Welcome. My name is Dr. Susan Boyer. If you are reading this, chances are you're dealing with something that has been weighing heavily on you. You're not alone and together we can help you find lasting relief, growth, a sense of well-being and meaningful change. I am a Licensed Psychologist (Ph.D.) with 30+ years experience helping adults understand and change long-standing patterns in their lives and relationships.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

In your first session, we'll talk about some of the challenges or struggles you're currently facing. We'll go over things that you've tried in the past that may or may not have worked. We'll come up with some ideas about what you would like to work on, going forward. You will have the opportunity to see whether my therapeutic style feels like a good fit. Some clients feel satisfied with improvements made in a few sessions, while others remain in therapy for a longer period of time, in order to more fully address their issues. Some clients attend sessions on a weekly basis, while others attend therapy more or less frequently, depending on their needs and treatment goals. These are options for you to consider.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

I provide a safe, supportive space where you will feel seen, heard and understood. It is my priority to meet each client where they are in their process, to consider their unique set of life circumstances and to tailor their treatment accordingly.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

I work best with thoughtful, capable adults who are ready to look more deeply at patterns in their lives. Many of my clients are dealing with anxiety, relationship challenges, or the lasting impact of earlier experiences, and are looking for more than short-term coping—they want real understanding and meaningful change. I’m especially well suited for people who feel stuck, dissatisfied, or disconnected in ways that aren’t always visible to others. I also work with clients navigating trauma, loss, and complex family dynamics, helping them make sense of their experiences and move forward with greater clarity and self-trust. My approach is insight-oriented, collaborative, and grounded. Clients who benefit most are open to reflection and interested in building a more intentional, authentic way of living.

My treatment methods

Eclectic

I believe each client is unique. My approach to treatment is Eclectic, allowing for treatment to be tailored to your individual needs.

Mindfulness-Based Therapy

I encourage clients to pay attention to and focus their thoughts, despite the inevitable ways minds wander. The goal is to recognize thoughts as mere mental events and to learn to view them objectively in a way that is loving and kind to oneself. With practice, you can learn to gently shift unhelpful or irrational thoughts, stay grounded in the present moment, and avoid getting stuck in negative thinking patterns. Over time, you’ll find it easier to respond to yourself with greater patience, empathy, and kindness.

Psychodynamic

Psychodynamic therapy is about gently exploring how your past experiences shape the way you feel and relate now, so you can understand yourself more deeply and find new ways forward.

Trauma Informed Care

Trauma-informed therapy focuses on the root causes of distress by asking, “What happened to you?” instead of “What’s wrong with you?” This approach emphasizes understanding your complete history — both past and present — to provide effective therapeutic care. Trauma-informed care involves being mindful of potential triggers to prevent re-traumatization, ensuring a safer therapeutic journey.

Acceptance and commitment (ACT)

ACT is about learning to make room for tough thoughts and feelings, while gently guiding your actions toward the life that feels most meaningful to you.

Very well educated in several modalities that can be learned as added tools when identifying feelings and moving through them to result in a healthy life, and achieving “a life worth living.”
