With all of my clients, the priority is to connect – connection breeds trust – trust breeds comfort – and when you’re comfortable within your environment, you have a good foundation from which to start venturing down the path of your individualized therapy. When you feel comfortable enough to be honest about your anxiety, depression, intrusive thoughts, relationship struggles, trauma, or life stressors, real work can begin. The reason why I choose the work I do, is because psychology is incredibly dynamic – no two people are the same. Many of us share similar moments in life, but the way in which those experiences affect us, is as individualized as each person I work with. That’s why I don’t believe in one-size-fits-all therapy, your story deserves its own structure.

I bring both professional and personal experience to my work as a therapist. Having a Bipolar 1 diagnosis has given me a unique perspective on the challenges of navigating the institutional and often stigmatized aspects of mental health and the impact on day-to-day life. This lived experience allows me to approach therapy with empathy, a genuine curiosity and appreciation for each client’s journey, while also emphasizing overall holistic living for optimal wellness of mind and body. Professionally, I’ve worked in psychiatric residential treatment, addiction medicine, youth detention and private practice settings. These experiences have strengthened my ability to support clients through a wide range of concerns from mild to severe forms of mental health challenges and their impact on daily living. I integrate a lot of somatic and sensory-based tools focusing on emotion and nervous system regulation, including brainspotting, drumming, sound therapy, aromatherapy, meditation techniques and other mindfulness tools, along with an emphasis on nature therapy, nutrition in relation to mental health and sleep hygiene. Alongside these approaches, I draw from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) to examine and reframe unhelpful thought patterns, strengthen emotion regulation, and collaborate with clients to develop the most applicable coping strategies in those areas. I have extensive experience supporting clients with addictions, complex PTSD/trauma history, ADHD, BPD, bipolar and schizophrenia, among others. "Based on your exceptional client engagement and outstanding care, you’ve officially qualified as a 2026 Grow Therapy Thriver! 🎉 (roughly 600 out of 25,000+ providers) This recognition reflects the meaningful relationships you build with clients from the start and the trust you inspire through your work. At 18 I was blessed to have a therapist who knew exactly how to talk to me and what to say, even if he was injecting humor into a humorless situation. I help my clients to let the trust and rapport build over the first few session, during which I start to pick the tools I'll use to stabilize and then engage in a more meaningful, psychodynamic way. I am a Rogerian and Existential therapist, which translates into unconditional positive regard for my clients, the action of highlighting any success, even if it's a small one, and building on pre-existing strengths. I am meeting my clients where they're at - wherever they are on life's journey, and my intention is to travel down that road along with them, opening each door, witnessing the pain, but always experiencing these challenges together so that the therapist is holding the space and creating a safe parameter within which symptoms, cognitive distortions, and trauma can be processed. I encourage clients to show up for their appointments as continuity is key to success when dealing with mental health issues.

I've been a therapist for about eight years with a keen eye for helping others find deeper meaning through their hardships, a calming presence capable of modeling self-regulation, and a reliable ear for those that need to unload their perceived stress across different life chapters. I also offer a modern, diverse openness for cultural understanding as I am a male Latino fluent in Spanish, have Asian ethnicity, and am first-generation American. I can also empathize with perceived struggles as I grew up with low SES, was greatly affected by a custody battle into my teenage years, and became the primary healthcare agent for my father-figure until his passing from cancer during my early twenties. In more recent years, I learned the differences in transitioning from the role of a stepfather to becoming a father of a newborn. Understanding one's own pain from their story is key to learning the balancing act of validating and/or differentiating how to help others process their felt pain. I offer my therapeutic services as your existential teammate who will metaphorically walk by your side along your therapeutic journey.

Hello, I’m Nizhu—a licensed therapist with over 9 years of clinical experience, specializing in men’s mental health, trauma recovery, and motivational interventions. My style is warm, collaborative, and direct—because healing doesn’t have to be stiff, and growth rarely happens in silence. Expect real conversations, grounded techniques, and the occasional well-timed joke (because, yes, therapy can be both effective and human). I enjoy working collaboratively to develop goals that are realistic, meaningful, and lead to positive change. I view therapy as a journey—one that helps you find steadier footing and supports you as you move along your unique path. Although much of my background has been in public service settings working with severe mental illness, acute crises, and trauma, I welcome concerns of any size. No problem is too small or too overwhelming to bring into therapy. I invite you to give the therapy process a chance to work for you! I have been in the behavioral health field for more than 30 years and have been licensed since 2012. I have a practical, down-to-Earth style with an open-minded, solution focused approach. There is likely no issue too complicated or difficult for me to work with. I like to establish a clear treatment path with attainable goals, making it easier for you. I encourage you to give the therapy process a chance to work for you. My goal is to offer steady support and thoughtful guidance as you discover a healing path that truly fits your life. My name is Javi Gonzalez, and I am a Hispanic therapist originally from Mexico. My personal and professional background has shaped the way I connect with clients, especially men from the Latino/Hispanic community who are navigating addiction, depression, cultural identity, family expectations, relationship conflict, anxiety, and stress. I understand that many Latino men are taught to stay strong, keep problems private, and carry emotional pain alone. In therapy, I work to create a space where clients can be honest without feeling judged. My style is direct, respectful, practical, and compassionate. I believe clients deserve both support and honest feedback as they work toward meaningful change and resolve your problems. My own life experiences have given me a deep respect for resilience, survival, and the effort it takes to build a different future. I know that issues like poverty, cultural pressure, family responsibility, community violence, immigration experiences, and addiction can deeply affect how a person sees themselves and relates to others. I help clients identify unhealthy patterns, develop better coping skills, improve communication, and build healthier relationships with themselves, their partners, and their families. I especially enjoy working with Spanish-speaking clients who want therapy that feels culturally familiar, honest, and focused on real-life progress. My goal is to help clients feel understood, take responsibility for change, and move toward a more stable, healthy, and meaningful life.

