My name is Daniel and I am a board licensed therapist in Oakland, CA with 20 years of experience, including training and supervision of other therapists. I use Internal Family Systems and other therapies to treat major depression, anxiety, and the many effects of traumatic life experiences. Hi there, I primarily work in substance use recovery (abstinence and harm reduction) and trauma recovery. I also have specialized training in treating anxiety, depression, and sleep issues/insomnia. My treatment orientation is based in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy concepts, however the foundation of my early training was Psychodynamic. I have been trained in Cognitive Processing Therapy, Prolonged Exposure, STAIR (Skills Training in Affective and Interpersonal Regulation), and Seeking Safety for trauma treatment. When treating anxiety, I take a CBT, or exposure approach with skill-building. For depression I utilize CBT concepts, or behavioral activation with skill-building. For sleep issues, I work with the CBT for insomnia treatment model. These are just a few examples of treatment approaches I utilize. I am relational focused, which to me means finding a plan that works best for you, practicing cultural humility and not trying to fit a round peg in a square hole. I look forward to working with you.

I've been a therapist for about eight years with a keen eye for helping others find deeper meaning through their hardships, a calming presence capable of modeling self-regulation, and a reliable ear for those that need to unload their perceived stress across different life chapters. I also offer a modern, diverse openness for cultural understanding as I am a male Latino fluent in Spanish, have Asian ethnicity, and am first-generation American. I can also empathize with perceived struggles as I grew up with low SES, was greatly affected by a custody battle into my teenage years, and became the primary healthcare agent for my father-figure until his passing from cancer during my early twenties. In more recent years, I learned the differences in transitioning from the role of a stepfather to becoming a father of a newborn. Understanding one's own pain from their story is key to learning the balancing act of validating and/or differentiating how to help others process their felt pain. I offer my therapeutic services as your existential teammate who will metaphorically walk by your side along your therapeutic journey.

A little about me: I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who, come to find out, originally got into this field largely to figure myself out. If you’ve never heard that from a therapist before, it’s actually a pretty common thread among us, we often subconsciously step into healing others as a way to find healing within ourselves. About 22 years ago, I was diagnosed with Complex PTSD, and roughly 15 years ago, I received an OCD diagnosis. Having these two conditions overlap made things incredibly challenging throughout much of my life and if I’m being completely honest, navigating that balance can still have its moments today. But there’s something powerful about a wounded healer: we tend to want more for ourselves and for the people we serve than just standard, status-quo talk therapy. We dig deeper because we need real answers on a personal level, and once we find what works, we want to share it with the world.

I have over 20 years of counseling experience working with diverse individuals from young children to seniors. I specialize in treating depression, anxiety, trauma, grief, transitions, self destructive behaviors, codependency among others, so that you can overcome the blocks that keep you from living the life you deserve. I use an integrated and collaborative approach created to meet the unique needs of each individual while establishing a safe environment conducive to achieving goals, and moving forward. I believe that true change happens when people are given the support they need in order to draw upon their own strengths to realize their full potential. I am very passionate about the work I do, compassionate, and believe that with dedication and commitment, you can live the fulfilling life you know is awaiting you. A few comments former clients have said about me and our work together include; “I’ve worked with a number of therapists before, but you are the only one that I felt truly cared.” “I can't believe that after 8 years of depression and PTSD, I actually feel great after only 6 months! If you would have asked me if this were possible a couple years ago, I would have said absolutely not!” I have worked with both short-term and long-term interventions and in diverse settings. My goal is your goal and together, you can achieve what you may have thought, or think, is unachievable. It is possible to not only overcome obstacles, but thrive and live a happy life.

Understand, Reframe, and Navigate Human Behavior. Human behavior is rarely random. The way we communicate, react, withdraw, persuade, accommodate, or push back usually serves a purpose, even when the pattern is creating problems in our lives. I work with people navigating complicated relationship dynamics, particularly when boundaries, persuasion, control, or manipulation have become part of the equation. Sometimes that means recognizing how someone else’s behavior is influencing you. Other times, it means taking an honest look at patterns in your own behavior and understanding what keeps them going. You may have noticed that you’ve already considered change. Maybe you understand what you should do but find yourself responding the same way anyway. Maybe you keep giving in, questioning yourself, or getting pulled into interactions that leave you wondering what just happened. Therapy with me is about looking beneath the behavior rather than reducing it to a label. We’ll examine what drives the pattern, what it accomplishes, and how you can respond more deliberately. Hello! My name is Dana Ferry, Licensed Marriage Family Therapist. I have found for myself an incredible benefit in scientifically proven healing therapies such as meditation and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) to treat trauma. My approach to therapy integrates therapeutic options to meet the client where they are. This is why I went back to school, so I could study for myself the science of healing and help others heal as well. I've been an EMDRIA certified EMDR therapist since 2023.

Many of the clients I work with are carrying a lot. They may look like they're functioning on the outside—working, parenting, caregiving, and showing up for others—while internally feeling overwhelmed, emotionally exhausted, disconnected from themselves, or stuck in patterns that no longer serve them. I'm a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) based in California with 10 years of experience supporting individuals through life's challenges and transitions. I work primarily with adults navigating relationship stress, communication difficulties, grief in its many forms, burnout, identity development, and the emotional weight of trying to "hold it all together." Many of my clients are asking themselves questions like: Who am I outside of survival mode? How do I show up as my best self? How do I communicate my needs more clearly and create healthier relationships? My goal is to provide a supportive space where clients can better understand themselves, build practical tools for navigating life's challenges, and create meaningful, sustainable changes that align with the person they want to be.

From working in East LA with 0-5 population to working with adults in the military and kids/teens in San Diego, I have had the privilege of walking alongside so many individuals and families in every facet of life. Obtaining my Bachelor's Degree in the Midwest, studying in a foreign country, and ultimately earning my Master's in California, I embrace adaptability and have gained valuable perspectives gained through varied experiences in various locations. I specialize in utilizing an attachment-based, trauma-informed, and neuroscience lens; and I embrace every individual's story. After working with me, people tend to walk away with enhanced self-understanding, improved attunement to themselves or others, and increased self-compassion. I utilize the most up-to-date methods such as Polyvagal Theory and utilize methods that are not a quick fix, rather are instrumental in providing long-term results with long-term benefits.

The specialty filter is optional. You don’t need to check any boxes to see a provider. However, fit is very important when selecting an online therapist. If you have knowledge or experience to recognize what specialties you may need.

Finding a provider with a similar life experience can be beneficial because it can be easier to establish rapport and potentially be understood quicker and clearer.

Your first therapy session is for you and your therapist to meet each other and to ask any questions that you have about the counseling process. This is where you can expect your therapist to do the same as they will ask questions to gain insight into your specific situation. In this first session the therapist is doing their part to gather as much information so they can better assess if they are able to meet your therapeutic needs. Depending upon your provider's specialty, you may also discuss the methods the therapist will use. For additional information on therapy methods, please visit the Grow Therapy Help Center. Some people feel nervous before their first appointment, and that is totally normal! Coming prepared with a list of questions for your therapist may help. Remember, you're taking a brave step by seeking therapy, and it is okay to be nervous as you try something new.
