Greetings, my name is John Luke. I am a licensed clinical social worker and specialize in helping people to effectively manage anxiety, depression, and other mental health concerns using cognitive behavioral techniques. I have worked with a range of populations, nearly all ages, and also have experience with addiction treatment and life-coaching. I work with people to develop insight into the source of their problems, how their core beliefs about the world might be hindering their progress, and focus on their natural strengths to overcome those barriers with practical skills that generate sustainable change. Some of my other specialties include short-term, solution-focused therapy; cognitive behavioral therapy techniques; psychodynamic approaches; and marital counseling. Some of the problems I am particularly keen on solving with my clients include issues with self-image and confidence; dating and relationships; boundary-setting and assertive communication; as well as general anxiety management; and learning to identify and productively resolve emotional unrest. I am also very experienced in cognitive restructuring, which is just a fancy way of saying helping to change the way a person thinks about the world and their place in it. I also enjoy aiding people in goal setting and identification, meaning-making, and navigating family conflicts. If you feel any of this could be helpful or useful to you, please do not hesitate to reach out! (Note: I do work with couples, but only on a cash-pay basis. Also, I only work with ages 18+)

Welcome! I am Kimberly. I am a licensed clinical social worker with over 14 years of experience providing therapy. Many of us desire a sense of peace, connection, and well-being within ourselves and in our life. Yet life circumstances and even parts of ourselves can prevent us from having these experiences in our day to day lives. Providing a safe and non-judgmental place to explore your struggles and emotional pain is essential to my practice. I feel grateful to be able to support those who desire to grow and heal.

Hi there, I'm Laurie! Do you wish providers would look at you through a whole person lens instead of discussing health and mental health separately? Do you want a provider for your child who is playful and skilled at engaging children? Are you an adult who likes a more personal, connected approach to therapy? Do you have a teen who has had difficulty connecting to other providers? Well look no further! I enjoy using storytelling, videos, and conversation to help clients of all ages improve self-esteem, self-worth and gain a better understanding of sense of self. A licensed clinical social worker and board-certified supervisor with over 25 years of experience working with children, teens, and adults, I spent much of that time working for the world-renowned Kennedy Krieger Institute, a Johns Hopkins affiliate, where I was also in leadership. I have post-graduate certificates in Treating Children & Adolescents, Leadership, Fitness Nutrition, and Integrative Medicine for Mental Health providers. More personally, I love hiking, watching Marvel movies, lifting weights, and crowd surfing at concerts. I believe we should never stop playing like children!

Welcome! I'm an LCSW-C in Maryland and earned my MSW at the University of Maryland at Baltimore. I've been practicing over thirty five years and because I've loved the time I've spent in this work, the time has flown! I've worked in the mental health industry at many levels, and this helps me understand how to connect clients with the best type and level of treatment for them. My experience includes private practice/outpatient, inpatient care as well as running an innovative intensive outpatient care program for active seniors as a clinical director. I've also work for organizations which reviewed care, collaborating with the treating provider to ensure the quality of care is of the highest it can be. As a social worker, I was trained from day one to provide client-centered, strengths-based, unconditionally positive regard, 'person in an environment' therapy. This means that I begin where the client is, and I focus throughout on building and maintaining a therapeutic relationship that supports my client in helping them use our work to achieve what is important to them. I avoid using too many labels and/or medicalizing my client, and because I look at people as not just individuals but as embedded in various life environments, I teach my clients to understand themselves in those contexts as well as how they can better navigate their thoughts and behaviors within the various parts of their lives with greater emotional and behavioral success. Having worked closely with psychiatrists and various prescribers (nurse practitioners, physician assistants, CRNP's, etc.) over the years, I've gained extensive knowledge on how to direct clients regarding who to see/where to go regarding medical concerns and medication issues. It is important, for example, to rule out at certain times, particular medical issues which may be causing mental health symptoms.

I also have extensive knowledge and sensitivity in working with individuals experiencing anxiety, depression, bipolar, difficult life transitions, parenting issues, relationship problems, LGBTQIA issues and other life challenges. My understanding of counseling comes from many different theoretical orientations. I believe that the client or clients have the solutions to their dilemmas within one’s self. Therefore the counselor does not have the “answers” to the client’s “problem” but is a facilitator of the process that helps the client take responsibility and action and come to a resolution. I am here to support and guide you on that journey.

Often our thoughts and subsequently what we teach ourselves becomes rigid and fairly black and white. Using a pragmatic and authentic approach to therapy I help others to be okay with things that are beyond their control and work with them to establish themselves as the protagonist in their own story. This is primarily accomplished through conversation and allowing you the client to guide the therapy in the direction it needs to go.

