What would it look like for you to live your life authentically, meaningfully and free? Together, we can find out. We may explore how your family system and trauma adaptations are getting in the way of your ability to manage moods and set boundaries with others. Or maybe you’ve had experiences where you question your self-worth, asking yourself, “Am I good enough? Am I enough?” We may explore where these beliefs and expectations come from, and how to establish self-compassion. Or maybe you’re finding it challenging to regulate your emotions, so we may discover ways to self-regulate and become more grounded in the present. I offer a warm, integrative approach to counseling that is client directed; this is your space to practice being empowered in your own growth. Together, we’ll collaborate to identify areas of concern, and uncover what is getting in the way of your ability to feel content and free from the confines of social pressures, internal critiques and relational woes. We can empower you to change family legacies, accept and process pain, utilize healthier perspectives, create boundaries, move past the limitations of trauma, and practice self-acceptance to create an authentic life.

Life is hard. Sometimes it feels like problems come one after another. It is overwhelming. You don't have to get through it alone. Therapy is a great place to talk about life's problems where you can say anything and not be judged. No matter what you’re facing, talking with someone can help. My goal is to create a supportive, judgment-free space where you feel like you’re grabbing coffee with a friend…a friend who happens to be a licensed counselor with more than 11 years of experience. In my time working as a counselor, I have helped patients manage and overcome obstacles like anxiety, depression, and major life transitions. From challenges with the overwhelming pressure of academic life, work life, career choices, relationship challenges, and more, I will be there to offer an objective perspective on your situation and provide healthy tips and resources to navigate it. My approach empowers personal growth while always ensuring you feel safe, seen, and heard. Depending on your needs, I utilize CBT, DBT, and Reality Therapy approaches in sessions. Currently, all sessions will be conducted virtually, allowing you to participate from the comfort of your own home and on a more flexible schedule. Let's do this together.

Hi. I'm Bill. I've been working in this field since 2003 treating adults experiencing symptoms related to the anxiety disorders, depressed mood, identity and self-concept difficulties, relationship problems, life-transition difficulties, and traumatic memories. These difficulties along with other related topics that may surface during a therapy session. My therapy approach is quite straightforward, collaborative, and non-judgmental. It's structured to help you develop a healthier and happier life. We begin by identifying the circumstances that prompted you to seek therapy. Then I help you to develop skills and solutions tailored for you to help you move forward toward that healthier life. It's a collaborative approach. You and I work together through this process. From this perspective, listening is the most-important part of communication. When I genuinely listen to your experiences and concerns without judgment or distraction, I can respond appropriately to your concerns. "Right Speech begins with Right Listening." PLEASE BOOK APPOINTMENTS ON THE HOUR. THANKS.

Hi, there, I'm Taffie - Thank you so much for talking with me! Sometimes it's hard to ask for help - and therapy is a great start! Therapy is not at all scary - often it is a conversation that opens up new thoughts and emotions. Are you looking for a safe welcoming place where you can just be? Be heard, be valued, be accepted exactly where you are? I invite you into my space to experience these thoughts and emotions. As a therapist, I incorporate different approaches which address a variety of mental health issues. I empower you to move forward in life in a way that is dynamic and nurturing. I have an unwavering belief that you can experience change based on your needs and goals. We can walk through challenge and fear together to help you create a fulfilling life. My specialties are relationships with family and other significant folks - such a crucial part of our lives. I also can address trauma and PTSD, anxiety, depression and the fluctuations of our mood and emotions. I am always open to discussions of gender identity and sexual identity. I would like to listen as you articulate the issues you are dealing with at this time and help you find the direction you're looking for. It can be freeing to have someone listen, ask questions and make observations - because this time is about you. One of my favorite quotes is: "I am a lighthouse, rather than a lifeboat. I do not rescue, but instead help others to find their way to shore". If you are searching for the way to the shore, I can help.

