My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

Assisting individuals with slowing down, being mindful, and learning to pay attention to internal dialect, assist with reality testing, and grounding leading to desired outcomes through corrected behaviors. This is done by sitting with thoughts, allowing thoughts to come and go and experience each emotion fully without running when feelings of vulnerability arise. It is believed that thoughts dictate our actions, to control thinking controls behaviors.

Cognitive Behavior Therapy for Suicide Prevention (CBT-SP)

Assisting individuals with grounding themselves through deep breathing, slowing down to find a way to quickly sooth oneself in a functional way. This is accomplished over time through identifying negative thought patterns and replacing them with functional thought patterns that will empower and uplift the individual, giving them a sense of hope.

Attachment-based

Having relationships is important for social beings such as humans. When an individual experiences discomfort or difficulty in forming relationships, it is often helpful to understand the history of how the individual connects with people. This is accomplished by reflecting on experiences with previous and current relationships to identifying unhelpful self-defeating behaviors that block the individual from forming connections with others. Once behavior patterns are identified, an inventory of triggers or antecedents are logged to assist in gaining a better understanding of how the individual responds to the world. When this has been accomplished the individual will be able to create a narrative that will allow for healing.

Compassion Focused

There are times when individuals experience feeling worthless and inadequate, or experience perfectionism which can inhibit happiness and satisfaction. Assisting an individual in gaining compassion for themselves is often key in obtaining and maintaining a reasonable amount of happiness and satisfaction. This is achieved through education of the impact of self-talk, where self-talk originates, and replacing it with positive self-regard through use of CBT skills.

Acceptance and commitment (ACT)

Often times individuals become stuck due to ruminating on things out of their control, causing anxiety, depression, and hopelessness. Learning to accept the things that cannot be changed, and identifying what can change allows for empowerment. This is accomplished through reflecting on the problem and brainstorming for action.
