Greetings! I am an LCSW based in the state of North Carolina. I hold a Bachelor degree in Corporate Communications from The Pennsylvania State University and a Master of Social work from University of Pittsburgh. I am proud to offer culturally competent therapy in a safe space to explore support in trauma care, racial trauma/violence, race-based stress, anxiety, depression, and emotional dysregulation.
My first approach is meeting people where they are and making them as comfortable as possible. The first session is called an initial session and will be an opportunity for me to understand your situation and determine whether our relationship is a good fit. We will work on setting goals for therapy and discussing how we can achieve them.
Having an accomplished career of over 10 years of experience in community social services including community organizing, program management and community mental health, I have learned the power or relational intelligence. My sole aim is to treat people with respect and dignity as we all live this human experience together.
This modality allows you to look at your thoughts and actions. CBT can assist you in unlearning negative thoughts and behaviors and learning to adopt healthier thinking patterns and habits.
Psychoeducation refers to the process of providing education and information to those seeking or receiving mental health services, such as people diagnosed with mental health conditions (or life-threatening/terminal illnesses) and their family members. In my practice, I teach about the diagnosis as to build a link to destigmatizing mental health needs.
Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) is a type of talk therapy (psychotherapy). It is based on cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), but it’s specially adapted for people who experience emotions very intensely. I offer a modified version of DBT that focuses on learning to use mindfulness, engaging in interpersonal effectiveness, learning to manage and tolerating stress while regulating emotions.
Culturally sensitive therapy is an approach to psychotherapy that emphasizes the therapist's understanding of a client’s background and belief system as it relates to their race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender, or other important elements that make up someone’s culture and/or identity. I hold Extensive experience working with diverse populations to achieve empowerment through community and coalition building. Demonstrable sensitivity and openness to those living with mental health, substance use, and chronic illness; strategically creating person-centered plans to improve the quality of life of those living in marginalized communities.
