Being unhappy can take you by surprise. Sometimes the cause of it seems clear, like a sudden break up or the death of someone close to you. Other times it’s harder to say. You might be in a relationship that no longer feels the way it once did. You may have moved to a new place or started a new job and find yourself unsettled. Or you may feel that everything is “going well,” yet still, for whatever reason, you just aren’t happy. If any of this sounds like you, I can help.I specialize in treating adults struggling with life transitions, dating and relationship problems, adhd and other neurodivergent experiences, and depression and loneliness. My background and style are in client centered, psychodynamic therapy, in which I can help you to work through both the imminent problems that brought you to therapy, as well as the sometimes more deeply hidden problems that precede and inform these present day problems. I have a decade of experience working in a number of clinical settings, and prior to that have a background in the humanities and philosophy. My own experience working through both psychological and philosophical questions informs my work with clients. I believe that therapy can be a great place to really work through your thoughts about your life, with the benefit of an outside participant who can listen with openness and curiosity.

Many people come to therapy feeling stuck in patterns that no longer serve them - whether that's anxiety, relationship struggles, substance use, or a lingering sense they've lost connection with who they truly are. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) who works with individuals navigating anxiety, depression, relationship patterns, substance use concerns, life transitions, and questions of identity. I specialize in supporting clients experiencing substance use disorders, co-dependency, co-occurring mental health and substance use concerns, anxiety, depression, stress, relational patterns, shame, people-pleasing, identity exploration and rebuilding a healthy relationship with self, and religious or spiritual trauma. Many of my clients are working to untangle harmful patterns, rebuild trust with themselves, and create healthier relationships. I have particular interest in supporting individuals unpacking harmful religious experiences or high-control faith environments. Many clients I work with are navigating questions of identity, autonomy, and personal values after feeling pressure to conform to rigid belief systems. Many of the clients I work with are learning to trust their own voice again after years of feeling pressure to meet others' expectations. I understand how deeply faith, identity, family, and community can be intertwined, and I approach this work with care and respect for each person's unique journey. My approach is collaborative and strengths-based. I believe therapy is not a "one-size-fits all" experience, and I tailor the process to each client's needs, values and goals. Seeking greater serenity in your life takes courage. Therapy can be a space to slow down, gain insight, and reconnect with parts of yourself that may have been overlooked or silenced along the way. You deserve support as you move toward a life that feels more grounded, authentic, and aligned with who you truly are. I would be honored to walk alongside you in that process.

“The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change.” — Carl Rogers I believe so many of us already have the capacity to become our best selves, but something gets in the way. Past experiences, anxiety, patterns we’ve learned, or ways we’ve had to cope that no longer serve us. I work with children, teens, adults, and parents who feel stuck or held back in some way, and are ready to start understanding why. Together, we look at what’s underneath those patterns and begin to gently remove the things that are no longer helping you grow. My approach is warm, supportive, and real. I want you to feel comfortable showing up exactly as you are, while also helping you move forward in a way that feels more aligned and authentic to you. Therapy isn’t about becoming someone completely different. It’s about coming back to yourself, with more clarity, confidence, and the ability to move through life in a way that feels better. If you’re ready to step into that version of yourself, I’d love to connect.

Hi, I’m Nick. You might be here because you’re tired of pretending you’re fine when you’re really not. Maybe you overthink everything, shut down, get irritated with people you care about, or just feel like you’re carrying a lot and don’t totally know why. For some people, it goes a bit deeper than that. You might have grown up being seen as the “problem” in your family, or the one who got blamed or was maybe made to feel like too much. A lot of the people I work with are LGBTQIA+ or neurodivergent (not everyone, though!), or still figuring that out, and have spent a long time masking parts of themselves just to get through. That kind of experience can mess with your sense of self. You might second-guess your reactions and feel guilty, or not even be sure what you’re feeling half the time. Therapy with me is a place where you don’t have to have it all figured out. You don’t need a perfect explanation or a clear goal, we can just start with whatever feels most relevant.

Hi! I'm Bird- My ideal client is a professional helper, caregiver, or adolescents and adults who feel burned out, are questioning themselves, or quietly struggling with recovery, identity stress, or trauma. They’re often used to being the strong one and feel disconnected from their own needs. They want relief, clarity, and sustainable ways to live and work without losing themselves. I work well with generational cycle breakers, first in the family to seek help/go to therapy, individuals who are navigating identity and life shift, grief, loss, adjustment, and those healing from trauma caused by organized religion. I offer queer-affirming, trauma-informed therapy and therapeutic coaching for recovery, burnout, and moral injury. My work integrates IFS, Jungian psychology, DBT, and collaborative psychiatric care to support healing that is individualized, holistic, and grounded in lived experience. If you’re exhausted from holding it together or feel unseen in traditional therapy spaces, you’re not alone. You deserve care that honors your humanity, not just your productivity. I offer a collaborative, non-judgmental space to begin reconnecting with yourself, healing what you've been holding, and walking with you to set and reach your goals.

