(she/her)
Hello! I am so glad that you are here. I have over 12 years of clinical work experience and experience working with a variety of populations. After completing an undergraduate degree in Social Work, I completed my Masters of Social Work at the University of Maryland School of Social Work in 2013. I have also completed a post graduate certificate in Childhood trauma. At this time, my primary practice areas are anxiety disorders, college students, young professionals, family of origin issues, adult children of alcoholics, parents of neurodivergent children, parenting small children, depression, phase of life and relationship issues, women’s issues, perinatal mental health and LGBTQ issues. I work with individuals of all genders over the age of 16. However, I am most passionate about working with women and the LGBTQ population. ***If you can not find a time that works with your schedule, please reach out to me, as I may have more availability than shown.*** NOTE: I prefer to schedule a consultation prior to the intake, in order to determine whether we are a good fit for each other. Occasionally, there are situations in which it is determined during the intake that we are not the right fit.
In our first session, I will review practice policies, discuss limits of confidentiality and collect background information such as symptoms, family history, strengths, and stressors. The content of follow up sessions will based on the needs of the client. Clients can expect me to be an active participant practicing through a trauma informed and gender affirming approach.
My approach is nonjudgemental and I have been told by previous clients that my approach is nonthreatening and gentle. I believe that my clients are the experts in their own lives and I will work with you at a comfortable pace.

Eclectic
I describe myself as an eclectic therapist because I draw from multiple modalities in order to tailor my approach to a client's individual needs.
Internal Family Systems (IFS)
During the fall of 2023, I completed an introductory course in Internal Family Systems. I am in the early stages of developing competency in this treatment approach.
Psychoeducation
I consider psychoeducation to be a vital aspect to every treatment approach. It is essential that clients are educated in treatment approaches as well as neuropsychological mechanisms that contribute to symptoms.

I haven't met with a therapist that makes me feel comfortable, or heard in a long time, as I'm not someone who can easily fill conversation space. I have been to a many therapists that I don't "click" with right of the bat, but I feel like I was able to form a quick connection and felt welcomed. Joy Hurley made me feel encouraged, and hopeful about sessions and goals. She was warm, professional, and non- judgemental. I'm looking forward to meeting our goals with her guidance!