First of all, I love what I do and to witness the positive changes clients make in their lives as a result of choosing therapy to help them accomplish what they want. Often the goal is to achieve symptom relief so as to not be overwhelmed by anxiety, mood disorders or be better able to manage the challenges of ADHD. Sometimes there is not a specific outcome identified but a need for ongoing support for dealing with life transitions or difficult people. Sometimes clients use therapy as a confidential sounding board where they can talk to an objective outsider about situations and sort out their perception of situations. I offer various ways to see and respond to situations that might otherwise not be considered. Your opinion as a client is the most important one and I will also honestly provide mine when asked for. I believe therapy can actually be something that you can look forward to and an opportunity to learn new skills to use long after you discontinue, and we can even have some fun and laughs along the journey.

Hello! Thanks for visiting my profile. I’m originally from Philadelphia and now based in Baltimore. I went to graduate school at the University of Texas at Austin, where I studied Social Work and Latin American Studies. I have worked in the social services field for over 15 years and have been a licensed social worker and practicing therapist for 7 years. Most of my experience has consisted of working with survivors of violence (family, intimate partner, and/or sexual violence) as well as with Spanish-speaking immigrants. I enjoy working with caregivers and their children and with mixed status immigrant families. Although I am not Hispanic/Latine, I lived in Peru for about 5 years and speak Spanish fluently, so I am comfortable providing therapy in Spanish. At this time, I specialize in supporting adolescents and young adults who are managing anxiety or undergoing life changes. As a community organizer myself, I also enjoy supporting fellow organizers who are experiencing burnout. I provide tele-therapy to individuals ages 13+. For clients under 16, I incorporate the parent/caregiver into sessions on a regular basis. Additionally, I provide psychological evaluations in English and Spanish for immigrant clients who are looking to support their legal cases (asylum, U-Visa, VAWA, and extreme hardship waivers). Because these are completely separate from therapy sessions, please schedule a consultation call only so that we can discuss this option.

Are you feeling a little “off” lately? Down, anxious or unsure what comes next in life, especially after the last year or so? Or it could be you just don’t feel like yourself and you’re not sure why. You are not alone. To have problems means that you are human; but there is hope. I provide a warm, accepting space for people to explore what matters to them and what’s getting in their way. I help clients learn to feel more comfortable with their emotions, to experiment with different ways of relating to their thoughts and feelings, to cultivate resilience, and to develop the self-trust and self-compassion that will support them along their paths. Therapy provides you with a place to work on and work out your concerns, to be heard and reflect, and to take some space for yourself. Together, we will explore the underlying reasons for your troubles, what it might mean for you to “feel better” and begin to live a more productive, meaningful and engaged life. I use an integrative approach consisting of cognitive behavioral therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy and mindfulness-based interventions.

Even though you may be struggling with something right now, you can choose to: see it in a new way... feel differently about it... be open to change... and ultimately, transform. Everything you need is already within you. My role is to help you access it, and use it. I bring curiosity, empathy, and evidence-based therapies -- usually leading with mind-body approaches (e.g., EFT tapping, energy work, breathwork, mindfulness meditation) and the principles of ACT (acceptance and commitment therapy), and spiraling out from there as your story leads us. You bring openness, willingness to practice, and neuroplasticity, and you can change -- literally re-wire -- your brain. When you do, you'll be amazed at the cascade of positive changes this creates... not only within you, but all around you in your life. I'm a licensed mental health professional (LCSW-C) in Maryland and have experience as a social worker and therapist working with children and adults of all ages and backgrounds, providing individual and family therapy in a variety of settings (community mental health agency, schools, inpatient and outpatient healthcare). I learn something valuable from each client with whom I'm privileged to work, and deeply appreciate the insights I gain through our work together. It is hard to be vulnerable in therapy. While I don't know your story and your journey (yet), I do know that if you are considering therapy, you are already doing the hard work of introspection. It takes courage to seek out more for yourself. You already have my respect and my empathy, and I would love to be part of your journey of healing and discovery.

