My name is J.P. De Oliveira Estevão, and I’m a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (L.P.C.C.). I provide a supportive, collaborative space where clients can explore challenges, build insight, and work toward meaningful change. I use proven methods like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Humanistic approaches, and Adlerian ideas to customize treatment just for you. My goal is to help you understand yourself better, find ways to cope with challenges and build a happier life.
You can expect a conversation, not an interrogation, in your first session with me. We'll start by getting to know each other. I’ll ask what brought you in, what you hope to work on, and how things have been lately. You don’t need perfect answers or a clear game plan—just showing up is enough. We’ll discuss what therapy might look like for you specifically, and I’ll explain how I work—collaboratively, with curiosity and compassion. Most importantly, I want you to feel safe, heard, and respected. You set the pace. Whether you're ready to open up immediately or need a feel for the process, we’ll meet you where you are. By the end of the session, you should know whether this is a good fit—and if it is, we’ll discuss the next steps.
As a provider, my main strengths are ensuring my clients feel truly understood, respected, and safe. This creates a good space for them to do the important healing work. I bring a calm and steady presence, which is especially helpful for those dealing with trauma, identity issues, or ongoing emotional struggles. Clients often tell me they appreciate my ability to strike a balance: I listen deeply, ask thoughtful questions, and gently challenge when needed, but never push beyond what feels emotionally safe. I specialize in working with complexity, whether that’s the layered experience of being a man under pressure, living with ADHD, holding LGBTQ+ identities in unwelcoming spaces, or carrying trauma that has no easy words. I’m also highly attuned to nuance. I pay attention to what’s said, what’s not, and what’s felt beneath the surface. My clinical approach is integrative and trauma-informed, but also deeply human. I believe in humor, patience, and dignity in the therapeutic process—and in helping clients “cope” and reconnect with their sense of agency and self-worth. Ultimately, I don’t just hold space—I help you reshape it.
I work best with clients navigating identity, emotion, and healing in deeply personal ways. I specialize in men’s issues, trauma, LGBTQ+ experiences, and ADHD, often supporting those who’ve felt misunderstood, silenced, or stuck for years. Many of my male clients come in carrying quiet anger, relationship struggles, or a sense of disconnection from themselves. They’ve been taught to tough it out, and now they’re ready to explore a different way of being, one that makes space for vulnerability and growth. I also work with trauma survivors, people living in survival mode from past abuse, loss, or emotional neglect. My approach is grounded, compassionate, and focused on restoring a sense of safety and agency. For LGBTQ+ clients, I offer an affirming space to process identity, relationships, and resilience in the face of systemic or internalized oppression. You don't have to do it alone, whether it’s coming out, healing from rejection, or simply finding peace. And for those with ADHD, I help untangle years of shame and misunderstanding. Together, we build focus and emotional regulation strategies while honoring your unique rhythm and strengths.
Other specialties
I identify as
Cognitive Behavior Therapy for Suicide Prevention (CBT-SP)
I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help clients find and question negative thoughts and beliefs that cause emotional pain; we aim to create better thinking habits and develop ways to cope with challenges. Through structured sessions, we work collaboratively to develop healthier thinking habits and coping strategies. I integrate practical tools such as cognitive restructuring, behavioral activation, and exposure techniques to support lasting change and improve overall functioning.
Humanistic
I draw from humanist theory to create a supportive, empathetic, and nonjudgmental environment where clients feel safe to explore their authentic selves. I emphasize personal growth, self-awareness, and the innate potential for positive change. By fostering a strong therapeutic relationship and honoring each client's unique experience, I help them develop greater self-acceptance and align more closely with their values and goals.
Adlerian
I use Adlerian theory to help clients examine their early experiences, family relationships, and important beliefs. This allows them to better understand their current behaviors and habits. I focus on assisting clients in feeling like they belong, have a purpose, and are connected to others. I encourage them to gain insights and take meaningful steps toward personal growth. By emphasizing strengths, individual responsibility, and goal-setting, I support clients in creating more fulfilling and socially engaged lives.

I have been a patient of JP's for almost a year, navigating academic challenges, burnout, family dynamics, romantic relationships, and the transition from medical student to physician. JP gave me the tools and support to reflect on these challenges and observe my own growth throughout. What I love most is his holistic approach. He has not only prepared me to be a better doctor for my patients, but helped me develop my character and grow as a human being. I am deeply grateful.