Currently not accepting couples, fully accepting you! I work exclusively with adults in individual therapy. If you’ve been stuck in the endless therapist scroll, trying to figure out who actually feels safe, relatable, and honest enough to open up to... welcome! I hold a Master of Social Work (MSW) from the University of Iowa with an emphasis in mental health. This background allows me to approach your concerns with a holistic and informed perspective. Many of the people I work with are carrying anxiety, depression, emotional overwhelm, relationship stress, identity exploration, burnout, anger, shame, grief, or the pressure of always having to “hold it together.” Some feel disconnected from themselves. Others are tired of surviving and want to start living more intentionally. My approach is warm, grounded, direct, and deeply human. Therapy with me is not about analyzing you from a distance or pretending to have all the answers. It is a collaborative space where you can slow down, speak honestly, make sense of your experiences, and begin responding to yourself and your life differently. Clients often tell me they appreciate that I balance compassion with honesty. I will support you, challenge you when needed, and help you notice patterns that may no longer serve you without judgment or shame. I work best with clients who are open to reflection, ready for meaningful change, and willing to engage in the process at their own pace. If you’re looking for a therapist who feels authentic, conversational, and intentional in the work, we may be a good fit.

My name is Farbod. I am a second generation Persian-American. My own background continues to shape the way I approach this work. Growing up in California I often felt caught between two cultures—never quite fitting into either. I approach therapy through a combination of learning skills to work through stress, guiding clients to better understanding themselves, and a space to be heard. I also am an avid gamer (tabletop and video games), home cook, and runner.

Hello, my name is Michael Chavez, LCSW, and I provide individual therapy to adults facing a variety of challenges, including anxiety, depression, work related stress, and relationship issues. I understand how tough life can be. Before I became a therapist, I went through my own challenges — unhoused, unemployed, and struggling with substance use. Getting sober and working my way through college wasn’t easy, but it shaped the way I show up for others now: with understanding, patience, and zero judgment.

"Life is a journey, travel it well." I believe we're all on our own individual journeys of life that sometimes put us in valleys and sometimes on top of hills. When it comes to the valleys, sometimes it's alright to reach out to someone for a little guidance and help. Hi, my name is Ryan and I'm a licensed marriage and family therapist. One of my favorite parts of my own journey has been navigating the complexities of young adult life stages from college, to work, romance and beyond. But whether or not it's life transitions or just a need for someone to journey along side you during a difficult time, I am here to help.

Trauma can hurt long after the painful events are over. It creeps into our relationships and makes it hard to love and trust others. Often, even more painfully, it makes it hard to love and trust ourselves. Often we try to ignore it, avoid it, try to forget it, but the hurt and memories always seem to come back. Maybe you find it hard to trust others, unsure if they are safe. Maybe you notice you are a "people pleaser", worried about making others happy but not happy yourself. If people in your life have hurt you, I want you to know that you are not alone, and healing is possible. As a trauma therapist, I will help you connect how the story of your past echoes into your present. I will support you in identifying the hangups that get you stuck and help you to get a foothold in your life. As you heal from your past and harmful coping, I will support you with taking control of your life and moving towards the goals you've hoped for. I have the best job in the world. It's an incredible experience to connect to people, many whom have never been able to safely share about themselves, and help them feel heard, validated, and supported. Starting therapy can be nerve-wracking, but if you are interested, or even curious, I'd be happy to work with you.

Hello there! My name is Justin Altman, and I'm a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. My approach to therapy is simple; I'm here to provide non-judgmental and positive support to my clients while occasionally applying a little gentle pressure to encourage them to grow and ultimately thrive. While my primary area of focus is working with individuals in the LGBTQ+, Polyamory/Open relationship, and Kink/BDSM communities, throughout my career I have worked with individuals from all walks of life to help them overcome the barriers keeping them from achieving their goals. At this time, I am accepting only clients for individual therapy - not couples/families.

Frequently asked questions

When looking for online therapy, you can see anyone that is credentialed in California. We want you to find the best fit, therefore, Grow Therapy shows available therapists across California from San Francisco to San Diego! If you’d rather see someone in-person, you can change the filter from virtual and find a therapist near you in California.

When booking you’ll be asked to verify with your Member ID. However, if you don’t have any of the insurances available you can select cash. Our therapists will have their cost of appointment on their profile. Individual session costs will vary.

The specialty filter is optional. You don’t need to check any boxes to see a provider. However, fit is very important when selecting an online therapist. If you have knowledge or experience to recognize what specialties you may need.

Finding a provider with a similar life experience can be beneficial because it can be easier to establish rapport and potentially be understood quicker and clearer.

Your first therapy session is for you and your therapist to meet each other and to ask any questions that you have about the counseling process. This is where you can expect your therapist to do the same as they will ask questions to gain insight into your specific situation. In this first session the therapist is doing their part to gather as much information so they can better assess if they are able to meet your therapeutic needs. Depending upon your provider's specialty, you may also discuss the methods the therapist will use. For additional information on therapy methods, please visit the Grow Therapy Help Center. Some people feel nervous before their first appointment, and that is totally normal! Coming prepared with a list of questions for your therapist may help. Remember, you're taking a brave step by seeking therapy, and it is okay to be nervous as you try something new.