I'm a licensed counselor with a diverse background, I enjoyed working with those who were incarcerated make better choices for their future on the outside, working with those in active addiction trying to do something to make recovery possible, and working in a busy outpatient mental health clinic. I work with women navigating life transitions, including changes in relationships, family roles, and health. These experiences can bring anxiety, emotional overwhelm, and the effects of trauma into focus, and can influence how thoughts, emotions, and the body interact. As a yoga therapist and yoga teacher for over 25 years, mindfulness is a natural part of my work and informs how I understand and approach the mind body connection. I integrate mindfulness based stress reduction, mindfulness based cognitive therapy, and somatic therapy into sessions in a way that supports awareness and emotional regulation. By choosing to find a therapist you have taken that first step. I hold a Ph.D. in Counseling from Loyola University in MD. I have been in practice for close to 20 years now. I have experience working with depression, anxiety, trauma, LGBTQ issues, substance use, as well as the general life stressors we all experience in this face-paced, demanding world we live in whether that be work or relationships. Hi there! I’m Sarah :) Congratulations at taking the first step in reaching out to a counselor. I can understand how difficult it can be for some to make that decision. It can be hard to admit when someone feels like they need additional help in their lives to get things moving in a positive direction. It's important to recognize that this is not a flaw, and that teamwork is sometimes the best solution for an issue. I believe that the therapeutic relationship is very important and that you need to feel comfortable with someone to open up and trust. I would be honored to be a part of your journey to help you find your desired goals.

“My style of therapy draws from Cognitive Behavioral, Acceptance and Commitment therapy/mindfulness. My passion is for learning your story and working alongside you to find the solutions that work for you. I’m here to help you examine what you’ve already lived through and find the path forward. In my work with people with trauma I’ve learned that we often need the reminder – no matter what you have struggled with; you are a survivor and that needs to be brought to light. Keeping that in mind, I am guided by the client towards the goals that they feel are necessary for their treatment.”

I believe everyone deserves a space where they can be real, feel supported, and grow at their own pace. As a High School Counselor and Licensed Professional Counselor, I've spent the past 5 + years supporting adolescents and adults through life's transitions, challenges, and self-discovery. In our work together, I'm not just your therapist, but also your biggest supporter. I'll challenge you when needed, celebrate your wins (big and small), and create a space where you can show up exactly as you are. Outside of sessions, I love trying different workout classes - right now, Pilates is my favorite. It helps me stay grounded and reminds me how important it is to take care of both mind and body - something I truly believe in for the people, I work with too. I'm looking forward to connecting with you for a safe place to slow down!

Hello. I look forward to working with you. My own background is one of growing up on farms, having little money and ambitious dreams. I did not know what it was but I knew I wanted to go to college and get out of the tobacco fields. My dreams came true. I ended up being a psychologist and a teacher, spending decades working in residential treatment then in schools, the last 13 years working with preschoolers and their families to prepare them to succeed in school. As a teacher, I taught many college and university courses as well as workshops, most recently to address grief and trauma. I am also an artist, a dancer and a writer and like to bring co-creativity to others. In the early 1990's, I felt led to live and work at or near the world center of Quakers called Pendle Hill in PA. There I studied and taught Arts and Spirituality while also serving as a Psychologist in nearby schools. I came to see the importance of Co-Creativity (creating together a piece of life we truly want to live for). My specialties in the Arts have been writing, visual arts and dancing/movement from a "no wrong way" perspective. I incorporate these into the therapy process as they become beneficial. For much of my life, I have also been engaged with my own therapeutic process. Having been the client for several years, gives me the perspective of what might be important to you as we work together, never assuming I know or forgetting to ask you. In our sessions, I want to hear about you, find our starting points and from there develop action plans each session to work on the goals needed to find the life you dream of and are willing to work toward.

Frequently asked questions

Why filter by Pennsylvania rather than a city like Philadelphia?

When looking for online therapy, you can see anyone that is credentialed in Pennsylvania. We want you to find the best fit, therefore, Grow Therapy shows available therapists across Pennsylvania from Pittsburgh to Scranton! If you’d rather see someone in-person, you can change the filter from virtual and find a therapist near you in Pennsylvania.

Will my therapist take insurance?

When booking you’ll be asked to verify with your Member ID. However, if you don’t have any of the insurances available you can select cash. Our therapists will have their cost of appointment on their profile. Individual session costs will vary.

How does the Specialty Filter work? Can I find a therapist that focuses on Trauma and PTSD?

The specialty filter is optional. You don’t need to check any boxes to see a provider. However, fit is very important when selecting an online therapist. If you have knowledge or experience to recognize what specialties you may need. For example, your selected specialty, Trauma and PTSD, is filtering therapists in Pennsylvania that work with patients with similar concerns.

Why use Gender, Age, and Identities filters?

Finding a provider with a similar life experience can be beneficial because it can be easier to establish rapport and potentially be understood quicker and clearer.

What happens during the first therapy session?

Your first therapy session is for you and your therapist to meet each other and to ask any questions that you have about the counseling process. This is where you can expect your therapist to do the same as they will ask questions to gain insight into your specific situation. In this first session the therapist is doing their part to gather as much information so they can better assess if they are able to meet your therapeutic needs. Depending upon your provider's specialty, you may also discuss the methods the therapist will use. For additional information on therapy methods, please visit the Grow Therapy Help Center. Some people feel nervous before their first appointment, and that is totally normal! Coming prepared with a list of questions for your therapist may help. Remember, you're taking a brave step by seeking therapy, and it is okay to be nervous as you try something new.
