My focus is on cognitive behavioral therapy and complicated grief therapy. Sometimes we have to face our losses to be able to move forward, sometimes we have to confront our negative thoughts to clear our mind and focus on what is in front of us now. We try to cope with the world’s challenges based on the values and strengths we built during childhood, but there are many ways to rekindle our creativity and joy as adults to re imagine a new path. I am a compassionate listener who can hold a non- judgemental space for patients to share their beliefs, desires and concerns.

My inspiration to become a therapist came from my parents, who immigrated to the United States with resilience, compassion, and determination to create a better life. Watching them navigate barriers and still build a small business taught me the importance of perseverance, growth, and kindness. That same compassion fuels the work I do with my clients today. For over a decade, I’ve worked in advocacy and mental health, serving underprivileged and underserved communities primarily the Latinx community. I support individuals from many walks of life, including those struggling with trauma, anxiety, depression, postpartum challenges, PTSD, multigenerational trauma, and relationship difficulties.

Hola! Just pause for a moment and give yourself credit for taking the first step toward bettering your mental health. I know it can feel empowering, confusing, and maybe even a little scary all at once, but you're here, and that's a huge step in itself. I'm a bilingual Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) based in Southern California. I have been practicing for about 4 years and my clinical experience includes collaborative work with children, adolescents, adults, and families who have high-intensity needs—whether they are dealing with complex trauma, significant emotional dysregulation, cultural and societal pressures, or severe mental health conditions. My work with clients involves building trust, providing a safe space, and utilizing interventions that are designed to help clients manage their emotional distress, regulate their behavior, and work toward long-term change. I use the strengths-based approach not only to foster hope and self-efficacy but also encourage a collaborative, non-judgmental therapeutic relationship where you will feel seen for who you are, rather than just your challenges. I will be patient with you to allow you to make change at your own pace. At the same time, challenging you gently and with respect can push you beyond your comfort zones and help you confront limiting beliefs or behaviors that may be holding you back. It would be both an honor and a privilege to accompany you on this part of your journey. "The human race has only one effective weapon, and that is laughter." – Mark Twain

Due to a back injury which prevents me from sitting for long periods of time, I am only taking individual female clients over the age of 18 for telephone sessions. I enjoy spending quality time with friends and family, comedy, theatre, filmmaking, creative writing, improvisation, nature, traveling, film and television, documentaries, dancing and making art of all kinds. I graduated from the High School for Performing and Visual Arts in Houston, Texas. In college, I studied theatre, documentary film and creative writing. I have a BA from Columbia College Chicago. While in Chicago, I was on the faculty at the Second City Training Center where I directed and co-wrote original sketch comedy revues and taught acting and improvisation to children, teens and adults. I received my master's in clinical psychology from Antioch University Los Angeles. I am currently based in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Maybe you're just feeling lost, tired, overwhelmed, in shock, and just in need of some extra support. I get it, life can be freaking hard sometimes — full of highs, lows, and everything in between. It’s completely normal to feel like it’s all too much. But here’s the truth: there is nothing wrong with you, and you don’t need to be “fixed.” Feeling lost or stuck doesn’t mean you’ve failed. It simply means you’re navigating the complexities of life and your human experience. You are worthy of support as you move through life’s challenges. Whether you’re seeking relief from trauma, ADHD, anxiety, burnout, struggles with self-esteem, or a major life transition—or simply trying to find yourself again—you deserve the space to do deep inner work and uncover what is waiting to heal within you. I know it can feel overwhelming, but you don’t have to do it alone I’m here to offer a safe space where you can show up as your full self and feel truly seen, heard, and held through it all. I’ll hype you up, keep it real, and probably make you laugh—all while helping you connect the dots in ways you have not explored. I'll encourage you to feel because healing isn’t just about talking—it’s about feeling, releasing, and reclaiming your power. As a holistic therapist, I see you as so much more than a set of symptoms.I see the whole you. Your mind, body, soul, and spirit are all deeply connected, and true healing happens when we honor all parts of you. Together, we’ll develop compassion and resilience while creating space for healing and lasting change.

Hi, I’m Zirley Macias, LCSW, a bilingual (English | Spanish) therapist who meets with California adults via secure tele-health. For the past nine years I’ve helped clients untangle anxiety, stress, depression, trauma, and relationship pain points so they can return to feeling like themselves again—or discover an even healthier version. My style is warm, personable, and a bit quirky; clients describe our sessions as equal parts safe space and springboard for change. I weave evidence-based tools—Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Solution-Focused Therapy, strength-based work, and, when requested, Christian counseling—into practical “between-session” exercises that turn insight into daily life skills. Whether you’re navigating a major life transition, rebuilding boundaries, or simply tired of feeling stuck, my goal is to partner with you in finding realistic solutions and sustainable hope.

Search therapists by insurance

Frequently asked questions

Why filter by California rather than a city like LA?

When looking for online therapy, you can see anyone that is credentialed in the state. We want you to find the best fit, therefore, Grow Therapy shows available therapists across California from San Francisco to San Diego! If you’d rather see someone in-person, you can change the filter from virtual and find a therapist near you in California.

Will my therapist take insurance?

When booking you’ll be asked to verify with your Member ID. However, if you don’t have any of the insurances available you can select cash. Our therapists will have their cost of appointment on their profile. Individual session costs will vary.

How does the Specialty Filter work? Can I find a therapist that focuses on a specific issue?

The specialty filter is optional. You don’t need to check any boxes to see a provider. However, fit is very important when selecting an online therapist. If you have knowledge or experience to recognize what specialties you may need.

What are the "Clients say I'm" badges?

Grow Therapy asks patients about their experience with therapists after they have had a certain number of sessions. After enough responses, we add those characteristics to their profiles to help you find the best online therapists for you. We're still working on collecting this information from all our therapists.

Why use Gender, Age, and Identities filters?

Finding a provider with a similar life experience can be beneficial because it can be easier to establish rapport and potentially be understood quicker and clearer.

What to expect during your first session?

Your first therapy session is for you and your therapist to meet each other and to ask any questions that you have about the counseling process. This is where you can expect your therapist to do the same as they will ask questions to gain insight into your specific situation. In this first session the therapist is doing their part to gather as much information so they can better assess if they are able to meet your therapeutic needs.

Depending upon your provider's specialty, you may also discuss the methods the therapist will use. For additional information on therapy methods, please visit the Grow Therapy Help Center. Some people feel nervous before their first appointment, and that is totally normal! Coming prepared with a list of questions for your therapist may help. Remember, you're taking a brave step by seeking therapy, and it is okay to be nervous as you try something new.
