About me

Kevin Smith is a Licensed Clinical Practicing Counselor (LCPC)) in the state of Maryland. He has over 12 years of substance use disorder treatment experience and two years of mental health therapy experience. He specializes in dealing with depression, bipolar, PTSD, schizophrenia and anxiety disorders. Kevin completed his Master's degree in Counseling Psychology at Capella University in 2014. He is a former substance abuser with 21 years of sobriety and has overcome a myriad of disabilities and childhood traumas in his own life. This coupled with his professional experiences, enables him to provide the guidance, support, and encouragement his clients are seeking. Kevin utilizes a wide variety of therapy techniques, including but not limited to, CBT, motivational interviewing, person-centered therapy, existentialism, EMDR and solution-focused therapy modalities. In our first session together, here's what you can expect

. Together, we will identify your challenges and goals - where you want your life to be a month, six months, a year from now. Then, we'll identify options and strategies you can use to get there. You'll leave the session with a better understanding of what you're facing with an "actions I can take right now" approach. There will always be room for suggestions concerning our work together, including keeping each other accountable.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

I have a innate ability to cross economic, racial, and cultural lines to reach clients right where they are. An ability to raise, address, and heal the deeper feelings and thoughts one has surrounding past traumas and the meaning of life on a deeper level.

Person-centered (Rogerian)

I will utilize person center therapy techniques that will make you the center of therapy person center approaches mean that you are the star of therapy and it’s about you and what you wanna tackle or accomplish

Mindfulness-Based Therapy

Are utilize mindfulness based therapy techniques to assist you in becoming more self-aware of your thoughts feelings and emotions. Mindfulness therapy will teach you the ability to be able to sit with your thoughts, feelings or emotions and not be reactive.

EMDR

EMDR therapy is something I utilize to help you process past traumas that are often been repressed into the subconscious or unconscious mind yet still have an effect on your current daily functioning. EMDR will give you the power to bring these traumas to the conscious process the emotions and related feelings and change negative thought patterns of a result of the trauma.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I utilize cognitive behavioral therapy to assist you and identifying negative behaviors or thought patterns that impact your daily function. CBT will challenge these negative behaviors or negative beliefs, and assist you in replacing them with more positive thoughts or behaviors.