Hello and welcome. My name is Barb and I am an LCSW-C located in Frederick County, MD. Over the past 2 decades in the mental health field, I have developed a comprehensive understanding of various therapeutic techniques and methodologies from working in clinical out-patient and hospital based settings with children, teens, couples and adults. For the past 11 years, I've been doing private practice based work and have been primarily virtual since 2023. I attended the University of Maryland at College Park for my Bachelor’s in Psychology and then received my Masters in Clinical Social Work (with a minor in Program Administration) from the University of Maryland in Baltimore in 2001. I currently provide telehealth therapy to adult women ages 18-65 years old experiencing depression, anxiety, ADHD, low self esteem, single motherhood, burnout from career, family responsibilities, and relationships, problems in their marriage, family or personal life, chronic health/medical issues that impact mental health, and trauma from current or past relationships. I also work with women dealing with fertility issues, complicated pregnancy, infant loss, premature delivery, and post partum mental health and adjustment issues. I have a lot of experience working with teachers and nurses. Also, being a single mother myself, I'm aware of the unique challenges single moms deal with and can offer a relatable perspective to women in this satiation. **I currently do not provide therapy to men.** As a Christian, I'm happy to discuss with you how to use Scripture, prayer and your relationship with God to support you in your path to wellness, health and healing in your sessions if that is something that is important to you. I am open to clients of all faiths and backgrounds. If your faith or spiritual beliefs are important to you, we can discuss how to integrate those into our sessions.

Welcome! Congratulations on taking the courageous first step of seeking out a therapist. It is an act of bravery and courage to explore what is impacting you or your child. Contacting a therapist can feel intimidating and overwhelming, but I hope you will take a minute (and maybe a few deep breaths) to see how I can help. I specialize in treating children, teens, and young adults. I have been working in the mental health field for over 7 years, including over 4 years in a residential treatment setting treating children struggling with anxiety, depression, ADHD, ASD, and PTSD, as well as other diagnoses. I utilize TF-CBT, mindfulness, and other modalities in my practice. Thank you for considering me to be a part of your journey!

Are you feeling depressed and anxious? Are you finding your life is in turmoil because you have to make a change? Maybe you are changing careers or jobs, you’re recently divorced, your home is now an empty nest, or you are retiring. These are only a few of life’s transitions that can bring on depression and anxiety. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, the therapy I use most often, states that A (Antecedent action or event) + B (our belief about that antecedent action or event) = Consequences, (depression or happiness). If you think of a transition or event (A) as a negative experience (B), you will experience the consequences of your belief, as depression and anxiety (C-negative) or as happiness and excitement (C-positive). Unfortunately, many of us view a transition or change as a bad thing, a time when we are facing the unknown without a map. I would like to help you see change as an opportunity, a time for growth and exploration. Come with me. Together we can make change a positive force for a bright future. please schedule appoints only on the hour.😀

I am a licensed clinical therapist, licensed in Virginia, Washington, DC, Maryland, Florida, Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, and Utah. Some of the most prominent issues couples face are growing resentment in one or both parties followed by an inability to effectively communicate the challenges that led to the resentment. I truly enjoy working with couples to gain a better mutual understanding of the challenges they are facing, what led to some areas of resentment, and how to communicate these things in a healthy and productive way.

Frequently asked questions

Why filter by Maryland rather than a city like Baltimore?

When looking for online therapy, you can see anyone that is credentialed in the state. We want you to find the best fit, therefore, Grow Therapy shows available therapists across Maryland from Hagerstown to Ocean City! If you’d rather see someone in-person, you can change the filter from virtual and find a therapist near you in Maryland.

Will my therapist take insurance?

When booking you’ll be asked to verify with your Member ID. However, if you don’t have any of the insurances available you can select cash. Our therapists will have their cost of appointment on their profile. Individual session costs will vary.

How does the Specialty Filter work? Can I find a therapist that focuses on a specific issue?

The specialty filter is optional. You don’t need to check any boxes to see a provider. However, fit is very important when selecting an online therapist. If you have knowledge or experience to recognize what specialties you may need.

What are the "Clients say I'm" badges?

Grow Therapy asks patients about their experience with therapists after they have had a certain number of sessions. After enough responses, we add those characteristics to their profiles to help you find the best online therapists for you. We're still working on collecting this information from all our therapists.

Why use Gender, Age, and Identities filters?

Finding a provider with a similar life experience can be beneficial because it can be easier to establish rapport and potentially be understood quicker and clearer.

What to expect during your first session?

Your first therapy session is for you and your therapist to meet each other and to ask any questions that you have about the counseling process. This is where you can expect your therapist to do the same as they will ask questions to gain insight into your specific situation. In this first session the therapist is doing their part to gather as much information so they can better assess if they are able to meet your therapeutic needs.

Depending upon your provider's specialty, you may also discuss the methods the therapist will use. For additional information on therapy methods, please visit the Grow Therapy Help Center. Some people feel nervous before their first appointment, and that is totally normal! Coming prepared with a list of questions for your therapist may help. Remember, you're taking a brave step by seeking therapy, and it is okay to be nervous as you try something new.