Hello, and welcome! My name is Amber Stewart, and I’m a licensed professional counselor (LPC) out of Western Pennsylvania. I specialize in anxiety, self-esteem, depression, and trauma. I want to help you go from just tolerating the symptoms of your anxiety, depression, or trauma to living fully in the present. You deserve to live the life you envision for yourself, and I want to help you do that by exploring the areas you’re struggling with, teaching you ways to cope, and reducing the impact that these symptoms have on your life by addressing them at their core. I believe that underlying most (if not all) mental health concerns is some kind of trauma – and, there’s many studies that support my belief that trauma is connected to depression, anxiety, and other mental health concerns. I invite you to learn more about my approaches to therapy, trauma, and trauma therapy by visiting my website: www.everystepforward.com I'm strong on empathy, open-mindedness, and curiosity, and I help those I work with use those same skills when looking at how their past shows up in the present. I use a mindfulness-based approach along with techniques backed by decades of research to help people manage anxiety and depression and improve low self-esteem and self-care.

Hi! People of all walks of life often go through tough times ... and I am here to help. Since 1991, I have worked with individuals across outpatient and inpatient settings, in homes and schools, and now through telehealth. I have assisted people with a variety of challenges--whether related to depression, anxiety and stress, trauma, behavioral control, self-esteem, substance use, life transition, and other issues. I believe in "possibilities thinking", goal setting, active strategizing, and frequent accounting of progress. As a long-term counselor and college psychology professor, I am well acquainted with many therapeutic approaches; however, I am somewhat partial to cognitive-behavioral therapy, relaxation and mindfulness, and solution-focused treatment. I am also formally EMDR-trained and DBT-Certified, both of which are helpful for emotional regulation. There are many therapy options and providers--whomever you select, I wish you the best. Remember--it’s your life, your journey … make the most of it! Sincerely, Rick NOTE: At the current time, my availability will typically be from 9-11 on most weekdays, from 8-9 pm on M-W-F evenings; from 5-9 pm on TH evenings; and from 8 am-3 pm on most Saturdays and Sundays. Sometimes, I can free up other times as well. NOTE: I am accepting only adults (age 18 and older). NOTE: I am offering only 1:1/individual therapy (no direct family or couples' sessions). NOTE: I do not engage in any court-ordered treatment. NOTE: I am interested in conducting therapy, not doing work-mandated, IEP, or other (e.g., Disability, Drug & Alcohol, or Mental Competency) evaluations. NOTE: Though an experienced Licensed Professional Counselor, I am not a Licensed Psychologist or a Psychiatrist. As such, I cannot conduct psychological testing or prescribe medications.

Hi! I'm a licensed professional counselor (LPC) based in Pennsylvania, and I've been practicing for 4 years, specializing in OCD and anxiety-reated disorders. I believe that effective therapy includes an appropriate balance of empathy, humor, active listening, and empowerment. Through proper guidance rooted in evidence-based practices, I utilize an eclectic mix of therapeutic modalities to tailor treatment according to the specific needs of each individual. My treatment approach typically involves three phases: building insight and awareness around delineating between OCD-related intrusive thoughts and your own logical thought processes; developing skills to appropriately manage and dismiss intrusive thoughts and compulsive urges; and ultimately structuring effective, yet manageable, exposures to incrementally build distress tolerance and systematically desensitize to triggering experiences. While our work together will focus on addressing OCD and anxiety-related issues, I intend to utilize a holistic approach necessary in treating the whole person, which may include family work as well. My primary goal is to help clients realize happy, healthy, fulfilling lives by taking their freedom back from the binds of OCD and anxiety. I aim to work in a creative, collaborative environment while cultivating meaningful relationships with my clients. I find it extremely rewarding to help people who are struggling with OCD and anxiety, as progress is often consistent and evident. As they say – if you love what you do, you’ll never work a day in your life!

