Hi I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor. I received my Master's Degree in 2010 from Loyola University and have been seeing clients since then . I especially enjoy helping adults deal with stressful transitions and challenges in life. My goal is to help clients gain insight and understanding about their challenges so that we together can find helpful solutions.
In the first session I like to spend some time getting to know my clients; it helps to be able to understand the stresses that they deal with on a daily basis. We then get into a more thorough discussion of whatever challenges the clients are facing. We also decide goals that the clients want to achieve through these sessions. This information helps me set up treatment plans to reach the goals.
After getting to know and understand the challenges the client faces, I want to help the client gain insight about the problem and discover the root cause so that they can make the best decisions for themselves.
My goal is for clients to become aware of how their thoughts, and feelings influence their daily lives. It is especially important for clients to understand how various patterns of thought can contribute to anxiety issues or depression. Helping them understand that they can take power over their lives by understanding how thoughts and feeling play vital roles in determining how their day will be.
Beside helping clients deal with their problems it is also important to focus on the characteristics, attributes and talents which will help them flourish in life.
So many clients have modeled their lives based on the lives/beliefs and opinions of their caregivers. So Unfortunately the information they received as a young child often works against them as an adult and often they end up in an unhealthy relationships. Through psychoeducation and therapy clients can experience freedom from unhealthy attachments.
Many of us grow up with beliefs acquired as children that work against us as adults. These unrealistic beliefs often cause conflict with partners, friends or family members. Many times, through these false beliefs we expect others to meet a deep need that they cannot meet. This can cause distress and misunderstanding in many relationships. As a therapist I want client sto understand how false beliefs acquired early in life can hinder them and teach them how to change the believes that will work in their favor as adults.
