when they are struggling.

What are you hoping to experience more of in your life? Let's connect and talk about how to make that happen! I’m excited to collaborate with you in working toward increasing sexual safety, wellness, and pleasure in your life. I'd love to work together to figure out what you’re already doing that’s working for you and develop a plan to build on your current strengths and supports to help you move toward the sexual life and relationships you want. Most of us have been taught not to talk about sex and our bodies, and many of us have been taught to be ashamed of our bodies and what we think about, fantasize about, and do sexually. I believe that everyone is a sexual being and that sexual expression is a healthy part of all of our lives. Sometimes all we need is for someone to hold a safe space for us while we explore and process. Sometimes what we need is specific education, skills, and the support to develop them. As a Licensed Professional Counselor and AASECT Certified Sex Therapist with over 20 years of experience in the field of sexual wellness, my goal isn’t to tell you where you should go, what you should do, or how you should be, but to help you move in the direction of the life you want, wherever that might take you.

Hello! I have always enjoyed helping others for as long as I can remember as early as age 9. I love to see their responses in the learning process. I have experienced trauma, witnessed violence, anxiety, have been in an unhealthy alcoholic relationship and have been a sensitive being my entire life not understanding why. My saving Grace has always been movement. I loved the way it made me feel-free and calm, and movement has always been part of my life even during 4 pregnancies and keeping up with my 4 children, and now my grandchildren. Over time, I was introduced to mindfulness, stress reduction and relaxation (which I didn’t realized how much I needed) and Yoga. This allowed me to calm my mind and focus. My career goal was Physical Education teaching and when I graduated (after have 4 children), teacher jobs were scarce. I was introduced to Behavioral Health and here I am now, 25 years later.

Welcome to Grow Therapy! My focus as a mental health therapist is to guide my client through the emotional ebb and flow of life. When one experiences turbulence in life, whether it be depression, anxiety, grief, relationship issues and so much more, I aim to sit with them. Extending my insight and clinical experience to guide them in their transition through the many challenges of life. We are never alone and I will help you to truly believe that! Ones most significant relationship that they will ever have, is the one that they have within. I would greatly appreciate the honor of assisting you in the creation of your most authentic life! My passion for Psychology and Counseling began in 2004 while attending Western Michigan University. I then went on to Graduate School at Oakland University in Rochester Hills, MI. There I graduated Magna Cum Laude, in 2012 with a MA in Counseling. That experience led me to PAR Rehab in Lansing, MI where I was hired after my internship in psychological testing and assessment. My personal life brought me to Erie, PA where I reside with my beautiful family. During the covid-19 pandemic I was forced, as many of us were....to work remotely. I found Grow Therapy to be the perfect opportunity to expand my practice and geographical radius as a practitioner. That is a brief synopsis of my path to Grow Therapy! I am beyond thrilled to reach more individuals throughout Pennsylvania. Lets do this together!

I received my Masters in Marriage and Family Therapy at Thomas Jefferson University in 2017. In my work, I seek to make a connection that will cultivate a safe, judgement-free space to work through challenging issues & promote self-discovery. My stance in life and in my practice is anti-racist, sex positive, LGBTQ+ competent and gender affirming. I recognize my privilege as a cis-gender, white, male professional and strive to position myself as an equal collaborator in the processes of growth and change within my clients. Coming from an entertainment industry background, I have worked extensively with artists, musicians, actors and entrepreneurs and understand the creative process, along with the self-determination that pushes it forward and the self-doubt that can hold it in stagnation. I also specialize in working with clients experiencing major life transitions, such as; becoming a parent, getting married or starting a long-term relationship, experiencing separation or divorce, major career changes, graduating from school, health changes and loss and grief. I have experience working with queer, gay, lesbian, non-binary and transgender clients of various cultural backgrounds and have supported clients along their journey to finding their authentic self and identity. I am also competent in understanding and working with ethical non-monogamous individuals. Reaching out for support is not easy. I commend you on taking the first step toward a more compassionate and insightful understanding of yourself and thank you for putting your trust in me to accompany you on that journey.

Do you find yourself overwhelmed and stuck with all the demands and stress in life? My belief in therapy is based on the principle that we as humans are always changing and growing. Throughout life, we all face obstacles or challenges that we must work through in order to reach our optimal self. My goal is to process current and past experiences in order to grow and identify how they impact the present and future. I used mixed cognitive and relational approaches to shape positive thinking and increase awareness. I strive to create a safe, empowering environment where you can learn and grow.