My passion is working with children, teenagers, young adults, couples and families to process trauma and difficult experiences so they can experience growth and healing within themselves and their relationships. Through my work with individuals and family's I have learned the deep importance of understanding "what has happened" to people rather than viewing people through the lens of "what is wrong with people". Likewise, the importance of understanding one's family of origin and how this shapes our views of people and the world and impacts how we relate with people and navigate our world. I work from a relational, psychodynamic, family-systems, trauma-informed, and neurobiological perspective. Feel free to reach out for more information!

My name is Dese’Rae L. Stage (she/her), but you can call me Des. I’m a mom, therapist, licensed clinical social worker (LCSW), suicidologist, artist, and advocate in Philadelphia, PA. I wear a lot of hats. I identify as a queer, white, cisgender single parent and live with depression, anxiety, ADHD, CPTSD, and chronic suicidal thoughts. It’s important to me to be transparent about my positionality, in terms of my identity and lived experiences, as well as being someone who receives mental health services—I know what it’s like to be in the therapy chair and sitting across from it. To that end, I come to my work as a partner and a support, rather than an expert. In past lives, I worked in the service industry and the music industry, and built a career as an award-winning suicide prevention advocate and artist. I live with two small humans, a Bernese Mountain Dog named Dolly Parton, and a long-haired white Siamese mix with heterochromia named Betty White. I see live music at every available opportunity (and sometimes I still drag my camera along), and when I’m not at a show, I’m probably reading a book, eating something delicious, or building Lego sets. I have a lot of stories. Feel free to ask me what happened when OJ Simpson came into the restaurant I worked at while I was in high school, or about that one time Lou Reed told me to f*ck off.

Do you find yourself overwhelmed and stuck with all the demands and stress in life? My belief in therapy is based on the principle that we as humans are always changing and growing. Throughout life, we all face obstacles or challenges that we must work through in order to reach our optimal self. My goal is to process current and past experiences in order to grow and identify how they impact the present and future. I used mixed cognitive and relational approaches to shape positive thinking and increase awareness. I strive to create a safe, empowering environment where you can learn and grow.

Frequently asked questions

Why filter by Pennsylvania rather than a city like Philadelphia?

When looking for online therapy, you can see anyone that is credentialed in the state. We want you to find the best fit, therefore, Grow Therapy shows available therapists across Pennsylvania from Pittsburgh to Scranton! If you’d rather see someone in-person, you can change the filter from virtual and find a therapist near you in Pennsylvania.

Will my therapist take United Medical Resources?

Yes! If you use United Medical Resources you’ll be asked to verify your Member ID at the time you book the appointment. However, if you don’t have United Medical Resources you can select cash. Our therapists will have their cost of appointment on their profile. Individual session costs will vary.

How does the Specialty Filter work? Can I find a therapist that focuses on a specific issue?

The specialty filter is optional. You don’t need to check any boxes to see a provider. However, fit is very important when selecting an online therapist. If you have knowledge or experience to recognize what specialties you may need.

What are the "Clients say I'm" badges?

Grow Therapy asks patients about their experience with therapists after they have had a certain number of sessions. After enough responses, we add those characteristics to their profiles to help you find the best online therapists for you. We're still working on collecting this information from all our therapists.

Why use Gender, Age, and Identities filters?

Finding a provider with a similar life experience can be beneficial because it can be easier to establish rapport and potentially be understood quicker and clearer.

What to expect during your first session?

Your first therapy session is for you and your therapist to meet each other and to ask any questions that you have about the counseling process. This is where you can expect your therapist to do the same as they will ask questions to gain insight into your specific situation. In this first session the therapist is doing their part to gather as much information so they can better assess if they are able to meet your therapeutic needs.

Depending upon your provider's specialty, you may also discuss the methods the therapist will use. For additional information on therapy methods, please visit the Grow Therapy Help Center. Some people feel nervous before their first appointment, and that is totally normal! Coming prepared with a list of questions for your therapist may help. Remember, you're taking a brave step by seeking therapy, and it is okay to be nervous as you try something new.
