Tara Cummiskey
Welcome! I’m so glad you’re here. Whatever has brought you to therapy, you don’t have to navigate it alone. I believe that meaningful healing begins with connection - with others and with ourselves. In a world that often asks us to do more, be more, and hold everything together, it can be difficult to slow down and listen to what we truly need.
You deserve a life bigger than your fears.
As a therapist, I strive to create a warm, compassionate, and nonjudgmental space where you can feel understood, explore your experiences, and reconnect with your authentic self. I specialize in working with women navigating OCD and phobias. My approach is collaborative and individualized, honoring your unique story, strengths, and pace as we work toward a life that feels more meaningful, fulfilling, and aligned with who you are.
First session
As your therapist, I am committed to creating an inclusive space where you are welcome exactly as you are. I do this with compassion and empathy by listening deeply to what is most important to you. Through therapy, I am dedicated to providing a space where you are met with warmth, authenticity, and acceptance. I create an environment where you will feel truly seen and heard.
Strengths
I bring warmth, empathy, curiosity, and a genuine passion for empowering women to live more authentic lives. I strive to balance compassion with meaningful, evidence-based work that helps clients move toward the things that matter most to them. With specialized experience in OCD treatment, I understand how exhausting it can be to feel caught in cycles of doubt, fear, and overthinking. My approach is collaborative and unhurried, allowing us to move at a pace that feels intentional and supportive while building the confidence to face challenges, tolerate uncertainty, and create lasting change.
Ideal clients
I specialize in treating adult women and individuals of all genders who connect with a woman-centered therapeutic approach. My ideal clients are ready to better understand themselves, break free from unhelpful patterns, and build a life that feels more aligned with their values. If you're feeling overwhelmed, caught in cycles of overthinking, or finding it difficult to offer yourself the same compassion you extend to others, therapy can provide a safe and supportive space help shift patterns that no longer serve you.
Treatment methods
Exposure Response Prevention (ERP)
I use Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), the recommended treatment modality for OCD and phobias, to help clients face feared thoughts, feelings, sensations, or situations, while learning to resist compulsions and avoidance. Treatment is at your pace, taking an unhurried, intentional approach that allows you to build confidence and skills without feeling rushed or pushed beyond what we have collaboratively planned. EMDR
I use EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) therapy to help clients process difficult experiences, heal from trauma, and reduce the emotional intensity associated with distressing memories. EMDR can also help address underlying beliefs, fears, and patterns that contribute to anxiety and emotional distress. My goal is to help clients feel more grounded, develop a greater sense of safety within themselves, and move forward without feeling as weighed down by past experiences. I tailor EMDR to each client's individual needs, prioritizing safety, collaboration, and readiness throughout the process.