Greetings, my name is John Luke. I am a licensed clinical social worker and specialize in helping people to effectively manage anxiety, depression, and other mental health concerns using cognitive behavioral techniques. I have worked with a range of populations, nearly all ages, and also have experience with addiction treatment and life-coaching. I work with people to develop insight into the source of their problems, how their core beliefs about the world might be hindering their progress, and focus on their natural strengths to overcome those barriers with practical skills that generate sustainable change. Some of my other specialties include short-term, solution-focused therapy; cognitive behavioral therapy techniques; psychodynamic approaches; and marital counseling. Some of the problems I am particularly keen on solving with my clients include issues with self-image and confidence; dating and relationships; boundary-setting and assertive communication; as well as general anxiety management; and learning to identify and productively resolve emotional unrest. I am also very experienced in cognitive restructuring, which is just a fancy way of saying helping to change the way a person thinks about the world and their place in it. I also enjoy aiding people in goal setting and identification, meaning-making, and navigating family conflicts. If you feel any of this could be helpful or useful to you, please do not hesitate to reach out! (Note: I do work with couples, but only on a cash-pay basis. Also, I only work with ages 18+)

I've had a passion for the human experience for as long as I can remember! My whole adult life has been spent helping to better the lives of those around me. I believe in a comprehensive approach to treatment to understand where you've been, where you're at, and where you want to go. I've worked as a licensed therapist in the suburbs of Philadelphia as well as the streets of Kensington, with those experiencing the effects of severe trauma, depression, anxiety, and the impact of the opioid epidemic. Additionally, I work with many couples at any stage of their relationship. Before my experiences as a therapist, I worked in homelessness prevention in Bucks County and with foster youth as a life skills counselor in Montgomery County. As a therapist, father, and husband, I understand the importance of connection, creating a safe environment, and fostering growth.

The greatest skill in life: Asking for help. The most successful people have a team to assist in their decision making and managing priorities. I want to be on your team. Speaking of teams, I referee basketball. This requires an unbiased point of view and thick skin. I cast no judgment and am here to listen to the good, the bad, and the ugly. I am here for you! Therapy is a powerful tool during any change of life circumstance because the it can be uncomfortable and confusing. This discomfort could surface some negative coping skills. My role is to advocate for your needs, help identify the stressors, and guide you to the best changes necessary to challenge yourself during this trying time. Working in the drug and alcohol field for 10+ years has provided me with the opportunity to work with people from all walks of life relearning how to operate in the world without previous bad habits (substances, codependency, eating disorders to cope again. Trauma was usually the running theme for most people in addiction. I am experienced with working with clients with PTSD to process and overcome the trauma.

Frequently asked questions

Why filter by Pennsylvania rather than a city like Philadelphia?

When looking for online therapy, you can see anyone that is credentialed in the state. We want you to find the best fit, therefore, Grow Therapy shows available therapists across Pennsylvania from Pittsburgh to Scranton! If you’d rather see someone in-person, you can change the filter from virtual and find a therapist near you in Pennsylvania.

Will my therapist take insurance?

When booking you’ll be asked to verify with your Member ID. However, if you don’t have any of the insurances available you can select cash. Our therapists will have their cost of appointment on their profile. Individual session costs will vary.

How does the Specialty Filter work? Can I find a therapist that focuses on a specific issue?

The specialty filter is optional. You don’t need to check any boxes to see a provider. However, fit is very important when selecting an online therapist. If you have knowledge or experience to recognize what specialties you may need.

What are the "Clients say I'm" badges?

Grow Therapy asks patients about their experience with therapists after they have had a certain number of sessions. After enough responses, we add those characteristics to their profiles to help you find the best online therapists for you. We're still working on collecting this information from all our therapists.

Why use Gender, Age, and Identities filters?

Finding a provider with a similar life experience can be beneficial because it can be easier to establish rapport and potentially be understood quicker and clearer.

What to expect during your first session?

Your first therapy session is for you and your therapist to meet each other and to ask any questions that you have about the counseling process. This is where you can expect your therapist to do the same as they will ask questions to gain insight into your specific situation. In this first session the therapist is doing their part to gather as much information so they can better assess if they are able to meet your therapeutic needs.

Depending upon your provider's specialty, you may also discuss the methods the therapist will use. For additional information on therapy methods, please visit the Grow Therapy Help Center. Some people feel nervous before their first appointment, and that is totally normal! Coming prepared with a list of questions for your therapist may help. Remember, you're taking a brave step by seeking therapy, and it is okay to be nervous as you try something new.
